Manchester Dog Show Society

Breed: Dandie Dinmont Terrier

Many thanks to Mr Paul Harding and his hard-working committee for the invitation to judge Dandie Dinmonts, at this level for the first time at Manchester. Many thanks also to my hard-working stewards who worked hard through three entries without a break. It is always a pleasure to judge this delightful breed, today was no exception and what was more pleasing was a supportive ringside and the sportsmanship seen between exhibitors. I found no concerning or recuring faults. A few specimens were a little short of coat which I suspect was in preparation for Crufts.

PD (5 Entries) Abs: 1. A very good class to start the day with some nice puppies.

1. Dashing Top Hat N Tails at Tymeirz (imp hun) NAF. Pepper dog who impressed as soon as he came into the ring. This young dog, although just six months of age and still has some further maturing to do, is in indeed quite mature for his age. He has a super head which is broad in skull, has the correct skull to muzzle ratio, and is already well muscled. Lovely dark eye correctly set and correctly set ears, which are of correct texture, completed the overall desired expression. Correct length and strength of neck into well placed shoulders. This young dog has a well-made front with good bone and nice tight feet. Well sprung with good depth of chest. This dog has the desired topline which is not exaggerated in any way. Correct hind angulation and hind quarters well-muscled, this dog is clearly well exercised. In super jacket with good hard topcoat of correct colour. I wouldn’t want him any bigger but was quite impressed by this young man. His movement is a joy to watch, and he drives so well from his rear. It is not without some strong consideration one awards highest honours to a puppy, but he further impressed in the challenge doing enough to annexe the CC over his kennel mate. I shall watch his progress with interest.

2. CLOVERWOOD HAPPY DAZE. Another nice young prospect and a pleasure to go over him. This mustard dog is quality throughout although is still very raw. Another with a quality head of correct proportions and with a beautiful dark round eye of correct size. Good neck into well laid shoulders. Well boned and with a nice tight foot. Correct not over exaggerated topline. Lovely hind quarters which are well angulated and well muscled. Hocks well let down. Another with a harsh topcoat which is well put down. Moved soundly. Today he was over awed by the day and didn’t really put it all in, but I could not deny him his place. Another to watch and who has time on his side.

3. Cloverwood total legend

1. Dandiroyal Dashwood. This Pepper dog is very nice and of lovely breed type. He was an easy winner both in this class and subsequently of the well filled PG class. This dog impressed for his overall size and shape. He has very pleasing head with broad skull, well placed ears and good dark eye. Lovely head proportions with good strong muzzle and super large dentition. Good neck into excellent well angled shoulder. Well sprung round rib. Correct topline and tail set. Nice hind quarters. In good harsh jacket with corresponding soft head coat of correct colour. Moved very well and strongly considered for the RCC. Will do well.

2. Cloverwood total legend. Third in the strong puppy class. Nice young dog who has a lovely overall shape and is of good size. Very pleasing head and expression. Excellent bone and feet. Not quite the front assembly of the first placed dog. Good topline and lovely hind quarters. Moved ok. Needs to come into a new jacket.

3. Gabrielle Poppiepetalz Rule The World

PGD (5 Entries) Abs: 1

1. Dandiroyal Dashwood. Winner of PG.

2. Dryfevalley Midnight Blue. Quality pepper dog with lots of attributes. Very pleasing head and expression. Lovely silky topknot and head covering. Would prefer a faction more lay of shoulder and a fraction more length of neck. Good bone and lovely feet. Body of good length and with nice topline. Well ribbed up. Good depth of chest. In super hard condition. Needs to come into his new jacket. Moved well.

3. Puddockswell What The Dickens of Bleaklee

LD (1 Entries) Abs: 0

1. Belapapavo joyous jaguar. Mustard dog. Nice for size. Typical head and lovely dark eye giving a very typical expression. Nice ears of good size and shape. Decent neck and shoulder. Would prefer a little more of the typical rise over the loin. In super hard condition. Front action OK but could be a little more positive going away. In decent jacket and presentation.

OD (4 Entries) Abs: 1. Interesting class with a mixture of size and type.

Ch Tymeirz Benibouy JW. Mustard Dog. Scored for his overall silhouette and breed type. He has a very pleasing head and expression. He has a lovely strong neck which is set into a lovely shoulder and has a good front assembly. Nicely boned and well-muscled forelegs. Well let down chest and is well sprung. Topline is typical and is well muscled. Correct length of hindlegs and with thighs well developed, he is angulated nicely. Moved very well fore and aft. Could have a slightly better tailset which would help him be a little less proud of it. Very nice dog and deserved the RCC, giving way to his littermate.

2. Puddockswell Hoodwink. Quality pepper dog. Pleasing head and expression. Good neck into decent shoulder placement. Well off for bone and well muscled throughout. Good topline and tail set. Nice topline. Nicely angulated hind quarters. Not quite the front assembly of the first placed dog. Moved well. Well put down.

3. Hawkesmill Merlon for Redgreet

SBD (1 Entries) Abs: 0

1. Poppipetalz Mrbluesky At Hullpride. Nice overall make and shape, and good for size. Nice head although would prefer a little more strength of muzzle. Good dark expressive eye. Well set ears of correct size and texture. Good neck and shoulder. Pleasing topline. Moderate hindquarters. Moved well in all directions.

PB (5 Entries) Abs: 2.

1. Puddockswell queen of scots Ashenfox. Young quality pepper bitch. Not a small bitch and wouldn’t want her much bigger at this stage. She has a very nice feminine head which is yet broad and of correct proportions. Nice overall make and shape. Good topline which is not overdone in any way. Good hindquarters and well-muscled up. Could have a harsher topcoat, which I am sure will come with adequate rolling. Moved very well fore and aft with good drive from behind and well carried tail.

2. Puddockswell Copperfield of Bleaklee NAF. Another nice one with lots to like. Litter sister to the winner. Many of the comments above apply here to Copperfield. Just a little wider in the front than her sibling and out of coat today. A very nice mover.

3. Poppipetalz Relightmyfire

PGB (5 Entries) Abs: 2

1. Reidswire Lady Gaye. Quality pepper of good type. Pleasing head although would benefit from a little more strength in muzzle. Good neck and shoulder. Very good front with decent bone and feet. Good topline and hind quarters. Moved very well which won her this class.

2. Mishahda Fell in Love. Another with much to like, bigger and stronger overall than 1. Lovely head and expression. Well made throughout and well muscled and put down. Super bone. Moved with drive but just preferred the front action of 1.

3. Hullpride Marybeth Lacey

LB (6 Entries) Abs: 1

1. Dryfevalley Willow. I was really taken by this mustard bitch. She has a very typical head and expression. Feminine yet there is no loss of strength. Good dark, well set eye and ideal head proportions. Strong muzzle and good teeth. Well-developed I thought her quite lovely and on another day in different competition would happily award her a ticket. Today she had to make do with the RCC, her first. I wish her well.

2. Dandiroyal Dream Maker. Pepper who impressed with her overall type and size. Another with a head of correct proportions and strength. Lovely dark eye and nice ears. Good neck and shoulder. Very correct weaselly body. Harsh topcoat. Moved very well.

3. Diddimont Bella Trix of Bleaklee

OB (5 Entries) Abs: 0 A lovely class and similar to the OD class a mixture of type and size.

1. Ch CLOVERWOOD HERE COMES LULU. This is what I was looking for. I really fell for this very typey bitch as soon as I saw her. When you get under her mature topknot you find a lovely strong head without any loss of femininity. Good breadth to skull, which is proportioned as one would want, correct skull to muzzle ratio the latter being strong and with good underjaw. Lovely bright full eye correctly placed and good leathers of correct size and texture. Good neck into very well laid shoulder. Excellent bone for a bitch. Nice tight foot. Chest well let down. Good body length with a super topline which was held on the moved. Muscular loin. Correct tail set, and tail carried correctly on the move. Well muscled hindquarters with correct turn of stifle. Footfall was correct fore and aft and looks super in profile. In hard condition and put down in A1 condition. Pleasure to award her the CC and BOB. She put in a good performance in what was a very good terrier group, annexing group 3. Well Done.

2. Ch Dorchester’s Can You Hear Me Roar for Bonnybeck. Different type to 1. This is a lovely bitch who richly deserves her title. She impressed with her overall size and silhouette. Another with a good head which is well developed and of strength but clearly a bitch. If I am hypercritical I would prefer a less prominent eye. Good ears. Excellent neck into nicely laid shoulder. Good front. Super bone and feet. Good typical topline. Muscular back. Well-developed thighs. Moved well with good drive. Well put down and handled.
