Italian Spinoni WKC 17th August 2024

Thank you to the WKC for their invite and to the exhibitors for their entries & sportsmanship. Today I found the breed in better shape than when I last judged. I was presented with a few dilemmas of keeping to type over good construction and movement. Some very steep fronts with short upper arm and loaded shoulders. Close behind, lacking drive and some not sound. Too many loose eye rims these totally spoil the human expression. Coat and presentation were greatly improved. I thoroughly enjoyed my day, (except for being inside and the horrendous drive up) and was very happy with my main winners.

1st Sh Ch Larlila Morello (Blythe) 8 1/2 year old b/r, worthy of his title. Good head, dark eye and a grouchy expression , touch short in fore face, muscular neck, slight divided dewlap, thick skin, harsh coat. Excellent bone and feet, minimal tuck up. RCC

1st Kubear Mazzanti of Connomar (Woodward) o/r 10mth, lean divergent skull, pronounced occiput. Ear set a little low. Thick skin and good coat. Good bone and feet. Top end of puppy and looking a bit gangly and awkward.

1st Connomar Cipirello of Roughmoor (Cook) b/r medium size dog of old fashioned breed type, lean divergent skull, kind expression from well placed ochre eyes, correct ear set and length. Thick skin, good coat texture and colour. A little straight in stifle at the moment. Enough bone for age. Moved out steadily with correct tail carriage.

2nd Rubino Spinone del Mucrone With Riccini (Whittingham & Bexon) w/o very well presented and shown. Divergent head planes, lean skull, not the eye or expression of 1, thickish skin, harsh coat, correct top line standing & moving, deep chest. Moved well in profile a little close behind. Tail set on low.

3rd Fiducia Cho Oyu At Miavita (Giles)

PGD 4 (0) A difficult class to judge.

1st Lucoru Blow a Fuse at Cloudnine (Fordham) well presented o/r lean divergent skull, ochre eyes with close fitting rims with a kind expression. Harsh coat. A little overdone in rear angulation and a touch long in loin, moved the best in this class with correct tail carriage.

2nd Inostricani on a Mission. w/o I preferred the type of this lovely young medium sized dog but he did not move well today and flew his tail. Divergent planes, kind earnest expression from well set ochre eyes, good ear set and length, thick skin and harsh coat, well bodied. Good bone and feet.

3rd Diggmere Mary’s Chi Bloom (McGregor)

1st Diggmere Winwood Ranger (Cayford & Hanscombe) b/r well presented workmanlike dog in hard condition. Lean skull, kind expression from well set deep ochre eyes, close fitting rims, strong neck, slight divided dewlap, correct angulations, pronounced sternum, fits the square, thick skin, harsh coat, good bone and feet. Moved with drive and correct tail carriage.CC

2nd Beau (It imp) (Davies & Luff)w/o divergent head planes, but short in fore face and strong in skull. Thick skin, coat ok. Poor angulations front and rear, well bodied, good bone and feet, correct tail set and carriage.

1st Elgin Losing My Marbles Am Cartrefyspin (Davies & Davies) White, lovely old breed type, divergent planes , lean skull, loose eye rim adversely affecting expression . Strong neck, correct angulations front and rear, correct topline standing and moving. Thick skin, shorter but harsh coat. Moved out very typically and well. How lovely to see a pure white in the ring again. BV

2nd Elgin Lost My Marbles (Steere) b/r very similar remarks to her litter sister above, 1 scored in skull and better overall balance to body. Maturity suits these 2 bitches and looking the best I’ve ever seen them.

Gianna Dei Ruderi Montforte Del Montecani (Imp Den) w/o 6mth displaying such a sweet temperament and every time I caught sight of her I just smiled. Lean skull, pronounced occiput, ochre eyes with a beautiful almost human expression. Thickish skin, coat coming, correct top line. Moved out very well for one so young, with confidence and correct tail carriage. I hope she grows into her very happy long tail. BP

1st Connomar Ramacca With Bardantop (Guest) b/r lean roof shaped divergent skull, ochre eyes, close fitting rims, soft expression, ears of correct length. Good coat and thick skin. Fits the square. Good bone and feet. Both 1st & 2nd very nice type Spinoni with tick tock tail carriage.

2nd Connomar Sciacca (Woodward) b/r litter sister to 1st and looking just as Italian for breed type, very similar remarks as above, slightly longer in body. Both need to strengthen in the rear on the move but I will follow their futures with interest.

3rd Fiducia Chamlang (McGregor)

1st Lajatico Bobini (Wain) b/r very promising bitch of good breed type. Lean roof shaped skull, ochre eyes with a kind expression. Exc thick skin and harsh coat, correct topline and minimal tuck up. Fits the square. Good bone and feet. Moved out very well from all angles. Just a touch flighty but as her ring confidence comes she should have a bright future.

2nd Inostricani Sky’s The Limit At Milisimo w/o Lean, divergent, roof shaped skull ochre eyes with the sweetest expression, strong neck into well angulated shoulders, correct topline and croup. Would prefer more bone and better feet. Moved out well. On entering the ring I thought this pretty feminine eye catching bitch would be my winner but workmanlike won out today.

3rd Scodinzolare Photoulla (Mortimer)

1st Annilan temptress Del Michiamo JW (Anderson &Mayne) w/o medium sized feminine bitch. Lean, divergent roof shaped skull, pronounced occiput, correct ear set and length, darkish ochre eyes, her expression is kind but could be softer but this can still come with maturity. Keeps her excellent outline both standing and moving and is so easy on the eye, thick skin, fairly harsh coat, correct croup, moved out with purpose and drive, CC & BOB

2nd Diggmere Gignese (McGregor) b/r lean roof shaped skull, deep ochre eyes with a kind expression. Short strong neck, thick skin and harsh coat, correct topline and croup. Good bone and feet. Moved out straight and true but lacked drive.

3rd Diggmere Cortona Sofia Del Riccini

1st Swiss Sh Ch Inostricani Amore (Light) b/r lean roof shaped skull, pronounced occiput, best expression of the day from dark ochre perfectly placed eyes with close fitting rims, ears of correct length and set on level with eye. Square in outline, strong neck, thick skin, harsh coat. Good bone, feet ok, exc width to thigh. Moved out very well to take this class. RCC

2nd Amberellie Rosanna (Kruglow) w/o well presented and handled, lean roofed shaped skull, dark ochre eyes, slightly short in fore face, strong neck, thickish skin, harsh coat. Good bone and feet for size. Would prefer a touch more leg length. Moved straight and true from all angles holding her topline but another that lacked drive and purpose, tail carriage correct.
