Southern Counties Canine Association

Breed: Welsh Corgi (Cardigan)

Welsh Corgi, Cardigan.

I would like to thank the committee for this invitation, and my hardworking stewards and the exhibitors for braving the unseasonable cold wind.

In deciding my placings, I asked myself Does this particular virtue or fault either enhance or detract from this dog’s ability to work? Virtues that do enhance the dog in its work were prioritised over those that do not. Similarly faults that did not detract from working ability were considered less serious than those that may. I was happy that I had the luxury of typey Cardigans in all classes.

OD(3,1) 1st Taylor’s Tamlin Millenium Falcon. Good level topline and well ribbed up. Strong loin. Brisket deep enough, good width, prominent sternum. Angles good all round, balanced and no exaggeration. Good wrap around in forelegs, modest turn out of front feet. Feet round, strong pasterns. Well set tail. Wedge head with flat skull, oval eyes. Good size and set of ears. Muscular neck set smoothly into withers. Gait sound and ground covering from all views. BD and BOS. 2nd Fricker’s Kerman Pitch The Ball. Very pleasing head with parallel planes, correct proportions, oval eyes, and good ears. Strong neck well set onto shoulders. Well angulated and balanced. Good round feet. Good spring and depth of ribcage, not quite the length of ribcage as first. Prominent forechest. Strides out well from all views.

V(3) All males. 1st Taylor’s Ch. Handskes Just A Gigolo at Tamlin (Imp Fin). Excellent in head characteristics, has scissor bite. Well held, level topline. Balanced angles all round, with good round feet. Very sound on the move with plenty of drive. Well off for lung room. Prominent forechest. Flies his tail on the move but just avoids curling it over. RBD. 2nd Williams and James’ Ch. Bwthan Headliner JW ShCM ShCEx VW Another really nice boy with a good topline, strong neck, well angulated with good wrap around the ribs, good forechest. I preferred first in head type. He also moved soundly from all views with almost as much verve as first. 3rd Siviter’s Rubegud Takes The Mick ShCM VW. A little heavier in build, but well built and angled. Good head. He was not moving as freely as the others but was sound.

PB(3,1) Both girls were still a little soft in topline, understandably. 1st Taylors’ Kris Team Bakalia for Tamlin (Imp Pol). Well made 10 month old. Pleasing head of good proportions, dark oval eyes, scissor bite. Plenty of dog in front. Balanced. Well ribbed. Tail of good length. Strode out soundly from all views with plenty of drive. BP. 2nd Davies’ Joseter Ooh Betty at Ceranda. Very much a baby at 7 months. Pleasing and feminine head with excellent ears. Strong neck. Well boned, with good angles all round. Lovely fox brush tail. Good forechest. Maybe a touch long in loin at present. Moves well from all views.

JB 1st Kris Team Bakalia for Tamlin. BJ.

PGB(3,1) 1st Fitzpatrick-Graham’s Ancksunamun Hallows Eve JW. Pleasing head of correct proportions, flat skull between the ears. Oval eyes. Level topline. Good depth and spring of rib, maybe a touch long in loin. Gait sound from all views. Plenty of forechest. Strong pasterns. 2nd Taylors’ Tamlin Rogue Shadow. Feminine head of correct proportions, flat skull between the ears, which are set correctly allowing her to lay them back along her neck, which she is doing in my photo. Level topline. She moves well from all views. I would like her to develop more in the chest over the next year.

OB(5,2) This was the strongest class. 1st Fricker’s Ch Kerman Field Of Dreams. This girl did not put a foot wrong. Soundly made with a feminine head. Well proportioned head and body, balanced angulation. Forelegs wrap around chest of good depth and spring. Well ribbed up. Her eyes and ears pleased. Good forechest, foxbrush tail. Gait sound from all views with plenty of drive. Preferred her head in the challenge. BB BOB. 2nd Fitzpatrick-Graham’s Elessar Moon Dancer of Ancksunamun. Also a very pleasing bitch, not quite as well ribbed up as first but in all other respects ran her very close. Head, eyes, ears, and neck all very typical. Balanced angles, firm level topline. Well set and carried tail. Gait sound from all views, and had drive. RBB. 3rd Siviter’s Faywaidd Spice. Another excellent bitch of good type and breed characteristics. She moved well but would not stand to best advantage today.
