Jack Russell Terriers
I have judged Jacks almost since they had breed recognition and was looking forward to this appointment. I was disappointed in the overall entry today as there is little in the way of consistency in type. Thetypical fox terrier front which is not correct in a Jack is creeping in and I penalised heavily. Please watch this. Quite a few had hardly any spring of rib. On the plus side the 50:50 heads were less prevalent today and overall, I was very happy with my principal winners.
Puppy Dog
Two very different young males to start the entry with.
1 All Jacks Clandestino (imp Ita). Seven and a half month old. Very raw at this stage but is quite promising. Pleasing head and expression. Good width of skull and nicely tapered, has a strong muzzle with decent strength of underjaw. Keen dark eye and correctly placed ear. Typical Jack front. Good bone and feet. Overall proportions are correct. Easily spanned. Good depth to his chest. Nice topline and enough behind the tail. Nice hind angulation. Moved well. 2 Saredon In The Limelight. Another quality and relatively raw male. Pleasing head and expression. Not quite the neck and shoulder of 1. Nice bone and lovely tight foot. Good overall proportions. Nicely angulated rear. In good hard condition. Moved well in all directions.
Junior Dog
1 Twinan High Regard. A smart and sturdy young male. Pleasing head and eye. Neat ears. These gave a good over expression. Good neck and shoulder. Correct topline and nice tail set. Well angulated rear. In super jacket of good texture. Moved very well fore and aft, with good drive from the rear. Liked him for his overall type and Best Dog. 2 Shanandi High Hopes. Another typey young male. Good head. Nice length of neck into well laid shoulder. Good bone and feet. A fraction wider in front than the first placed dog. Correct rib. Nicely made rear and enough behind the tail. Could have moved with a fraction more drive today.
Post Graduate Dog
1 Reulemill Quacajack. Good for size and overall body proportions. Pleasing head and expression. Correct length of neck. Good for bone and nice feet. Didn’t quite have the length or angulation in upper arm that I was looking for. Nice topline and tail set with plenty behind the tail. Nicely angulated hindquarters. Moved with drive. 2 Kabu Take It To The Max. Correct skull to muzzle ratio. Good eye and ear. Nice neck into pleasing shoulders. Good bone and feet. Not the topline and tail set of 1. Moved OK.
Limit Dog
1 Kaszavolgyi-furge Milton Laserna. Nicely made young dog. Has the correct body proportions and shows a very nice silhouette. Good head and expression. Neat dark eye and nice, neat ears. Good neck and shoulder. Level topline and good tail set. Moved well. He is a very typey and pleasing Jack.
Open Dog
1 Krisbos Voice Over. Young male who is a little young perhaps for this class although on this occasion stood alone. Very typey young dog with lots to like. Good head proportions with good breadth to the skull and good strong muzzle. Would prefer a darker keener eye to complete his expression. Good neck and shoulder. Correct topline. Lovely rear. Correct high set tail. Moved very well. Well put down and in hard condition.
Puppy Bitch
1 Jaeva Dont Dilly Dally With Chandlimore. T/W. This was an easy winner of this class for me. I thought her quite an enchanting puppy. She has a beautiful head and expression; she is very clearly feminine but this does not come with any lack of strength for a working terrier. Lovely keen dark eye. Good ears, which are not too big and well set. Pleasing neck into well place shoulders. Correct front. Enough bone and good feet. Level topline and enough rear behind her highest tail. Moved very well. Still raw and needs to rib out a fraction and mature through. She didn’t settle with a change of handler in the challenge which was a shame as she might have been a strong contender for higher honours. BP over a good BPD and shortlisted in the puppy group. I really liked her. 2 Bowstones Priscilla. Not belittled by coming second as this is another quality bitch puppy. Many of the comments of Dilly Dally apply here. Another with a lovely head of correct skull to muzzle proportions. Good neck and shoulder. Correct front. Level topline although could for perfection have a fraction more behind the tail for completeness. Just still a baby and needs to grow into her ears to complete the picture. You can tell her owner also has Labrador Retrievers as this Jack is in the hardest of muscular conditions which as a judge is a pleasure to see. 3 Soletrader Dot Com At Trimere. Another nice one.
Junior Bitch
1 Chandlimore High Heels On By Jaeva. Best Bitch and BOB. Quality bitch from the same kennel as the puppy winner. Another who appealed for her overall size shape and balance. My notes are sparse on this bitch as I have written that this is a beautiful bitch of correct proportions, construction and in superb condition. There is little to add here. She is quite lovely and a very precise mover. Started to fly her ears a fraction in the challenge but got them just right at the correct moment. She is lovely but she needs to watch her kennel mate who is hot on her heels.
Post Graduate Bitch
Not the easiest of classes to sort out with a variety of size and type.
1 Vixenview Gin Fizz For Lenacourt. Feminine bitch. Typey head with nice expression which won her this class. Nice neck into correctly laid shoulder. Neat front and good bone. Would prefer a fraction more on the leg for better clearance and balance. Nicely put down. Moved well. 2 Laserna Aranyani. Larger bitch than 1. Nice head of nice proportions. Pleasing expression Nicely put together front assembly which had her placed second in this class. Good bone and nice feet. Could have a better topline. Nice hind quarters. Moved ok. 3 Reulemill Floss Lass
Limit Bitch
Difficult to place these two bitches as little between them.
1 Locheil Snow Queen. More immature than Love of My Life but much to like in this young bitch. She is well made throughout with correct body and head proportions. Pleasing head and expression, correct skull to muzzle ratio and well developed cheek muscles, Good front construction. Correct bone and neat feet. Level topline and correct tail set. Good bend of stifle, but just needs to muscle up. 2 Locheil Love Of My Life. I have judged this bitch before and think her a very nice bitch. Many of the attributes above apply here and there is little to chose between them. I just preferred the slightly shorter muzzle of 1. Very nice overall size and shape and a verey sound mover.
Open Bitch
1 Totgree's Hannabell. This bitch was my Reserve Best Bitch and BPIS at the Club show last year. I thought her delightful at that time and of super breed type and overall proportions. I have not changed my opinion. Her head and expression are ideal for me, and her forearm and shoulder angulation is an example to the breed. Today again in the best of harsh jackets and so well put down. I was pleased to see her again but out of puppy, I would prefer her a fraction bigger all over and to have a bit more width to her front. 2 Jaeva Page Turner Chandlimore. Very different in type to 1. My winner in a strong junior class previously at the Club Show. Stronger and more solid through than the first bitch. Lovely head of correct proportions, with good dark eye. Not using her ears today which did cost her higher honours. Excellent neck and shoulder. Correct front assembly. Level topline with correct tail set and with plenty behind. Moved well.
Special Beginner Dog / Bitch
1 Rosita As A Kite. Pleasing young lady for size and overall shape. Typical head proportions. Good bone. Well angulated rear. In super hard condition. Moved well and with good drive from the rear.
