BULLMASTIFF

Judge: Mrs Hazel Fitzgibbon

I really enjoyed my day, giving my first CCs in this breed. A few observations.. Tooth size seems to be very varied, some tiny teeth in substantial dogs. Feet seem to be a problem with some splayed and flat ones evident today. Some couplings were over long at the expense of the rib cage. As the Bullmastiff is a strong dog, the strength through the loin is important; some look to be good but on examination prove ‘soft’. Fronts seem to be a problem in a lot of breeds and Bullmastiffs are not alone in in having ‘stacked’ dogs whose fronts do not translate into necessarily good front movement. I was most concerned by head shape with some long muzzles appearing which give a very odd expression, almost dish faced. Please keep those lovely well portioned heads which are an important point of the breed. My thanks to exhibitors who came today.

More the proportions I was looking for today. A very promising puppy with excellent reach of neck and arch. Excellent bone and underline. Excellent spring of rib for a baby and a good length. Lovely feet for a baby. Movement as to be expected in all the babies has to be tightened up but all these youngsters gave a good account of themselves.

2nd: 2204 LOMAX, Mrs Gillian Stoneglad Seduction

Very much a minor puppy but very promising. Head lovely for age. Good rib for age. Good overall proportions but understandably needs to fill in in all directions.

3rd: 2209 MCGROARTY, Miss Lynn Ardhub In His Stride

I did notes on this youngster as he presented a conundrum to me. Having an excellent head and body shape Excellent bone but at this point suffered from being so totally out of balance. Has the essentials to be a fabulous dog in maturity.

What a lovely dog this is. Built broadly throughout with great lay of shoulder. Well shaped head with enough wrinkle and expressive eye. Lovely reach of neck and arch. Good body but more to come I think. When he settled on the move, he was lovely, indeed breath taking; sadly he decided to act very much like the puppy he is. But he did enough overall to convince me he is a Champion in the making.

2nd: 2198 FASCOINE, Mr Tony & HOWDEN, Miss R Reesley's Take It To The Top At Fasden:

Good neck and bone on this youngster. Head of good shape and enough wrinkle. Good bone and moving out well. Stifle could be better developed, but still moves out well and soundly.

Substantial youngster and very broad throughout. Very well-developed front and sternum. Good bone. Excellent stifles but needs the muscle to support them well. Excellent feet. Head a little overdone for me.

What a fabulous and elegant girl this is. A beautiful head piece, so very correct with a lovely eye and neat ears. I loved her proportions and her outline. Good neck and body going into short broad coupling. Optimum muscling showed on the free and easy gait which carries her with ease.
