CRITIQUE FOR BOURNEMOUTH CHAMPIONSHIP SHOW 2024

STAFFORDSHIRE BULL TERRIERS

Well I’ll start by congratulating the exhibitors present today for showing the upmost care for their charges here today, in what was by for the hottest day of the year, far from ideal for an outdoor dog show, the inside covered bit of the ring was far too small to do any form of fair assessing in, so we had to compromise the best we could and utilise the shade it gave the best way possible. Again, to your credit I was unaware of any exhibit in any duress in the ring at any time during judging. Thank you very much for your entries, patience and understanding.

Class 1488 MPD (1 Entries) Abs: 0

1st: 3275 DUFFIELD, Mrs M & MANSELL-DUFFIELD, Mr T Sharmara Lacrnum Inflamari Red with white blaze and fabulous pigmentation, his head is of a classical shape with neat enough ears and a well set eye , his front is straight with enough width at this stage of his development , balanced in side profile, with everything in proportion, decent rear and carried his tail correctly on the move. Nice puppy.

Class 1489 PD (2 Entries) Abs: 0

1st: 3323 ROBINSON, Mr H & ROBINSON, Mrs M A & ROBINSON-COX Hamason Sweet Little Mystery Top sized puppy of attractive Brindle and White coat markings, he’s well off for bone and balanced in profile, his front is straight with enough width, typical head shape with correct ratios, flowing body lines past a well placed shoulder, he has a good spring of rib and quarters that are coming nicely , on the move his profile remains as it should and it in turn produced a powerful gait. BPD

2nd: 3253 BENNETT, Ms Sarah Farlenium's Kingpin Brindle & White slightly smaller in stature than 1st but his front and side profiles present a decent picture with good balance, straight in front, with a well shaped head, a tad short in the muzzle though, he’s presented in fine order and moved around the ring with ease.

Class 1490 JD (5 Entries) Abs: 1

1st: 3314 MOORCROFT, Mrs Natalie Ellchansha Charm The Devil At Moorstar Blk Brdl loved this exhibits shape and outline on first inspection and I wasn’t to be proved wrong on further examination, his head is well shaped without being overdone and is well balanced with the rest of him, loved his front assembly , straight with good width and a slight turn out of the feet from the pastern, his depth of body to leg length ratio looks correct as does his rib and length of back, he has a powerful rear that is well developed , when sent around his profile holds well and I saw a very true and typical breed gait, free flowing and effortless, RCC. Exciting times ahead I’d think.

2nd: 3294 JOHNSON, Mrs K & Mr M Tillcarr Fire Soldier JW another Blk Brdl exhibit that without rolling out the old “holds many of the same attributes as 1st”cliche he actually does!, he’s a slightly smaller package all round though but not undercooked in any aspect, he was always pushing 1st close until he was asked to go round, I saw enough controlled movement to know he was sound and well angulated front and rear, but in a competition of small margins he couldn’t quite hold it together long enough here today, a very tidy dog who will surely contest with the best with a bit more maturity.

3rd: 3299 KIRK, Miss Georgia & ROCHELLE, Mr Tyler & ROCHELLE Kirstaff God Of Thunder Rich Red coloured exhibit that stood a tad taller at the shoulder than his two predecessors , he has a smart and clean skull shape, nice flowing lines with a decent profile viewed side on, I found him a little tight across his front and would do well with more condition to him for my mind, that said, he carries decent type with a good gait.

Class 1491 YD (4 Entries) Abs: 0

1st: 3302 LLOYD, Mrs Angela & LLOYD, Mr Scott Kalostaff Es Lo Que Es JW Blk Brdl exhibit standing at a hight within standard, presenting a good profile front on and again in profile, well off for bone and substance without coarseness, his front is straight and of a good width, classic shaped head with good ratios, clean flow from head through the shoulder to a good rib cage, short backed and well developed rear. He’s presented in super condition and when asked to move everything stays where it should which secured him this class today.

2nd: 3281 GREEN, Mr S Sikaistaff Black Barrel At Cocostaff Jw Blk Brdl slightly lighter in stature than 1st but that’s not to say he lacking in any way, he carries good type and shape, beautiful shaped head with neat well set ears, when viewed from above you can appreciate his shape is of the desired proportions, unfortunately he was let down by his lack of physical conditioning here today, he has the tools to certainly trouble some of the best with a bit of work, sound on the move, a tidy dog.

3rd: 3271 DAWE, Mrs Anne Marstaff Butch Cassidy Red with nice pigmentation, he’s a top sized exhibit carrying good breed type, he has a grand head piece with round eye, straight front, well off for rib, I thought him a tad long cast but he produced a sound and typical movement on the go around

A nice all round dog.

2nd: 3276 DURELL, Mr Steven & DURELL, Mrs Xenia Hamason Greatest Showman JW Red with White, he’s a slightly heavier set exhibit than 1st placed but he too stands within the desired height range, his front is straight and well boned with good width, a grand head piece on him with neat well set ears, viewed from above his neck line flows towards a well sprung rib which, is unfortunately disguised by a tad excess of covering for me today, on the move his profile is well maintained and correct front and rear angulation is apparent.

3rd: 3316 NORRIS, Mr Anthony Labrastaf Magma At Haidastaff Brdl exhibit with a pleasing profile front and side on, he has a tight fitting jacket to him as he is presented in pristine condition, tidy enough head with straight front, good rib and short coupled into very well developed rear, on his toes and moving with drive from that powerful rear.

Class 1496 LD (7 Entries) Abs: 1

1st: 3285 HART, Mrs A & HALIFAX, Mr S Jackstaff Made A Boy For Albermarbull white with red markings, I found him to be a very striking exhibit on first inspection whilst stood, he’s at the top end of where we like to be height wise, but, every bit of him is balanced and in proportion, classical shaped head, great cheek development and well set, neat ears give him a look that screams “Stafford”, his substance and bone balance him throughout, a front construction to really aspire to these days, both straight, with width and correct length of upper arm and a slight turn outwards of his feet from the pasterns, well ribbed and tucked well in the loin, good thigh development, watch this dog move, he exudes breed typical movement, nothing has to try and get out of the way of anything else, he’s true and sound in gait, he reproduced it again in the blazing midday heat in the dog challenge and to my mind wasn’t to be beaten today. CC

2nd: 3320 REYNOLDS, Mr Garry & REYNOLDS, Mrs Susan Niatona Wreck It Ralph Red with white exhibit of slightly smaller stature of 1st placed, a fine Stafford, beautiful sculptured head that again screams breed type at you, his front is well set and of great proportion although the eye can be thrown by the shape of his white blaze, he has flowing lines, from the neck down the length of his body, short in the coupling and well developed rear on his well bent stifle, a picture of power when moving, he didn’t quite manage to hold it together as he can today, I’ve thought well of him in the past as a judge and saw nothing to change my mind today.

3rd: 3341 WILSON, Mrs K, Miss J & Mr S Northstaff Nightmare JW a Blk Brdl exhibit carrying a good type, he stands a pretty top standard height at the withers, balanced throughout , moved out well I would liked to have a bit more conditioning to him to really push 1 &2, but, again, a nice package of a dog to go over.

Class 1497 OD (6 Entries) Abs: 0

1st: 3258 BUTLER, Mr D & BUTLER, Mrs T Alport On Tour At Eternalco Blk Brdl standard size at the shoulder and I’d hazard a guess weight wise too, nothing of any extreme about this dog, he’s presented as a well balanced package, a clean well-shaped head with the neatest of ears and a round, well placed dark eye, good front, its straight and his elbows are placed well to produce a flowing line between the legs and neck, body wise he’s well ribbed and short enough in the back, great rear development, on the move he produces a decent picture, he had enough to secure this class but I just didn’t get the positive performance from him I was looking for in the challenge, tidy dog.

2nd: 3327 SHELDON, Miss Lara Ch Kamaristaffs Royal Ransom At Bowtman Jw another Blk Brdl , standing at a pretty standard height, presents a square profile when viewed from the side with good proportioned ratios, his head is pronounced and powerful, straight in front and body wise he has nothing lacking, deep rib, short coupled and a very well developed rear with a well set tail. On the move I didn’t quite get a free flowing picture and preferred the more positive fore of 1st placed, another very tidy dog.

3rd: 3331 THOMAS, Mr G, Mr C & Mrs C & GRIFFITHS, Mrs G Ch Gazstaff's Black Magic completing a trio of very typey Blk Brdl exhibits , I have though highly of him in the past as a judge at various levels in the show world, although giving away a few years to the first two here he retains all his virtue and spark for life, he is a good standard height, size and shape in profile, true in the front, grand head with tidy ears. He presented in fine shape, on the move he was a tad erratic but pushed all the way in the intense heat of the day to secure his place.
