Gundog Society Of Wales
For my first time judging GSP’s with CC’s I could not have asked for a better show, super atmosphere, great committee and overall a lovely entry of quality dogs.
I make no apology for my regular use of the word balance, as a working gundog breed these animals need balanced angulation ie. the front closely matching the rear in order to have an easy fluent and efficient ground covering gait. Balance of bone and substance, ie. well developed muscle and substance in the body without the correct bone density would again prove tiring and inefficient in the field.
Only one other point to note as an observer of the breed I noted that some were lacking the required compact rounded feet and well arched toes, with some closing in on a hare foot, breeders must be careful not to lose these minor characteristics which together make a whole picture.
DOGS
Minor Puppy dog (1 entries)
1st: Smith’ “Venatur Forest” what a stunning baby this is, everything in the right place and at just the right stage of development. shape and outline correct for the breed, head developing nicely, pleasing eye and expression, strong muzzle with correct depth of flew, correct bite, strength in neck and good lay of shoulder, well balanced bone and substance, compact back and firm loin giving him a nice topline, angulation in the rear closely matching the front so gave him a well balanced side gait, still a little loose when coming and going but as should be expected at this age, I will watch him with interest.
Puppy dog (2 entries)
