Cardigan Welsh Corgis
Many thanks to the committee for inviting me to judge the Cardigan Corgis. This is such a lovely and well set out show – such a pity that the weather was not kind enough for us to be out in the Spring sunshine. My thanks too to Anne and Ken for their brilliant stewarding and keeping me to time. My thanks specially to exhibitors for your lovely entry and receiving decisions in such a sporting way. It was a most enjoyable day!
Veteran Dog 3.1
1 Taylor; Handskes Just A Gigolo At Tamlin (Imp Fin) DCC BOB BV. A superb example of maturity getting better and better with age! So well made all through. Excellent head and expression, muzzle tapering nicely. Good, nicely shaped ears set correctly, muscular and nicely developed neck in proportion and leading into correct shoulders. Elbows kept close to his side. Well ribbed chest and level back right through to his breed typical tail. Muscular rear end with vertical hocks. This dog’s overall conformation and shape captivated my eye throughout, and the extension of his front movement was so impressive and in tune to the rear thrust - he moved like a well-oiled machine! He presented and was handled well to the highest standard - a great start to the day’s judging.
2 Siviter; Rubegud Takin The Mick ShCM VW. Plenty to like about this brindle now in his 11th year. Good depth of chest and strong front quarters. Very pleasing head with a masculine and kind expression. Well laid and sloping shoulders but just felt he was carrying a little too much weight on the neck today. Good bone however right through to feet. Plenty of coat today and he moved with a good and purposeful drive too.
Minor Puppy Dog 1.0
1 Langford; Gowerston Geriant Of Caprian BP. A really pleasing outline on this one – liked his overall shape and a lively sense of being a puppy and wanting to play that gave him such an appealing character. Sturdy and well balanced when he stood still, liked his masculine and not over done head and expression. Nice dark eye. Developing and muscular neck leading to well sloping shoulders – good front angles. Body length just right with level topline. Loved his large tight feet. Moved well when he settled.
Puppy Dog 1.0
1 Gowerston Geriant Of Caprian
Junior Dog 2.0
1 Fitzpatrick-Graham; Ancksunamun Age Of Cthulhu. Masculine outline in profile. Nice size and shape, body long and strong looking. Well balanced head and correct eye. Soft, yet alert expression which I liked. Good front and rear angles, well-muscled which enabled a strong driving movement, keeping his topline on the move.
2 Fox; Gowerston Granville. Good shape, well-proportioned merle but smaller than 1. Really liked his ear placement which he used well and to his advantage. Well laid shoulders and a decent topline. Well ribbed and deep chest. Movement was ok but I would have preferred a straighter hock though.
Yearling Dog 3.1
1 Taylor; Tamlin Millennium Falcon. Plenty of substance here. Broad skull in proportion – masculine but not overdone at all. A well-balanced youngster with good and typical head qualities, good neck, topline and correct tailset. Strong body with a fore-arms moulding nicely around the chest. Well padded, tight round feet.
2 Gowerston Granville
Post Graduate 2.0
1 Lee; Chrishama Magic Apprentice For Amenbury. Liked this dog’s driving movement and the alert way he held his head and kept his level topline so well on the move. Good head and expression, muscular front angles and strong bone. Good moulding of forearm around the chest too. Nice balanced profile overall which won him the class.
2 Field; Gowerston Grantchester. Loved this one’s head – eye and ear set and the active alert expression he offered his handler. Although a little high on the leg, his topline just didn’t do justice to his deep and well ribbed chest. Good, well-muscled rear angles and decent bone. Movement was sound.
Limit Dog 5.2
1 Lee; Wildcard Spot Check For Horcrux. Nice outline to this male. Good head and reach of neck. Correct eye and ear set. Deep chest with forelegs offering a good wrap around. Kept his level topline on the move – sound front extension on the move with equal rear drive.
2 Burgoyne & Goddard; Pemcader Diamond Geezer. Lost out to 1 today on overall profile and shape which I felt was hindered by his lack of coat. However, there is a lot to like here – he has an appealing head and an alert expression. Shoulder angles are correct. Fairly deep chest but a little shorter in back than I would have liked. He has good rear angles too and moved ok.
3 James; Keerside Glenkiln At Bwthyn
Open Dog 3.0
1 Frosdick; CH Mistycor Apollo Back To Black for Kalwig (Imp Rus) RDCC. Best mover in this class today covering the ground with ease. I have watched this dog before and like what I see. Well-constructed. He has the kindest of heads – perfectly balanced, good reach of neck and well-placed shoulders. Body of good length with a deep brisket and nicely shaped to the loin. Good tail too. A strong contender in the challenge I have to say, but thoroughly deserving of the reserve CC.
2 Clifton; Joseter Willy Wonka. Lost out today on front movement which was not as well extended as 1. However, a lovely breed example of sturdy masculinity, not overdone at all. Correct eye and ear set with a lovely dark eye. Good reach of neck into well laid shoulders. Good front moulding around the chest, good bone and nice tight feet. Loved his muscled hindquarters.
3 Down; CH Elessar Howling Moon
Veteran Bitch 3.2
1 Roberts; Wildcard Lottie At Foaldown. A lovely example of the breed still at 9 years. Stood perfectly. Feminine and pleasing expression on a well-furnished head. Really liked her well-proportioned body and lovely overall outline with enough substance still for her age. Correct sloping shoulders, shaped front legs and close to the sides, nice and muscular. Tight feet. Moved well and with drive.
Minor Puppy Bitch 3.0
1 Irving; Twinan Shield Of Steel RAF. At 7 months such an appealing and kind feminine head and expression. Good and correctly shaped front, nicely moulded. Good shoulder placement, fore chest and width of chest. Correct reach of neck. Lovely front angulation, well boned legs leading to tight feet. Well bent stifles showing vertical definition at the hocks giving a driving movement and covering plenty of ground. Very little to choose overall in the challenge for best puppy – just preferred the overall outline of the dog on the day.
2 James; Gowerston Gracelyn At Bwthyn. Lovely young female of 7 months who was enjoying a great day out it seemed and determined that everyone should know it! Nice overall outline. Pleasing expression on a nicely shaped head. Liked her well-proportioned body with enough substance for her age. Correct sloping shoulders, good bone with forearms moulding nicely around the chest. Nice and muscular rear quarters too . Moved well when she settled.
3 Lee; Gowerston Gemstone At Amenbury
Puppy Bitch 2.0
1 Taylor; Kris Team Bakalia For Tamlin (Imp Pol) Pleasing head and well balanced throughout. Well tucked in elbows, strong bone and nice tight feet. Well sprung ribs with plenty of heart room level topline through to a well-defined waist. Moved out well using her rear quarters to advantage.
2 Morris; Gowerston Genevieve. So much to like about this beautifully marked merle despite her nervous busyness on the day.– strong well-made front and all in proportion though. Such a pretty feminine head, good reach of neck and well-muscled front and rear. Deep chest and gave me occasional glimpses of a lovely and typical side profile despite her erratic movement today. This will come right with perseverance and training.
Junior Bitch 2.0
1 Fitzpatrick-Graham; Ancksunamun Hallows Eve JW Loved her head, eye and expression. Good length of clean neck into well laid shoulders and correct upper arm moulding nicely around the chest which is of good depth. Nice length of body too and she held her topline on sound movement. This won her this class.
2 Frosdick; Elmsmere Star Request For Kalwig. So much to like about this one – feminine head and kind expression, body in proportion for size and outline. Correct eye and ear set with good reach of neck into good shoulders. Nice length of body and deep brisket. Although her movement was sound, she just seemed a little high on the croup which altered her visual profile on the move today.
Yearling Bitch 5.1
1 Smith; Ceranda Gower Diamond. Brindle, well off for body, front assembly and a nice deep chest. Balanced head and good reach of neck – used her ears to her advantage and was sound on the move too. Her handler really worked to get the best out of her in this class and it worked out for the best. Kept this up in the challenge too and she did catch my eye.
2 Taylor; Tamlin Rogue Shadow. Compact, clean outline – finer in profile than 1 . Well developed head and a lovely soft expression. Plenty of neck, muscular and good shoulder angles. Good depth of rib and level topline. I just felt that her movement was not as free as 1 today though.
3 Evans; Lidoffad Isabella Flower
Post Graduate Bitch 4.1
1 Evans; Lidoffad Llew Gwyllt RBCC. Presented well and when stretched on standing, her length is in proportion to her height and she looks good in profile. She is compact and nicely feminine but not overdone in any way. Well-set ears and correct front. She is also well muscled front and rear and she uses these to extend and drive herself forward. Good bone and tight, well-trimmed and padded feet. In the challenge she rearranged her standing pose naturally and sufficiently to demonstrate her correct proportions and thus secured the reserve CC.
2 Langford; Caprian Adrianna JW. Smaller in overall profile than 1 but compact if a little low to the ground. A kind and expressive head, correct ears and eyes. Good front, well-developed and muscular neck. Good spring of rib. Level topline which she kept on the move. I just preferred the overall outline of 1 today.
3 Holmes; Keerside Edie Chaol
Limit Bitch 1.1
1 Roberts; A Ray Of Sunshine At Kogarahs (Imp) BCC. This 5-year-old tri really appealed to me for breed type today. Feminine throughout with a soft and alert expression. Good bone and feet, good length of neck and nicely muscled too. This extends to her well angled shoulders and through to her ‘in proportion’ body and level topline. Rear quarters are nicely muscled and firm. She moved out soundly and maintained a free and active flow, front and rear. Although she stood alone in her class, she was more than a match for other class winners today and kept up the pace to secure a well-deserved BCC.
Open Bitch 7 2
1 Down; Elessar Lunar Eclipse. Good construction and profile all through which made her stand out in this class. Nice head ratio and feminine expression. Correct ear set. Good reach of neck into well laid-back shoulders – in correct proportion and angled to upper arm, elbows close to sides. Nice tight feet. Deep chest with plenty of heart room. Level topline and good tail. Moved ok.
2 Langford; Caprian The Vixen JW. Finer in overall outline to 1 but also well-made and in proportion. Kind and expressive head, good shoulders and front angulation. Level topline and movement was also fine with a strong rear drive. Could easily have changed places with 1 in terms of overall type and conformation, but 1 just had that edge today.
3 Siviter; Faywaidd Spice
