Breed: English Toy Terrier (Black & Tan)

NORTH EAST OF ENGLAND TOY DOG SOCIETY 14th July 2024

ENGLISH TOY TERRIER (BLACK & TAN)

I am grateful for the opportunity to judge at the inaugural North East of England Toy Dog Society Championship show. The reception was warm and friendly and the hospitality met expectations. Historic Newcastle racecourse in Gosforth Park situated just 5 miles north of Newcastle is a stunning venue. It was intended to have judging outdoors in front of the grandstand however the rain never let up and thanks to an heroic effort by the committee judging was moved inside at short notice. Unfortunately the ring was a little small making it difficult to assess movement properly.

The quality of exhibits today was generally good however more attention needs to be paid to the dog’s claws and teeth because I noticed some long claws and poor dentation. The exhibits were in good health and clearly fit for function with thick glossy coats thanks to their time in the summer sun (but sadly no sun today).
