Three Counties Agricultural Society

Breed: Portuguese Podengo + Stakes Beginners Yearling Open Hounds Pastoral

Three Counties Championship show held at Malvern 6th June 2024.

I was looking forward to this appointment, the welcome is always warm from such a small committee and helpers. Preparing for our British weather can be unpredictable and always a challenge. The showground is well set out both indoors and outdoors, with a glorious day, judging took place outside in big rings. My thanks to all exhibitors who entered, your most treasured companions.

Pharaoh Hound: V.1. Davies – Threemoons Shooting Star – This young lady at 14yrs was in super body condition for all years. Pleasing feminine head, with good length of neck, ample depth of chest, muscular loin. She moved out at a steady pace. BB. BoB. BV.

Portuguese Podengo: PD 1. Plushcourt Good Luck (Ms M Pinder) – a promising youngster just starting his show career. Appealing masculine head and ample breadth to the skull, moderate definition to stop, and clean expressive eyes. Good length-to-height ratios. High set medium length tail curved over back. Firm topline and nicely sprung ribs. The future is bright for this young man. BP 2. Plushcourt Good Lord (Mrs B A Judge) – Litter brother to 1 and at a slightly different growing phase. Pleasing masculine head with high-set ears that were thin and large. Muscular neck of correct length, topline clean, and muscular loin. Suitably sprung ribs with ample forechest. JrD. 1. Plushcourt Gospel Truth (Mrs B A Judge) – This boy had a lovely soft alert expression which won me over. Large, triangular, mobile ears thin to the touch well-muscled neck, and firm topline. Strong round feet with well-arched toes. His coat was in good condition and of correct texture. On the move, he was light of foot and sound. RBD OD. 1 Plushcourt Bear Witness (Mrs. B A Judge) – Very breed typical this 2.5yr. Alert and active with mobile ears he didn’t miss anything, well-shaped wedge head, and ample stop. Good length of neck into muscular shoulders, depth of fore chest, and neatly sprung ribs. Slight rise over loin and clean underline. He moved the best of the day. BD, BoB. Vet D 1. Plushcourt Hallmark (Mrs B A Judge) – This 8yr smooth has a dense tight coat. He had tall erect ears thin to the touch correct wedge-shaped head with his muzzle slightly shorter than his skull, a firm topline his tail could be a little higher set. BV. PB. 3 litter sisters in this class 1. Belfalas Sea Breezes (Mr N & Mrs D Crockford) – at 6 months these girls have plenty of time to build confidence. This girl is the smallest of the three but time is still early. Pleasing feminine head with an alert expression head skull had a slight arch, high set, fine ears which where taller than broad expressive eyes good length of muscular neck and enough chest at this point in her show career. Her ribs were nicely sprung for age and reached well back. She moved the best of the 3 at this time. PB. 2. Belfalas Sea Breezes (Mr N & Mrs D Crockford) – Slightly taller than winner of class, good dense smooth coat, nicely ribbed back she grew in confidence as time went on. I’m sure all three will change places often as they attend more shows, getting used to other people. 3. Belfalas Ladytron (Mr N & Mrs D Crockford) JrB: 1. Stormwitch Magic Melody (Mrs D Curtis) – still only young with good potential, this rough coated girl had ample furnishings and the silhouette gave an attractive profile on the move. Strength in bone and substance from her head to the tip of her tail that had the requisite white tip. 2. Plushcourt Pearl (Mrs B A Judge) Smooth of similar age although slightly longer. Feminine head and expression, nice length of neck into muscular shoulders, firm topline with slight rise over loin, clean underline and enough hind angulation. Not the movement of one. PGB. 1. Plushcourt Gloriana at Belfalas (Mr N & Mrs D Crockford) – Smooth, very appealing 3yr super feminine with her wedge-shaped head and high set ears. Ample length of muscular neck into shoulders. Enough chest and spring of ribs which reached well back to her muscular loin well angulated hind. On the move in profile, she was light on her feet. I considered her in the challenge. 2. Plushcourt Good Golly (Mrs B A Judge) – Rough coated who was slightly finer in bone. Appealing feminine expression from well coloured eyes. Nicely laid shoulders with ample depth of chest, her topline was firm and her loin was muscular. 3. Plushcourt Good Gracious (Mrs B A Judge) OB. 1. Plushcourt Guessing (Mrs B A Judge) – Well please to see this girl in super rough coat that had correct texture. Her type was typical of breed with a correct head shape and colour of eye, her front assembly was well made and matched her rear angulation on the move she took time to show off and carry her tail which won her BB BoB 2. Plushcourt Gizelle (Mrs B A Judge) – Smooth – this mature girl was balanced and well proportioned slightly finer in bone than winner, but made up for it with her thick dense smooth coat I was nit picking for RBB.
