Irish Setter Club Of Wales

My thanks must go to the Irish setter club of Wales for inviting me to judge my first set of tickets in a breed that is very close to my heart on the day I felt very privileged to be judging not just one sex but I was so honoured to judge the bitches as well this was due to my co judge Mrs Lynn Murray hogs flesh being unable to judge the bitches due to an accident she had on the run up to the show, I wish Lynn all the best and a speedy recovery I’m sure the committee will have you back when your able , on my list of thanks are you the exhibitor for entering your lovely dogs under me and spending your hard earned cash and taking my decisions in the sporting manor you did and lastly my to wonderful stewards for keeping my ring running smoothly all day it will be a day that will live long in my memory I couldn’t help thinking of when my journey began back in 1970 when bracken field Daniel { SEAN}walked into my life at the young age of 4 and now it’s all history many thanks GRAEME HUGHES

1/ BOTT ,MRS MARITA -- BARDONHILL RETURN TO SENDER -- promising 7 month old male full of breed type, he has such a balanced head for one so young , kind eye ,fine ears with raised brows giving that lovely typical Irish expression ,showing good length of neck very clean leading nicely into his well developing front ,excellent straight forelegs and correct tight cat like feet ,super forehand with just the correct depth of chest for his age ,body proportions all there lovely long ribcage which is carried well back ,he has plenty rear angulation and super croup and tail set very steady on the move coming and going carried his topline very well I would say he has a bright future.

  

2/ DANKS – KEMISH & KNIVETON -- ALOLFRANNA TRIPLE CROWN AROUND ORNSTONE another typey baby ,very promising his head is divine at this stage in his development ,dark expressive eyes raised brows and low set ears , good bone and substance , arched neck into well laid shoulders ,firm topline just needing to drop into his quarters but only a baby will come with age , good tail set and well bent stifle ,already developing in fore chest ,fantastic rich dark coat sympathetically handled .

1/ TAPPER & LEYLAND -- ,Mr D AND MISS RV AND Mr C -- KEDALTA STEPTOE AND SON -- my notes say very striking young dog and boy did he not let me down , well-schooled and trained he presented a nice balanced outline ,pleasing head ,dark eye and raised brow I really liked his kind expression ,good length of neck ,pleasing body proportions , good depth of chest and spring of rib for his age ,pleasing strong hindquarters , super bone throughout , lovely topline and tail set presented in super hard condition ,with an excellent coat coming through moved very steady and true I’m sure a bright future awaits this young fella BEST PUPPY DOG

  

2/ RUSSELL ,MRS JOY -- TIROEN TOUGH OF MAGIC BY SETTESOLI {IMP KCJ} --- Unlucky to meet my first place in top form but another top youngster with a lot to like about him at 10 months old a very handsome fella indeed a lot to like , he has a super typical Irish head and expression with lovely correct eye shape ,raised brow and refined over his skull ,balanced overall and well bodied with good depth of chest , tidy over the withers with correct topline into excellent tail set ,another baby with a cracking rich Chestnut coat ,moved very well carrying his topline very well

1/ OSTMAN ,MS C --- COPPERS RIDDARSPORRE {ATC AUCBA17516SWE} ---- I’ve admired this exhibitors stock for many years and was so pleased she made the effort to come to the uk to show her dog under me, this fella was approaching his 8 th birthday and never disappointed me full of breed type ,full of quality and turned out very well .in lovely coat and had condition ,he presented a super picture , nicely balanced with a gentle slopping topline .he has the most handsome of heads ,low set ears and dark pigmentation ,typical desired expression and glint of mischief in his dark eyes, nicely constructed with excellent angulation ,pronounced sternum ,plenty depth of chest and good spring of rib ,good length of neck that fitted cleanly into his shoulders ,nice bone and muscle tone ,it’s very obvious to me this gentleman still enjoys doing his job ,carried his topline superbly and moved with excellent power and drive pleased to award him . BEST VETERAN DOG & BEST VETERAN IN SHOW IN SHOW

  

2/ PYM ,MRS SARAH --- THENDARA THE WATCHMAKER --- another lovely lad I have admired over the years very much in his prime ,very well presented and in excellent coat and condition which is very typical to this kennel a lot of the same comments apply to this fella a bit smaller to one but nicely constructed throughout with excellent bone and muscle tone , he is a very handsome male with a balanced head ,nice dark eyes and low set ears ,gentle expression .moved with plenty power drive and animation another excellent example of the breed .

1/ EDWARDS , MRS S E -- COPPERS GET OFF MY CLOUD BY BONHOMIE {IMP SWE } {ATC 1234567} --- He presents a super picture , super sloping topline , good front straight forelegs , and well off for bone ,a strong arched neck , deep sloping well back and excellent wide quarters ,hindlegs are long and muscular from hip to hock and super strong from hock to heel , vey handsome in head ,oval skull and low set ears held his self well on the move with loads of power and drive ,handled to advantage .

  

2/ DANKS – KEMISH AND SWANNELL – ALOLFRANAS ALL I ASK EVEANDABEC JW --- A promising youngster lovely head and expression ,and kind eye ,well set ears .lovely strong neck ,,good depth of chest ,excellent front and shoulders , elbows well let down , clean over the withers .strong correct topline ,well ribbed back strong muscular croup and correct tail set , another exhibit strong from hip to hock and hock to heel ,moved steady and true unlucky to meet one today could easily have changed places but never moved as well as my first today im sure a promising future awaits this youngster.

1/ LUCAS MR & MRS P --- GWENDARIFF BACHELOR BOY --- 16 month typey male in super coat and condition well balanced and a racy chap ,his head is long and lean ,skull correct shape ,with low set ears ,he has a clean neck which flows into his super shoulders he has the correct topline excellent in rib carried well back ,he also has excellent depth and an excellent strong croup and tail set ,presented in excellent coat and condition moved steadily with animation and power and drive very at one with handler .

  

2/ BERRY ,MORRIS & FITZMAURICE ---- COPPERS MIDSUMMER NIGHTS DREAM {IMP SWE {BA1} JW ---- another youngster full of breed type but boy did he give his handler a hard time today just wouldn’t settle very hard to critique on movement and side profile but in saying this a lot to like oval in skull ,low set ears ,very appealing in expression you walk towards him he pulls you in but boy he was full of mischief which made me smile but I had sympathy with his handler, he has a clean neck ,straight forelegs ,elbows well let down and he was balanced in proportions may be I’ll get my hands on him again in the future and give him the critique he deserves .

1/ BOTT , MRS MARITA -- BARDONHILL CARRY ON DICK -- super boy very typey ,classic refined head ,with raised brows and lovely dark hazel eyes giving him that soft expression we all look for .low set ears ,slight arch to his neck leading into his topline that gently slopes down to his well set tail ,he has well sprung ribs giving him plenty heart room and a nice arch through his loin .good angulation fore and aft ,he looked really well in his rich chestnut coat , moved very well with good reach and drive im sure in time top honours will follow .

  

2/ KOLBACH ,MISS L -- KERRYFAIR ZOOM INTO PAWSWORD -- a lot to like about this boy a bit of a handful today , he has a cracking refined head , long and lean , kind eye with raised brows , slight arch to his strong neck , he is very racy in appearance and balanced throughout ,he has the best of fronts and super return of upper arm ,he stands straight and true ,super bone and feet ,his topline is clean , gently slopping and firm , his rear quarters were strong and powerful , his hocks are well let down and well-muscled ,once settled he moved very well ,coming and going and in profile , he pushed one hard today could have changed places on another day .

1/ WALKER ,MRS L & MR D ---- GWENDARIFF UCANT TOUCH THIS [JW} --- this young man I have watched from a youngster and he never disappointed once I got my hands on him , caught my eye when he came into the ring excellent size and super outline so balanced all through ,divine masculine long and lean head with correct shaped eyes with a kind expression , super stop . long muscular slightly arched neck ,correct topline and tail set his shoulders are well laid back with excellent upper arm ,powerful hind quarters ,deep chest , well sprung ribs ,strong loin short in hocks,well off for bone and smart tidy feet . on the move what can I say he moved so well coming and going and in profile a testament to his up bringing and schooling his muscle tone and condition was out the park and he was presented in a gleaming coat Beautifull rich chestnut in colour we all look for , this young fella is very much at one with his handler could not deny him the RCC today I’m sure more top honours lie ahead for this duo very well done he is a credit to you and his kennel . 2/ BERESFORD ,MISS M ---- JETSETTER WIND OF DREAMS [IMP RUSSIA } ---- a lot to like about this fella he pushed the class winner hard today ,he presents a super racy balanced outline good bone throughout , lovely masculine head with unshelled almond eyes ,raised brows ,large black nose ,low set ears ,strong muscled clean neck leading into his super front assembly and straight forelegs ,excellent tight cat like feet .very pleasing in spring of rib ,sternum ,depth to his chest and excellent hindquarters ,he was presented in first class condition ,coat and colour was pristine ,he moved very well with his straight free flowing movement coming and going and in profile .considered him for RCC was unlucky to meet my first place in top form , well done

1/ RICHARDSON ,MRS L A -- BLUESPRINGS NOW IM HERE AT FORRESTFIRE --- very handsome in head ,kind expressive eye and low set ears. Superb over his neck and shoulders flowing into his well sprung rib ,excellent rear angulation ,short in hocks , good finish to his well-muscled croup ,overall, a very nicely proportioned and very well constructed dog ,another excellent mover coming and going and in profile presented in good coat and condition .

  

2/ BAYNE , MR G C & MRS JJ --- CORRANROO CELTIC STORM – another good example of the breed but felt on the day he was carrying some excess weight , beautiful refined head lots of chiselling ,dark unshelled almond eye , low set ears hanging close to his skull .well off in the bone department ,correct length of neck ,showing elegance ,strong topline ,good in croup and superb tail set ,strong in rear pastern moved very well in all departments but on the day I just thought he was carrying a bit of excess weight today which held him back .

1/ WILLIS ,MR W J & MRS J S --- GWENDARIFF THE GRAND MASTER AT JACWILINS ---- I have admired this 4 .5 year old boy and was happy he came under me today ,excellent in appearance and on the move and on the stand , an upstanding male in every way pleasing head with correct planes ,excellent chiselling around his lovely dark eye ,well set ears of good length hanging close to his skull ,nice clean arch to his strong lean neck that flowed into his withers . well angulated shoulders, his front was straight and well boned ,good depth to his chest ,ribs well sprung ,loin well coupled and strong ,good width to his upper thigh giving him balance , he possessed a gently slopping topline which led into his superb tail set ,groomed and presented very well , on the moved he moved well but felt he rolled a bit due to carrying to much weight which disappointed me greatly as it held him back for top honours today .

  

2/ PYM ,BOTT & MILLIGAN BOTT ,MRS S, MR J & MRS D --- THENDARA MARSHMELLO {JW} --- there’s a lot to like about this fella very stylish and dripping into coat which we have come to expect from his kennel , he has a super racy outline and is very well balanced and full of quality , super in head planes ,raised brow and a lovely expressive eye ,his muscular neck flows into a lovely topline and superb front assembly ,excellent length to his upper arm ,his rear quarters are wide and powerful he was presented in top class coat and condition a credit to his owner / handler , just felt when it came down to my places today he was not his usual in your face self

1/ ELLRICH ,MISS – GWENDARIFF ABSOLUTLEY MARWE’LLUS {IKC} ---- well what can I say that’s not already been said about this boy I have know doubt he was the star of the day for me ,stood away in sheer quality ,a joy to go over this boy is full of breed type and his overall balance is very hard to fault or deny ,his head is masculine ,long and lean and balanced with a lovely expression with a lovely kind dark eye he has fantastic work in his head I just loved .he is so correct in front with excellent upper arm angulation ,excellent reach of neck flowing over his withers into a gently sloping topline ,he is well ribbed and deep chested ,he has well defined quarters and muscle tone , well off for bone and the best of feet small very firm toes strong and close this dog came alive when it came to moving him , coming on going and on profile he was a picture on its own moving with power and drive and animation , his muscle tone is outstanding and a testament to his schooling and exercise ,shown in full bloom and possesses the most wonderful coat and colour ,very at one with his handler and shown to advantage ,an outstanding example of the breed and what’s required in the show ring today , it gave me great pleasure in awarding him the CC and ultimately the top honour of BEST IN SHOW the pleasure was all mines and thanks for entering this beautiful male under me today , AND IT WAS TO ME DELIGHT TO FIND OUT LATER THIS WAS HIS CROWING 3RD CC MAKING HIM A CHAMPION WELL DONE IM SURE MANY MORE LIE AHEAD .

1/ STURROCK , MRS S & MISSES N&J --- FORFARIAN FANCY ME – 6 month old baby at her first show and loved her a little star in the making ,loved her for type the prettiest of heads with beautiful dark eye and melting expression ,good head carriage and arch of neck ,very clean outline , everything where it should be ,good width to her quarters nice tight feet, still very raw but when she moved she went with power and drive and animation which is very typical to her breeding as her Dam is also a fantastic mover and it looks like she will be following in her dams footsteps going forward handled to advantage .I’ll be watching her progress as im sure a bright future lies ahead, very pleased to award BEST PUPPY BITCH AND ULTIMATLY BEST PUPPY IN SHOW .

  

2 DANKS – KEMISH ,MRS R D – ALOLFRANA ELECTRA – another 6 months old baby and she had similar qualities to my first place could easy swap places on an other day , she was also well behaved and at one with her handler , lovely feminine head with dark eyes ,well set on ears ,good length of neck & angulated shoulders ,moved with animation and style around the ring for such a baby one ill watch going forward.

2/ BORTHWICK , MRS C – DANWISH ARIA -- 10 month old bitch ,she presents a lovely clean outline with a very feminine head and dark eyes with quizzical raised brows and low set ears ,clean strong neck into her maturing front assembly and straight forelegs ,nice depth of chest at this stage , just felt she needs to drop into her rear end but I’m sure it will come as she’s just a baby , shown in good condition and all her furnishings are coming through just nicely for age .

1/ STEVENSONS ,MR G & MRS C --- LOCHLORIEN TRUE DETECTIVE IS ANDLEY ---- 9 year old bitch surely enjoyed her day out shown in great coat and condition ,a credit to her owner ,pretty head ,nice finish to her foreface ,sweetest of expressions and nice to see the grey speckling to her adorable face ,her eyes were of the correct colour and shape ,low set ears hanging close to her skull ,she is a very elegant bitch and makes a lovely picture when stood ,very balanced and not overdone ,she had a gently sloping topline from her withers to her tail , good construction throughout ,she moved very well and true for her years very at one with her handler pleased to award her BEST VETERAN BITCH .

 

2/ JONES , MRS S A --- ALOLFRANA IN A HOT STORM OVER WENFLAEN {ATC ATO1319905} -- pleasing outline feminine head ,low set ears ,clean neck ran smoothly into her good front assembly , she posed a super strong flowing topline and tail set ,good overall body proportions shown in good condition unfortunately never moved as well as my first place but I’m sure she enjoyed her day .

1/ CIECHONSKA ,MISS EVA -- GWENDARIFF DON’T LOOK BACK AOIBHEANNE – an excellent class of young promising bitches but this young 17-5 months lady won it out the park full of breed type and qualities , there was so much to like about her from her free flowing movement coming and going and in profile ,she has a typical feminine head and expression correct dark unshelled almond eyes, low set ears hanging close to her skull ,good length of neck leading smoothly into a maturing front and straight fore-legs and lovely tight cat like feet .i liked her very rich chestnut colour coat which is coming through very well ,her body was compact with good depth to her chest ,and spring of rib ,her hindquarters were very strong and powerful, moved very well with power and drive and animation a very promising young lady indeed .

  

2/ ROBINSON , MRS M & MR D ---- CHERRORVALE DREAM COME TRUE -- a 13 month old very promising bitch just gave a bit away in age today but a lot to like just the same ,liked her pretty head and expression ,lovely in outline , she is so balanced without exaggeration , gently slopping topline which she held on the move ,nicely constructed both front and rear with straight forelegs ,correct width to front with a pronounced sternum ,good return to upper arm ,decent depth to chest and spring of rib ,moderate length of neck fitting well into her shoulders ,she had great balance of rib to loin which was slightly arched and muscular ,good muscle tone to her thighs ,nice bend of stifle and short hocks , moved ok thought she had lost a bit of sparkle today which held her back today.

2/ BRIDGEWATER , MR W & MRS D ---- BRIDGELLAS JUBILEE QUEEN {JW} ---- 2 year old bitch who was very appealing in size and type ,pleasing head and expression ,good eye shape and colour .raised brow ,clean through neck into good layback of shoulder and return of upper arm ,deep well sprung ribs ,would have liked them carried a bit further back ,loin in proportion and strong ,well-muscled hindquarters with short rear pasterns allowing drive moved soundly .

1/ HOLLEY ,MRS J ---- GWENDARIFF THISTLE BE JILLS AT WYNJILL ---- 2.5 YEAR OLD BITCH another full of breed type and substance , so much to admire , her head is pretty with excellent raised brows and dark unshelled almond shaped eyes ,she has good length to her foreface and clean in throat ,a cracking set of shoulders fine at the points well laid and lengthy ,she has a good fore chest and good length of upper arm ,straight sinewy fore legs ,elbows tucked in nicely and tight ,excellent topline and croup , good deep ribs carried well back , her rear is well muscled wide and powerful which she used to her advantage on the move ,her head carriage and tail carriage was so typical to this wonderful breed ,very at one with her handler presented in super hard condition considered her for top honours today but felt she lost her sparkle in the challenge .

  

2/ HUNTER AND BROWN MS & MR W --- GLENCARRON ANOTHER CHAPTER AT BRIADMOUNT --- another quality bitch liked her for type construction and size she is very well constructed scored well for front and rear angulation ,good bend of stifle and width to first and second thigh ,nice length from hip to hock ,beautiful head with lovely quizzical expression ,moved with power and drive and covered the ground holding her topline and tail very wel,l shown in first class coat and condition .

2/ HENDERSON ,MS M ---- SAMETSUZ PILLOWTALK --- balanced in her head piece with equal length to her foreface and skull excellent chiselling through her foreface and dark well shaped eyes and raised brow ,her clean neck fitted smoothly into her good layback of shoulder and return of upper arm , her topline flowed gently into her strong well-muscled croup and excellent tail set ,her well sprung ribs were carried well back ,wide hindquarters and adequate bend of stifle ,she stands on good strong rear pasterns allowing excellent drive ,she presents a flowing picture , and moved very well covering the ground effortlessly .

1/ BOUTTELL & BUBRIDGE ,MISS H K & MR J A ---- IXIA SNOW VIXEN ---- refined and lovely girl ,she has the most exquisite head ,dark expressive eye ,lovely raised brow ,lovely dome to skull just enough stop and flew ,arched neck flowing smoothly into well laid shoulders , correct slopping topline and tail set ,good wide hindquarters and a good bend of stifle and excellent from hock to heel ,she posed a rich chestnut coat and was presented in first class condition , she came alive on the move and went with such elegant ease holding her topline with her lovely free flowing movement great in front and extension and at the rear when viewed at all times another at one with her handler and handled to advantage .

  

2/ HALL , MR PETER ---- HARREDS LILLIE ---- she has a nice finish to her foreface and correct head planes nice dark eye with raised brows and low set ears ,she has a moderately long neck with good front assembly good spring of rib giving plenty heart room and arched through her well-muscled loin well set on tail ,good rear angulation and well-muscled first and second thigh moved well with power and drive shown in excellent coat and condition .

1/ WATT ,MR JA – SHENANAGAN HALF A SIXPENCE --- my surprise of the day ,balanced and full of quality ,full of breed type ,she has the most feminine of heads ,its long and lean and has a lovely expression and the neatest of ears which are set well on her head and close to her skull , beautifully crested neck which flows into her super shoulders her topline is faultless and her croup was strong and well-muscled , she has the best matured deep body with excellent ribbing which were carried well back ,her hindquarters strong and powerful ,shapely and well let down in hock with good muscle and width to her first and second thigh .she moved very well coming and going and a picture in profile movement ,presented in full coat and fantastic coat and condition she was very at one with her excellent handler I was very pleased to award her the RCC it was very much deserved well done RCC

  

2/ ROBINSON & ROWBOTTOM , MR D & MRS M & & MR G ----- LANSTARA RED DRESS AT CHERRORVALE {AVO1247006} ---- another quality bitch with a lovely refined head with a dark eye with a soft expression .she has a moderate long neck into well laid shoulders and return of forearm with good fore chest and great depth to her chest .well sprung ribs carried well back super gently slopping topline from her withers to her excellent tail set ,she is nicely arched through the loin with good rear angulation and nice wide rear hindquarter’s her hocks were strong and well let down , moved well with power and drive shown in super coat and condition .

1/ GWENDARIFF CHILLI POWDER --- JONES MRS L S --- another star of the day this was the first time I had put my hands on this lady and she did not disappoint very much the finished article ,she has the most eye catching racy outline with the required gentle sloping topline her head is balanced and well proportioned with lots of work in her foreface and correct finish to her muzzle, dark well shaped eyes and raised brow with the ever changing look of sweetness to full of mischief , she has super feminine head and crested neck of proportionate length set cleanly into long well laid shoulders and equal length to upper arm ,her ribs were well sprung and well back through to strong loin ,a very good finish to her croup and wide well bent hindquarters ,short strong rear pasterns and well off for bone ., her feet were small and very firm toes strong ,close together and arched ,she really came alive on the move coming and going and on profile showing zest for life and never lost her reach or drive or topline ,her tail never stopped lashing very at one with her handler very easy to see she only had eyes for her handler and aiming to please I was so happy to award her the CC and ultimately best opposite sex and RESERVE BEST IN SHOW and I was thrilled to here later this was her third and crowning CC well done .

2/ STERRITT ,MRS G --- IRISH SH CH CORRANROO JUST ONE KISS WITH RIVERSETT {CJ W18 JUN} --- elegant and eye catching shown in wonderful condition with a rich gleaming coat ,different in head from winner but equally refined ,long and lean and well balanced ,great reach ,firm slopping topline ,strong croup ,used her tail well on the move and moved with good power and drive shown in excellent coat and condition .
