I will be honest and this was not the strongest depth of quality Grands I’ve judged with a huge variation in shapes and sizes.

Sadly head pieces are going backwards to where some look like pbgvs in the skull and have too short a muzzle.. we will have a variety of leg and body lengths which is fine as long as they remain balanced but a few are too low on leg and the most worrying thing for me is crooked forelegs, the breed has never allowed this unlike in the early years pbgvs could have it, now they dont and there is hardly any that do. So I was very alarmed to feel 4 or 5 that don’t have straight forelegs . It’s a breed point that’s so very important in my opinion. On a positive note, coats were good and also rear angulation was excellent, moderate is what is called for and not a big bend of stifle like pbgv. A few questionable mouths that need monitoring along with a few that a diet wouldn’t do them any harm, temperaments were very good and despite this preamble which may come across negative I really enjoyed evaluating the entry. I was a lovely touch to give a minutes silence to the First Lady of Grands Viv Phillips who we sadly lost earlier this year. She would have been looking down on us all on Saturday and for sure would be picking my brains after I had finished, she always championed breed type above all else and as breeders and judges of this lovely breed we owe it to ourselves to preserve and hopefully improve the breed in the right direction..

That said I was very happy with my principle winners who look like the breed and are capable of a days work..

Well proportioned head piece, large nose, ears low set and folded, little flat in skull, eyes could be darker, straight forelegs, firm topline with high set tail, dense flat harsh coat, moderate rear angulation, places his front well on the move, still needs to come up on leg a little.

Class 52 JD (1 Entries) Abs: 0

1st: 151 BUCHANAN, Mrs Fiona & MACLAREN, Mr Michael Tarmachan Robiola

Masculine noble headed dog, correct length of foreface, super low set ears, slightly domed skull, defined occiput. moderate angles front and back with good bone and substance, super length to his tail, liked his carriage, excellent harsh jacket, Nice type and has a typical elastic gait, will improve with maturity.

1st: 146 BROWN, Miss S & BROWN, Mr C & BROWN, Mrs L Claela Sweet Dreams Ir Jun Ch

Houndy head with correct length of muzzle, lean slightly domed skull. Ears well folded, eyes light and a little full for ideal, strong bone, doesn’t have straight forelegs and for me he could have more leg length, firm topline, high set tail, dense coat. Uses his rear but prefer better proportions

1st: 152 COOPER, Miss C & O'BRIEN, Miss E & O'BRIEN, Miss K Jayanel Royal Affair At Katillien

Upstanding masculine dog with excellent proportions, detailed head piece with good length of muzzle and a real noble look to him Oval dark eyes ,strong neck of good length , super long folded ears, good bone with excellent stright forelegs, big ribs, level back, muscled loin, correct harsh jack, coat little longer for ideal long tail set high and carried in a sabre like fashion. Moderate rear with low set hocks. Lots to like and was happy to award him the CC which made this clever handler very happy as it was his 3rd CC..

Class 57 OD (6 Entries) Abs: 1

1st: 154 HUIKESHOVEN, Mrs. Anouk & HUIKESHOVEN, Mrs Gwen Snowball V. Tumtums Vriendjes

Very mixed class of shapes and sizes, winner was best for balance and proportions, super masculine head with a lovely expression to him, domed skull, excellent long ears, could have more fill in front, good bone, firm topline with ex coat texture and nicely presented , strong thick tail, has width in rear with moderate angulation. Nice profile movement and i liked his type. Pushed hard for the CC but had to give way to the limit winner today.

2nd: 164 PEARCE, Miss R & HUGHES, Mr David & MILTON, Mrs B Wilmit Kevin With Demorner

I liked his leg length and body shape, correct length to his muzzle. Low set ears, straight forelegs, correct coat, could have more width in rear on move. Nice type but for ideal he could use his tail better, hardh coat, has good breed parts but preferred carriage and style on winner.

Class 58 VD (1 Entries) Abs: 0

1st: 144 BAILEY, Mr Robert & YATES, Mr Andrew Ch Ir Ch Tarmachan Ice Cool

Solid framed low slung dog, has length to his muzzle, a little flat in skull, folded ears. Moderate neck but prefer better lay of shoulder and neater elbows. Good bone, ribs of fair length, correct moderate rear, high set tail, steady mover, ideally like a fraction more leg length for finished look

Class 59 PB (2 Entries) Abs: 0

1st: 165 ROBERTS, Mrs A Tarmachan D'ora Ligure

Nicely proportioned bitch, lean skull with prominent occiput, low set ears, moderate neck with good bone and substance, ribs of fair length, still to drop in her rear a little but liked her type and style, for sure she will improve, pushed hard for BP but wasn’t using her tail as much as I would have liked.

2nd: 162 O’DAY, Miss Amanda Tarmachan Toscanello

Taller framed than 1 and still needs to develop in body compared to 1, long ears, ok muzzle length but is too flat in skull for ideal, straight forelegs, firm topline , good rear and whilst she uses herself on the move I just preferred type on 1, she will be slower to mature with her frame then 1 and will be better in a couple of years I feel.

Class 60 JB NO ENTRIES

Class 61 YB (2 Entries) Abs: 0

1st: 145 BAILEY, Mr Robert & YATES, Mr Andrew Wilmit Mirabelle For Bonevon

Has good substance to her in a lower framed bitch, pleasing head with good pigment, large nose, low set folded ears, strong neck, well sprung ribs with good length, moderate angles, dense harsh coat, thick tail, steady mover.

2nd: 153 HAMLYN, Ms Sarah & ALTMAN, Ms Deborah Claela Bonny At Morn With Soleildor

Clean neck and backline, would prfer a more grand like head piece as a little too flat in skull and could be longer in muzzle, has fill in front with good bone, tail of fair length, a little straight in stifle, has good density to her harsh coat throughout. Steady mover but preferred shape on 1

Class 63 PGB (1 Entries) Abs: 0

1st: 155 KNOWLES, Mrs Hilary & METSELAAR-WILLIAMS, Mrs J Wilmit Marquise Avec Braillement

A very honest typey bitch from head to tail, moderate , not extreme with correct proportions to her, correct size, she needs to fill in ribbing but i love her look, holds her topline long tail, elastic free gait with a high set sabe tail, excellent footfall. Her cost is harsh but not dense currently, I felt she was one of the best for type here today and had she been in better body and a finished show look I could have easily given her top honours.

Class 64 LB NO ENTRIES

Class 65 OB (6 Entries) Abs: 0

1st: 161 MILTON, Mrs B Ch Wilmit Jugeote

Quality bitch, very good example of the breed, strength substance whilst keeping her moderate and unexaggerated look throughout. Detailed head piece with a defined stop and lean skull, nicely cut away under eyes, long ears, super body, ribs and chest, holds her topline and i l loved her on the move, sound action and driving rear with her tail carried as the breed asks for in a sable like fashion and 10.2 carriage. Harsh coat and presented correctly.. CC and BOB

2nd: 149 BUCHANAN, Mrs Fiona & MACLAREN, Mr Michael Ch Tarmachan Clootie Dumpling

Another honest typey bitch, balanced head piece, super ears, has length to her muzzle, straight forelegs, just preferred shoulder on 1, firm topline, strong tail of good length. Moderate rear, Excellent coat texture and of a flat structure. 2 nice bitches, just a slightly different type to .

1st: 163 O’DAY, Miss Amanda & BUCHANAN, Mrs Fiona & MACLA Tarmachan Black Ice WW18

Typey bitch, nicely proportioned body and legs, feminine head, muzzle could be longer, ears low set with nice fold, strong neck, stright forelegs. Correct moderate rear, long tail, uses her rear well on the move in profile. Ideally like more width in rear moving , corretc coat texture, nice condition and lots to like, pretty sure I’ve judged her before and she is in good shape for a veteran, a worthy champion
