DOBERMANNS
Thank you for your entries of Dobermanns in good hard condition, sporting decisions, good atmosphere and sunshine!
I found a varied entry in terms of style and the days of a line-up being all the same ‘type’ has largely gone, but each dog had merits to commend them. Heads are generally of good length with correct clean back skulls. There were a couple of minor dentition faults, and only a couple of rounded skulls, but it was rare to find parallel head planes. Thin thighs are creeping in, and very few dogs had the correct upper arm – either in length or placement, causing the dog to come wide towards or elbowing out. Breed standards state either ‘faults’ or ‘highly undesirable’ faults. Straight upper arms are one thing, but our standard clearly reads “short upper arm relative to shoulder blade highly undesirable.” This is an ugly faults so please attend to it in your breeding as it is the root of most movement problems. I was very pleased with my main winners, and the extremely difficult task of splitting three superb females in the challenge, gave me a particular headache. Nice problem to have. Well done all.

JD 1 Hickling’s - Evalesco Ego Boost. A very smart, square and upstanding dog with quality head. Dark well-shaped eye and correct ratios of foreface to back-skull with flat cheeks. Clean neck, smooth over shoulder and well returned upper arm to tight elbows, well-let down to brisket and obviously ribs yet to fill a bit. Dark correctly placed markings. Thigh could be wider but although mature in body, he is still young. Strong short pasterns and hocks with tight feet. Excellent topline well-held on the move which was harmonious, balanced and true with clean footfall. A good honest dog.
2 Brough & Brannan’s Supeta's Miami Heat for Aniiraz - This dog had the expression I want; pure Dobermann - daunting and challenging with really dark mischief in his eyes – I just love it! All male, he has excellent muzzle depth, length and breadth with correct ratios of skull and foreface. Strong neck, square body, well-let down to brisket with good underline. Very good round bone, strong short pasterns and hocks. Correctly placed dark markings. Holds himself tightly on the move so his back his not level although on a few relaxed paces he looked very good. He moved out well in partnership with his handler with very good reach, drive and balance and correct footfall.
Y 1 Blackburn & Tait’s - Knecht Little Richard JW Compact, nearly 2, this is a powerhouse of a young stallion carrying the essence of the breed. Head is strong with very dark almond shaped eye and confident challenging expression. Loose on the lips, but is tidy under muscular neck. Shoulder is upright but he has the correct equal length of upper arm. Body shape is excellent both on top and underline, with clean topline and tailset, good ribbing to firm loin and very dark well-placed markings. Well off for bone, short strong hocks and pasterns. This dog really came into his own on the move full of vigour but with clean tracking out and back covering the ground with ease. He has excellent thigh width which he used to power from behind and his reach, drive and balance was excellent. He won the RCC with much to admire and his great attitude.
2 Bishop’s Korifey Heartbreak to Sacaria this standard sized young brown is so clean throughout. A little wide in backskull, but head is very good in all other aspects with a beautiful eye and expression, good underjaw and clean lips, throat, neck and shoulders with correct length of upper arm. Topline is smooth, correct tailset with plenty behind the tail and a good width of thigh. Footfall perfect in all aspects and balanced on the move which is harmonious and clean. Although his angulation is better he gave away to the slightly older and more developed dog, and I would like to see more attitude and oomph from him, but certainly a future prospect with much to admire about him.
GD - Kent & Sutton Korifey Reckless JW Square and standard with balanced angles front and rear. Correct head ratios with nearly parallel planes, eye is very dark, a little round which gives a softer expression, but well filled under to good muzzle depth and width and good underjaw. Dry neck and throat onto clean shoulders and smooth topline and correct tailset. Moderate angulation front and rear. Medium bone, dark well-placed markings, short strong hocks and pasterns. This dog’s advantage is his balanced reach and drive with accurate footfall. Nothing overdone about him and another to watch when he matures.
ND– Evans’ Amazon Showtime. Compact, dark masculine dog with balanced angles and a good outline. Very dark eye, slightly deep stop, parallel planes and ok lips. Neck is strong and clean, good front assembly with well sprung ribs, well let down to brisket and good underline. Strongly bodied with correct moderate angulation throughout, well-boned, firm strong pasterns and hocks with tight feet. Correctly placed dark markings, short firm back held very well on the move which was direct, with accurate footfall and plenty of rotary action. A very sound dog to watch for the future.
LD – 1 Fletcher’s Sacaria Whisper of Hope. This dark brown dog was a standout today. Head is clean, with harmonious dimensions. Very pleasing muzzle depth, length and breadth, and balanced to a well-defined back skull with no heavy cheeks. Nearly parallel planes, correct medium stop giving a perfect shape to his dark almond eye with a confident expression. Well filled underneath, clean lips, dry throat and neck onto very good shoulders. Upper arm could be better returned but is importantly of equal length to shoulder. Super shape on clean topline and underline, and such a good width of thigh with good turn of stifle onto strong straight hocks. Superb on the move; true out and back – balanced, free ground covering workmanlike stride which was bang on for accuracy and held his topline firm. He was skilfully handled without fuss, and I was delighted to award him what I understand is his first CC.
2 Brown’s Jojavik Shaken Not Stirred JW. Really smart male who is very much the style I admire. Quality head with medium stop giving correct shape to his very dark and expressive almond eye. Correct ratio of foreface to skull which was slightly wide, and really good width and depth of muzzle. Clean throat and dry neck, shoulders were good and elbows well tucked in and under his withers. Topline and underline compliment each other for an impressive shape with balanced angles front and rear. Well off for bone, short pasterns and hocks. His movement was strong and vigorous but he comes on a bit wide and his mind was elsewhere today which was disappointing for his handler and me. He has many virtues to commend him and I imagine he will have much success. Sorry that the win today was not his.
3 Verrall’s Grafmax Oberon at Camperdown JW
OD (4) 1 Robinson Ch/int/lux/bel/nl Ch Korifey Ivan ShCEx Bh 5 yr square masculine dog in his prime. Good head with all proportions correct, very good width, depth and breadth of muzzle. Medium stop giving correct shape to dark well-shaped eye, well-filled under and clean cheeks. Clean muscular neck and smooth over shoulders although they could be better set, cleanest topline and tailset, short in loin. Well boned, dark rust correctly placed markings. Moved with balance, good reach and rotary drive and perfect footfall out and back keeping elbows well in on the move and back firm. A very smart dog, certainly fit for purpose.
2 Hunt & Flitcroft Tuwos Mr Majestik Vonsallate Very well-made dog of overall excellent good proportions. Strong head balanced correctly on foreface to skull with particularly good breadth, depth and length of muzzle. Correct stop, good eye colour; light rim detracted from the ideal expression. Good ear set, throat clean and neck long and strong. Balanced angles front and rear with legs well set under withers, and tight elbow to deep body with well sprung ribs. Short ribbing and loin. Strong pasterns and hocks, very balanced on the move and reach is good although would prefer more drive. Topline held firm and perfect footfall out away and coming towards.
3 Robertson’s Cockneyoka Dire Straits

MPB 1 Nicol 185 - Supeta's Black Rose at Evnjays. Super square dark very good coat. Pleasing wedge head with correct proportions, medium stop and dark well-shaped eye. Clean neck onto good front, excellent topline with clean croup and tailset. Short ribbing and loin and good underline. Dark correct markings, tight feet. Moved very well – balanced and true with correct footfall. Very promising.
2 Witteveen’s Grafmax Rebel Rebel Classic and clean head with correct proportions, medium stop and dark well-shaped eye. Head planes yet to settle, clean cheeks, beautiful clean neck and correct forehand. Smooth shoulders, good topline and tailset. Footfall accurate on the move but she was distracted and didn’t keep a straight line to be assessed properly. Very nice puppy – she’ll do well.
3 Nixon’s Supetas Still in Luv with You
PB– 1 Blackburn & Tait Knecht Mirelle Notes start with classy, elegant brown, who got me at first glance of her very confident gaze and classic head. Love an arrogant expression! Head is beautifully proportioned, medium stop, dark very well shaped eye, well filled under to flat cheeks, clean throat, strong neck and lovely front with smooth shoulders, equal length of upper arm to shoulder, and elbows well tucked under. Medium bone, strong pasterns and hocks, and tight feet. Well balanced on the move with super perfect footfall. Very promising. BPIB
2. Brodie’s Lamar Angel Wings. Beautiful long clean head with classic proportions and excellent shaped dark eye. Clean all over with lean neck, good shoulders and well-let down to brisket. Tidy top and underline. She was so nervous today it wasn’t possible to fully assess her standing or on the move. I hope she finds her confidence as she is a smart looking pup.
JB 1 Daniels’ Supeta’s Miami Kiss for Mattacane. Notes say ‘SQUARE!’ – they don’t come much more compact than this. Very strong head with particularly strong muzzle. Correct stop giving good shape to darkest well-shaped eyes with some naughty attitude which I love! Clean cheeks, beautifully shaped good strong, lean, muscular neck. Shoulders are good, upper arm is straight but is the correct length to shoulder. Deep brisket. Ribbing and loin are both very short, good topline, clean tailset and balanced angulation front and rear. Good short pasterns and hocks. Moved so true and very clean out and back, with excellent rotary drive and balance.
2 Burnham Jodaseen All of My Heart. Classic elegant brown with a tidy very clean and well-proportioned head. Head planes nearly parallel, correct stop and well-shaped dark eye. Clean cheeks. Good depth and length of muzzle and pleasingly tight lipline. Throat and neck very clean and beautifully shaped. Slightly straight in front in both shoulder and upper arm which was of equal length to shoulder. Clean topline on muscular and well-shaped body. Movement was balanced front to rear with clean footfall. Didn’t show the passion of no1 today.
YB 1 Bradbury & Sanderson Jodaseen Steel City Blues. This square, substantial and elegant black has great presence. Arrogant and confident expression from very well-shaped dark eye. Nearly parallel planes with excellent head proportions. Lip could be cleaner, throat is very clean, lean and muscular. Well let down to brisket, upper arm is straight but of equal length to shoulder. She has a compact body with perfect underline to topline shape. Well-boned onto strong pasterns and hocks. Loved her on the move where she covered the ground with a powerful and accurate stride. Came up against some very strong older females today but could take top honours in the future.
2 Price’s Kenzduo Kalmia Well-proportioned head on this dark female who has a very good overall shape. Darkest eyes of correct shape, well filled under, and clean lips and cheeks. Strong lean neck and particularly good front; clean shoulder, nearly equal length of upper arm, with elbows well set under withers. Tidy underline and topline with good tailset. Moved out well and true.
GB 1 Price’s Kenzduo Kalmia
PGB 1 Wall’s Perardua Amaris. As she came in the ring I thought wow, that’s going to be very hard to beat! Overall she has everything in the right place. The most confident, and challenging expression from wicked dark eyes that made my skin prickle! That’s what I want to see! Head is harmonious and correctly wedged from all aspects. Muzzle is deep but with clean lips. Well filled under to flat cheeks and strong muscular neck. Well placed forehand with clean shoulders, really smart matching underline and topline and very compact. Excellent muscular thighs which she used to really power around the ring with superb reach and drive, whilst keeping her topline steady as a rock. Her movement was balanced, powerful and accurate, with no deviation on footfall. Really exciting to watch and shown to perfection, she was pushed very hard in the challenge by two other superb females, but today she couldn’t be denied the top spot of the CC and BOB.
