Welsh Kennel Club

Breed: BIS, BPIS, BVIS
BIS Welsh Kennel club is one of those shows you mark on the calendar every year as a must go to event with its unique grounds, great atmosphere and a well round event. This year proved no different, in fact even better knowing I had the lovely responsibility to decide BIS, BPIS and BVIS over the 4 days. Sadly this is Ann and Graham’s final year as joint secretary, a role they have done for 23 years and a fine job they have done with a super committee, and nice to see a few younger members which can only bode well for the future.. I have been very fortunate to have judged BIS on 3 previous occasions in the UK and without sounding like an old cliche this was the best I have done with the depth in quality right through.. I had just 6 to evaluate as the Pastoral group winner BLANCE, Miss N L & BLANCE, Mrs C B - Ch Penliath Bill Me Later (ai) - WELSH CORGI has a dog from me who we have shared handling over the last 12mths as well as being a good friend. We spoke after she had won the group and both were in total agreement that a lap of honour was the right thing to do, putting friendship to one side she is a lovely corgi and fully deserves all the winning she is doing, for sure would have made a full complement of top quality group winners making it an even tougher decision to decide the winner. The Newfoundland BLAKE, Ms S - Ch Sandbears Masterpiece - NEWFOUNDLAND is a very honest dog, he has a clean neck and backline with an excellent chest, ribs and construction, has strength without being coarse, tail of correct length and really covers the ground well in profile. The Pharaoh Hound,HANSEN, Mr Simon Tien & STARK, Mr Richard & STARK, - Bazinga Make Love Not War, a feminine well headed bitch with level head plains and of fair length, lean neck, nicely proportioned with a straight topline, moderate built and paints a nice picture standing. The pointer,SIDDLE, Miss Amelia & SIDDLE, Mrs Annette & MEDEIR - Wilchrimane Frankly Darlin who was my gundog group winner the day before and loved her just as much in the BIS ring as I had done in the group. She has the classic graceful outline, on her tiptoes ready to go at any moment, feminine detailed head piece with a kind expression. On the move she is so smooth and precise with her lashing tail. A quality bitch. The Akita,BEVIS, Ms F & BEVIS, C & CORR, R & VENEZIA, K - Ch Stecal's All Guns Blazing, I have previously given this dog a CC as a youngster and can easily say he has matured and grown into a very impressive dog, he has substance and strength with power right through, masculine in head with super ears and set on, small dark eyes, his shape and proportions are so correct and he is in tip top condition. A powerful mover and completely at one with his talented handler. So my RBIS was the Chinese Crested bitch, DUNLOP, Mr Robert - Ch Habiba Hold My Purse. I have been a long admirer of this top quality bitch and today I got to go over her, she does not disappoint in any way,I loved her balanced head, chiseled cheeks with those almost black eyes she has, large low set ears, long graceful neck, excellent shape to her, she is so elegant on the move with a great stride with her flowing plumed tail, now having gone on over her I can fully see what she has won what she has. Now to my BIS winner, the Irish Terrier, HALLEY BAUMGARTNER, Mrs Pauline Françoise Marthe - Tuscan Red Varvara, The easy thing to do is roll out the breed standard from her head to her tail and elaborate parts along the way. The reality is I just loved her, I really couldn’t take my eyes off her when she was on the table, her head is so nice with beautiful dark eyes and length to her skull, excellent to go over with straight forlegs and her racy outline which is as near perfect from head through neck, topline and tail as you will see on a dog. Shown at the correct pace and the harsh coat is put down to absolute perfection. She was the dog I would have taken home today for sure.. Judging dogs is a pleasure but judging great dogs like this lineup today is an honour. A day and dogs I wont forget. BPIS Judging pups is so much fun and there is always that hope and anticipation that you get to see the next big winner when grown up. I had a lovely selection of youngsters to go over. My winner was a beautiful Lhasa Apso, HALL, Miss M D & BELL, Mrs H M & ELLIS, Mrs S M Shenedene The Gambler With Vallena, a very collected and well balanced typey dog, his skull is masculine but not overdone with the correct level foreface and a super width of jaw, arched neck with a body well set and nicely constructed all through, high set tail, on the move he displays the typical jaunty movement with excellent footfall, lovely coat and condition, nice to be told afterwards I gave his father a CC who I felt was a very good example of he breed so nice to see he can produce as well. RBPIS was the Border Terrier, Mrs J Guvercin - Forest Zpod Chlumskych Haju Glebeheath (Cze Imp) This young guy is just a very honest unexaggerated moderate dog, he never put a foot wrong, has some strength to his muzzle, expressive dark eyes, very good straight forelegs with ribs of fair length,an excellent harsh jacket and in great condition. I’m sure like the Lhasa they will both be future champions. BVIS Good to see the oldies getting their time in the main ring each day and i was a little spoilt for choice with the final 7. The winner was the Schipperke,Miss L & J McLachlan & Mrs K Morrison & PLOU - Am Ch Multi Ch Fullmoon Makin Mischief (imp Usa), alert and on her toes at all times which gave her the edge, she never stopped showing. I liked her head piece with a foxy like expression, strong not overdone arched neck to go with her compact body, she holds her shape at all times and is in fantastic condition, like my other winners she is true in front and has that bit of style and presence to make you give her a second look which gave her the top spot. RBVIS was the Cocker spaniel, I Hillier & Mrs S Hillier - Sh Ch Coedcernyw Calendar Girl JW. I judged her the day before and awarded her 2nd in the gundog group, the standard asks for a merry, sturdy and sporting dog, well this is what she is, a super example of the breed, well constructed throughout, excellent ribcage and short loin giving her the correct cobby body, her tail never stopped wagging showing she still loves doing this and like my winner is so true from all angles, a very nice example of the breed.
