SAMOYED

Judge: Mrs H Salmon-Wilson (Salmona)

I was delighted to be asked to judge at the Scottish Kennel Club Championship Show on 18th May 2024. For the first time, they held ‘double’ Ch. Shows for the SKC, with both May and Oct Shows being run together. I would like to extend my thanks to the members of the committee who made my husband and I feel very welcome, and a special thank you to my two excellent stewards who kept the ring flowing at a brisk pace. This judging appointment was very special to me as it was 50 years ago this month that I got my first Samoyed, and became a “Sammy addict”! I was very fortunate to have some lovely dogs under me and was so pleased with my 2 CC and Res CC winners. An observation though is that there seemed to be quite a diversity of shapes and sizes, I would suggest that care is taken when breeding that the true Sammy is not lost. I would like to thank everyone who took the time and effort to show under me, it was a pleasure and a privilege to judge your lovely dogs. A big pat on the back to everyone on the presentation and handling, regardless of the position you were placed, you still took home the best dog in the world. And finally, I was over the moon to see that my BOB had done the ‘double’, and won BOB at both shows and was placed 2nd and 4th in the respective groups. What a great ambassador she was for the Samoyed breed.

Not yet 2 years and maturing very nicely. Well-built body and front. Good head and pigmentation. Tail well set with lovely plume. Moved and showed well.

Can I make a comment on the 2 bitches who competed in the GCB class. From my personal experience with other ‘doggy disciplines” I am very proud of these exhibitors as they have committed their time and effort to take their dogs to training classes not only to make their dog a better ‘citizen’, but it also nurtures the relationship and teamwork between the dog and handler. It’s a real achievement to gain these awards and I hold this class in very high esteem. Well done to Diarmuid and Sharon.
