Siberian Huskies
Thank you to the show organisers for this appointment, and for giving us a really good sized ring which allowed this breed to stride out and cover the ground, showing off their grace and athleticism. Also thanks to my stewards for their efficiency and company. Special thanks to the exhibitors for making this appointment so challenging by bringing me an array of absolutely beautiful Siberians. There were several classes where under normal circumstances all could have been winners, so I was making my choices by the pickiest of breed points. One thing I did notice was that while side gait was almost without exception good, there were some that persisted in moving wide away and one or two with cow hocks. In such good company these things made a big difference.
MPD(4,1) 1st Spratley’s Winterlumi Wolf Moon. 7m. Correct proportions, just longer in body than height, correct leg length about ten per cent longer than depth of chest. Typical in head, his ears just need to firm up a bit. Medium length of neck blends into well laid shoulder. Shows some return of upper arm. Ribcage shape and length is good, medium length taut loin. Good length and slope of croup. In summer coat of good texture. A little upright on his front pasterns but this will become ok as he bodies up over the next couple of years. 2nd Toomer’s Shaali Firestarter. Another promising boy of 8m and looking a commensurate bit more mature than first. Of good body proportions and leg length. Already masculine in head and expression. Level topline and matching angulation. Gait good from all views, first just a little lighter on his feet. 3rd. Bailey’s Moose Creek. 6m and I think his first show. Much smaller than the other two, but very game to trot after them and not left behind. Nice body, coat, earset. A little short in muzzle.
JD(2) 1st Spratley’s Siberiadrift Howlaween. 1yr. Well proportioned in body and leg length, with the better length of upper arm and return of the two. Good shape and length of ribcage, muscular loin. Good slope to croup and tail set correct. I would like a bit more refinement in head. Gait sound and with good reach and drive all views. 2nd Lightfoot’s Trailhunter’s Huccaby Tor of Footlite. Well proportioned elegant dog, and I preferred this one’s head. Foxy and refined but still masculine. Slight arch to medium length neck. A little upright on his pasterns and still to fill out and there is plenty of time for this. Ribcage and loin please for his age. Gait good from side especially, not quite the reach of first.
YD(1) 1st Wakker’s Komaksiuts Glen Devon Ratatuyak at Ceannabeinne (Imp NLD). Alone, but a very handsome example. Almost 2 yrs, but still not mature. His proportions and leg length are correct. A very attractive foxy head with almond eyes set slightly obliquely. Good tight-fitting lips. Lovely neck and shoulder, matched at rear. Well defined waist. Correct croup and tail set. His chest is yet to fill out and this permits him to toe out slightly in front at the moment. A good illustration of the slow maturing nature of this breed.
PGD(5) this was one of the best quality PG classes I have seen up to now. I liked all 5, so had to look hard to sort them out. 1st Leich, Leich and Koops Forstals Pingo. An elegant male with the beautiful foxy head that we must not lose in the breed. His proportions are correct, very pleasing in leg length and angulation. His ribcage is a good length and shape, then a well defined muscular waist. Correct slope to croup with well set fox brush tail. Gait sound with good reach and drive, correctly tending to single track. 2nd Bryson’s Inukshuk O’Aningan JW. Pleasing in head characteristics, neck. Body and angles good, and ran first close in every way. 3rd Amphlett and Sym’s Korva Crazy Cornetto at Sybasprinter (Imp Swe). A promising boy, not quite as mature, so gait less tidy.
LD(4) 1st Seward’s Elleonia Unbreakable Heart. A very sound, well proportioned male with excellent angulation and bone lengths in his limbs, balanced. Correct body length to height. Showing some forechest. His gait is sound all views and he has a good length of stride. His head characteristics are good, I would like a little more chiselling for perfection. 2nd Anderson’s Azgard Cohiba to Uriakin. He is a very good male Siberian and close up to first in all respects. He also could be more foxy in head to put the icing on the cake. His body and leg length are good, level topline, correct slope to croup. A touch less angulated hence not reaching and driving quite as much as first. 3rd Jones’ Azgard Monterrey, and 4th were also good examples of the breed.
OD(4,1) 1st Leich, Leich and Koops’ Forstal Xans Ruadhan. He is such an eyecatcher and did not disappoint in any way. He has a beautiful foxy refined yet masculine head. Lovely slight arch to neck, blending into an excellent shoulder assembly. Showing some forechest. Correct shape, length and depth of ribcage. Defined waist, correct slope to croup and tail set. Slight slope to pasterns to well shaped feet. Fox brush tail. Excellent in body length to height, correct leg length. Level topline. Gait is sound, ground covering and light from all views. DCC and BOB. 2nd Fletcher’s Azgard Bolivar at Whitepeak. Well made and proportioned, he was the second best mover in this good class. He is well angulated but with slightly lesser degree of length and angle back of upper arm than first. Balanced front to rear, and sound. He moved soundly and well from all views. 3rd Snelson’s Azgard Montechristo at Ashrax. This boy is also out of the top drawer.
VD(6) Aged from 8yrs to 11 yrs and you really would not know it. 1st Wakker’s Shaytaans Doctor Watson at Ceannabeinne(Imp Can). Excellent in length of body to height, and in leg length. His angulation is good and balanced. Level topline, good ribcage with some forechest, correct slope to croup and tailset good. Moderate tuck up and well-muscled loin. Refined foxy head and slight arch to medium length neck. His angles allow a good length of stride and his gait was sound from all views. RCC. 2nd Sargent’s Hushwing Wezztlee with Keriquel. Very nicely put together and close up to first in all respects, however here he sloped his topline slightly. A refined head of correct proportions, correct body length for height, good slope and length of croup. Well angulated and moves out well and soundly from all views. Good pasterns and feet and lovely fox brush tail. 3rd Beirne’s Penkhalas Itaska. Much more confident than when I last saw him and moved well from all views. Top size, but well put together.
SBD(3) 1st Shaali Firestarter. More settled in this class, and was the best on the move from all views. 2nd Grice’s Elleonia No Matter What. Correct body length to height. Pleasant masculine head and expression. Medium length of neck, correct in ribcage, loin and croup. At present standing rather straight in front with steep pasterns. Gait good from all views. 3rd Moose Creek.
MPB(6) This class made me feel optimistic for the future. 1st Toomer’s Shaali Fireball. 8m. Beautifully put together, with a lovely feminine refined head. She has a good length of ribcage, a firm loin, correct length and slope of croup, tail set below topline which is level. Well angulated all round. Slight slope to pasterns, good tight oval feet. With everything in proportion, her gait was sound and light from all views. 2nd Bryson’s Inukshuk Ride The Storm. 8m. Immaculate coat. Just getting into the gawky stage of development so gait not quite as coordinated as first, and standing just slightly high at the rear. Good gait from all views. Pretty head with moderate stop, elegant neck set on well laid shoulders. Pleasing body. 3rd Bryson’s Inukshuk Hello Darkness. This one and her other sister in this class very similar to second, just nudging another very nice pup into 5th place.
PB(8,2) 1st Amphlett and Sym’s Korva Crazy Noelle at Sybasprinter (Imp Swed) My note aiding photo does not really do her justice. At 10m she is very well put together, with an excellent lay of shoulder and upper arm. Muzzle and skull are of equal length, with a moderate stop. Almond, oblique set eyes. Already has a muscular looking neck and well developed ribcage, strong loin and excellent croup. Rear angles match the front. Moderate tuck up. Correct leg length, and some forechest. Her gait was sound and light with good drive and reach. BP. 2nd. Shaali Fireball. Close up but understandably less mature in body. 3rd Winterlumi Moondance.
JB(5,1) 1st Simmons Forstals Ilsa of Aurorasdream. At nearly 18m and still very leggy. Well presented and handled white with a feminine head, medium length neck flowing into a well laid shoulder, showing a little forechest. Still to fill out in body. Her general proportions are correct. Her gait was excellent from all views, good reach and drive and tending to single track. 2nd Allen-Davern and Hughes Siberiadrift Trick or Treat for Zimavolk. Attractive and feminine, also still to mature in body. Good tight lips and typical Siberian mischievous expression. The same comments as first apply here, gait just not quite as coordinated as yet. 3rd Freeman and Wakefields Siberiadrift Hocus Pocus.
YB(6,3) 1st Sinclair’s Mydisa Hielen Sassie Lass at Lesamian. Correct body length to height ration. Correct leg length being greater than half her height. Still to develop a little in chest. Balanced angles, level topline, good slope to croup. She lacks a little in stop, otherwise a decent head. She has the best angles in the class and her gait was sound and covered the most ground. 2nd Wakeling’s Mydisa Hielen Peelie Waaly at Klewagin. Very leggy and with a good angle back of upper arm, she shows a little forechest which I like to see. She has good overall proportions and a level topline. Sound in gait from all views and close up to first. 3rd. Spruce’s Mysticwolf Mo Cuishle. A nice neat feminine girl with good gait.
PGB(5,1) 1st Howarth and Phillips’ Tsaritsa’s Atalanta. Just longer in body than she is in height, with good leg length. Still to fill out in chest, ribs of good spring, well muscled loin. Cprrect length and slope of croup. Feminine head of correct proportions. Out of coat, she could hide nothing. Well laid shoulder and good length of upper arm. Gait good from all views and best of class in this respect. 2nd Hughes’ Siberiadrift Daring Sage. Close up to first and the same comments apply, she was the next best on the move. Everything is in proportion, good length of upper arm and showing a little forechest. Very satisfying to see a class of promising young ladies. 3rd Candy’s Artictreks Goldilocks at Snodragon JW and 4th Allen’s Harpan’s Halo, not quite so together on the move as first 2.
LB(7) 1st Bryson’s Inukshuk Iqniq o The Night JW. She has an excellent make and shape and shows femininity without weakness. Well laid shoulder with good return of upper arm, some forechest. Level topline, moderate tuck up. Typical head and slight arch to neck. A strong contender in the line up. Gait very good from all views. 2nd Fletcher’s Siberiadrift Blue Lagoon at Whitepeak. Of good proportions and leg length. Well angulated, moderate slope to pasterns, tight feet. Good length of ribcage, taut loin. A little less refined in head than 1. Gait sound and good from all views. 3rd Simmons Forstals Jetska at Aurorasdream. Also a really good example of the breed, and the next best on the move.
OB(7) 1st Sinclair’s Salazka Seraphina Picquery at Lesamian. Correct body length to height proportions, being just a little off square. Correct leg length to height ratio. Well ribbed up with level topline and taut waist. Good length and slope of croup and correct tailset below topline. Moderate tuck up. Well angulated and balanced. Feminine head, well chiselled, moderate length neck blends into shoulders. A joy to watch on the move, excellent from all views. RCC. 2nd Goodwin’s Valkyrie Siwash Legend (Imp Cze) Well put together, balanced and well angulated. Textbook leg length to height, with chest depth reaching her elbow. Pleasing typical head and expression. Very good and sound gait from all views. 3rd Sargent’s Ch. Keriquel Rose Royale.
VB(8,1) This was an especially quality class. 1st Sinclair’s Salazkas Aleshanee for Lesamian. This 10 yr old has the most beautiful feminine foxy head. She is refined and athletic without weakness and has correct bone for her size. Slight arch to her neck. Level topline, correct slope of croup, defined waist. Sufficient spring of rib, with good depth and length. Well set on fox brush tail. Well angulated and balanced. Shows a little forechest. Her legs are correct in length with slightly sloping pasterns. She moves truly, tending to single track and is light footed while covering the maximum ground. CC and BOS. 2nd Wakker’s Shaytaans China White at Ceannabeinne (Imp Can). Close up to first in all respects. This almost 9 year old is shown in such fit condition, only her pure white presentation tells you that she has not come into the ring straight from running the odd 30 miles or so. Feminine refined head, well built and with excellent movement from all views. 3rd Anderson’s Azgard Pinkster to Uriakin. Another beautifully made bitch and good mover.
SBB(7,1) 1st Shaali Fireball BSB. 2nd Howarth and Phillips’ Forstals Elfin. Feminine head, correct body length to height, correct leg length. Moved well. A little steeper in upper arm than 1. Very nicely made body and croup. 3rd Inukshuk Forest of the Night.
