Richmond Dog Show Society

Breed: Lagotto Romagnolo

Judge: Ian Sladden (CANEMAMANS)

Date: 07th September 2024

A huge thank you to the committee of Richmond for inviting me to judge Bracco Italiano & Lagotto Romagnolo. As always a super welcome and fantastic hospitality from the society. A huge thank you to my fabulous stewards who kept things moving, swiftly and efficiently. When I arrived I expected the showground to be a mess as I had seen photos from the previous day and the heavy rain, but the effect was minimal and everyone got on with the day. A little wet and a little muddy but nothing of concern. The ground was a bit soft and uneven due to the heavy rain. Thank you to the exhibitors that entered under me and accepted my decisions sportingly, I did have some very difficult decisions to make.

Lagotto Romagnolo

Veteran (D/B) (3/0)

1. Monk’s Mizani Diorbe Of Vienna 7yrs (B) Res Best Bitch, Best Veteran  Presents a super profile that is square. On the smaller side of the standard. Topline correct falling slightly from the withers to croup. Head fairly broad and of the correct proportions. Muzzle strong with good depth. Good eye, ears set on level with eye. Short neck, well muscled. Shoulders well laid back. Well-muscled thighs. Coat nicely curled and even. Moved out well with good drive which won her the class.

2. Tollerfields Gaesten Top Tinker 7yrs (D) Much more substantial all through than 1 but still correct. Slightly longer in body. Head of correct proportions and relatively broad. Neck short and muscular, good eye and ears set on well. Shoulder set well back and topline correct. Would like a bit more angulation in the rear. Moved out well but couldn’t match drive of 1.

3. Grantham’s Mizani Dorocco Raffaele

Puppy Dog (1/1)

Junior Dog (2/0)

1. Whitworth’s Mad Max Madiba Of Freworth (imp ita) 13mth (D)  Won this class on movement. Presents an almost square profile. Head is broad of correct proportions. Good straight front and stood on tight feet. Shoulders well placed. Nice bend of stifle. Topline ok. Super coat. Moved out well free and accurate with a good amount of drive from the rear.

2. James’ Clamerkin Brown Onyx 13mth (D)  A much heavier dog. Head of correct proportions and broad. Neck short and muscled. Shoulders well laid back and good topline. Coat could be a little better a little soft and would like more evenness. Slightly longer than tall. Moved out well in profile a little messy going away.

Post Graduate Dog (3/1)

1. Tollerfields Articbreeze Now Or Never 19mth (D)  Presents a nice square profile, super head, broad and with the correct proportions. Good eye and ears well set. Neck is short, well muscled into well laid-back shoulder. Topline sloping slightly from withers to croup. Decent bend of stifle. Moved out well could have a bit more strength and drive from the rear. Tail carriage very high.

2. James’ Clamerkin Brown Onyx (Repeat)

Limit Dog (2/0)

1. Ferguson’s Dario Della Caveja 5yrs (D) Res Best Dog  Liked a lot about this boy. Super head. Super coat. Slightly longer in body than tall. Correct neck short and muscular, straight in front. Feet tight. Shoulder well laid back with good topline. Nice angulation at the rear with a good amount of thigh muscle really giving him drive on the move. Pushed hard for the top spot.

2. Worrall’s Moonreed Drake 2yrs (D)  Really liked the head on this boy, correct proportions, moderately broad and a slight divergence. Good eye and correct set ears. Neck is short, slightly arched and muscled. Well-laid shoulder and correct topline. Front is straight with a slight slope on the pasterns, nice feet. Coat of nice even curls. Moved out well with drive. Tail carried very high.

Open Dog (3/1)

Short neck, Shoulder well set back good straight forearm and elbows tight. Chest to elbow. Correctly almost square. Muscular thigh. Good bend of stifle. Topline ok. Puppy Bitch (1/1)

Junior Bitch (2/1)

1. Stephenson’s Made Chianti For Timtaurn 13mth (B) Best Bitch, Best of Breed  What a super little bitch, presents a square profile, although still very young I expect to see more form this one. Super head, lovely proportions. Short neck well muscled for age, shoulders well laid back and long in blade. Body compact, super topline. Well-muscled croup. Straight foreleg, tight elbows and chest correct depth. Super feet. Well-muscled thigh and good bend of stifle. On the move she was free, with a good drive from the rear. Accurate in all profiles and completely tireless. Really look forward to following her career.

Limit Bitch (3/1)

1. Whittick’s Moonreed Warbler At Allsong 6yrs (B)  Head moderately broad, short neck, would like a bit more muscle. Well-placed shoulder. Topline ok. Would like bit more bone to balance a little more substance. Chest to elbow, and elbows tight. Feet good. Coat evenly curled and wooly. Would like a little more muscle in the thigh to enable a little more drive. Good bend of stifle.

2. Grantham’s Mizani Diora Rose 7yrs (B)  Square in profile. Not the coat of 1. Head proportions correct, with well-muscled short neck. Shoulders well laid back with good length of blade. Topline good. Chest correct depth. Elbows tight. Feet compact and tight. Would like a bit more angulation in the hindquarters and more muscle to drive.

Open Bitch (3/2)

1. Whittick’s Allsong Nuova Luna 2yrs (B)  Another nice square profile, correct proportions all through. Head is moderately broad, and of the correct proportions. Eyes nice and well-set ears. Neck is short. Shoulders well placed. Loved the coat on this bitch, nice even curls and wooly. Topline slopes slightly from withers to croup. Forearms could be a little straighter this made for a slightly messy front movement.
