Sussex Spaniels

I had been looking forward to this appointment for a long time and was not disappointed. I thoroughly enjoyed my day with this delightful breed. Temperaments were first class, sometimes over friendly and exhibits were well presented in good condition.

Veteran (2)

What a great start to the day with two worthy Champions, both great adverts for the longevity of the breed.

1 Hipgrave’s Sh Ch Eald Village Gossip

At 9 years old, has a lovely head with plenty of shape and typical expression. Strong in neck with well laid shoulders and well boned front legs. Well ribbed with good length and depth to her chest. She has strong quarters and a correct tail set which she held well on the move. Covered the ring well. Best Veteran.

2 Alderson’s Sh Ch Meggamooch Tango

Another of high calibre. Now 8 years and carrying her age well. She has a correctly proportioned head with good ear placement. Well made through with good length of body and well-turned stifles. Just preferred the winner on the move today.

Puppy Dog (1)

1 Alderson’s Stormacre Tiny Dancer with Meggamooch

At 7 months is so full of fun, just as a Sussex should be! Good head for his age with more to come as he matures. Well shaped eyes and good ear placement. Correct bite. Strong neck of good length leads to a well balanced body. Well turned stifles and correct tail set. He moved well in profile. Best Puppy, should have a bright future once he settles.

Junior Dog (3)

1 Clarke’s Florry's Boy Big Phil

Did not make my job easy as he was full of vigour here. Well constructed with pleasing head, mischievous expression with tight eyes and a good ear placement. Good length of body for his age with firm couplings giving a correct top line. In good coat and correct colour. He moved the best in this class. Went on to win SB class where he was more settled.

2 Penneman and Wakefield’s Norriss Northern Detective

Well-developed head with plenty of work, correct ear placement. Strong neck and well-constructed in front. Plenty of length of body. Moved freely.

3 Harvey’s Uccello De La Baronnie De Curvalle Malbecmogs

Post Graduate Dog (3)

1 Hipgrave’s Lord of The Glittering Caves at Ternspringer RCC

Well balanced and approaching two has plenty of quality. He should continue to improve as he matures. Super head with plenty of shape and good eyes with well-set ears. He is straight and well boned in front. Strong neck leads to correctly sloping shoulders. Good length of rib and firm in top line. He is strong over his quarters with a good turn of stifle and no exaggeration. He moved well carrying his tail correctly. Went well in the challenge to win the RCC.

2 Hawkins’ Harasteorra Betelgeuse

Taller than the winner with plenty to like here. Balanced in head with straight front and firm level top line. He too has well angulated quarters and a good set on of tail. He moved well showing a happy disposition. Just preferred the head of the winner today.

3 Harvey’s Crumbledor Quirinus Quirel

Limit Dog (3)

1 Matthews’ Foxhampton Fits The Bill

Well-constructed boy looking well today. Lovely head with that typical Sussex expression. Well-shaped eyes and low set ears. Strong neck leads to well angulated shoulders, elbows nicely tucked in. Well-developed chest with good length of rib. Strong over his quarters. He moved tidily with good tail action.

2 Moon’s Deanway Proper Charlie

Another with a well-balanced head, good eye colour and low set ears. Lovely strong neck and well developed ribs with good depth through. Good rear angulation. He was presented in good muscular condition. Just preferred the top line of the winner today

3 Harvey’s Special Vero Big Ben

Open Dog (5)

A cracking class. A pleasure to judge.

1 Graham’s Sh Ch Eald Dances with Wolves among Nyliram

Well known worthy Champion, now 6 years old and still looking the part. Well shaped head with good stop and clean eyes. Low set ears. Strong neck of good length leads to nicely sloping shoulders. Good depth to his chest and firm over his top line. He has strong quarters of good width with developed second thigh and correct angulation. He was presented well in good coat of correct colour and moved to advantage. Could not be denied the CC and later BoB

2 Beecham’s Crumbledor Albus Dumbledor at Rydonmist

At 4 is looking well. Correctly balanced head with defined stop and good length of muzzle. Strong in neck. He has correct bone and is well ribbed with good length giving a balanced outline. Strong over the quarters with correct angulation and a good tail set. He was in good body and moved well. Close to top honours.

3 Mercer and Thomas’ Sh Ch Amur Iz Vally Wins at Stormacre

Special Beginners (2,1abs)

1 Florry's Boy Big Phil (see Junior Dog)

Junior Bitch (2)

1 Edge’s Sovaroma Bee Wyched by Tawnyka

Feminine through but with enough substance. She has a lovely head with good expression and low set ears. Front needs to tighten but this should come with age. Good depth and width of chest. Well angulated quarters with hocks nicely let down. In good body and correct colour, she moved steadily but truly.

2 Wakefield’s Una Des Terres De Beaulieu avec Norriss

Only 13 months. Pleasing in head with low set ears, straight in front with nicely tucked in elbows. Plenty of body length. She has well-turned stifles. Darker in colour than the winner and was not settled on the move.

Post Graduate Bitch (1)

1 Harvey’s Special Vero Buenos Dias

My favourite of this exhibitor’s dogs today. Lovely head with defined stop, kind eyes and good length of muzzle. Decent length of neck with sloping shoulders and elbows nicely tucked in. Well-proportioned body showing depth of back ribs. She moved well here.

Limit Bitch (1)

1 Beecham’s Meggamooch Xanadu at Rydonmist

What a lovely happy girl. Feminine through but still having enough substance. Balanced head with good stop and low set ears. Straight in front. Well ribbed with good width and depth to her chest. She has good width to her quarters and well developed second thigh. Moving soundly and showing herself to advantage. My RCC winner.

Open Bitch (3)

1 Mowbray’s Sh Ch Gainsmill Lilly Luna Potter at Crumbledor BCC

Worthy Champion looking the part today. At 5 is at her best. Correct in head with good stop, soft expression and low set ears. Strong in neck and sloping shoulders lead to well boned straight front legs. Well-developed body with good depth and width. She has got good width over her quarters. Hocks are nicely let down. She moved out well carrying her tail correctly. A well-deserved CC winner today. A pleasure to judge.

2 Mercer and Thomas’ Stormacre She Believes in Me

Larger type but still well balanced and nicely put together. Well shaped head with kind expression, strong neck of good length leads to straight well boned front. Well ribbed with good body length. She moved soundly holding her top line and carrying her tail well.
