Midland Counties Canine Society

Breed: Brittany
Thank you very much to Midland Counties Canine Society for my 1st Championship Show judging appointment (no CC’s) & to all the exhibitors for entering under me; I had a most enjoyable day. Also, thank you to both of my stewards who were a great help. I was delighted with my large entry of Brittanys & very happy with the overall soundness of the dogs & bitches. I was looking for the typical breed type; the square shape, correct length of leg, deep chest, head in proportion to the body, an intelligent & attentive expression coupled with upward movement at the base of the ears giving rise to the true “Brittany expression”. It was good to see that many exhibits demonstrated the brisk, short stride retaining their toppling on the move with the correct “little rear extension”. DOGS Puppy Dog (0,0) Junior Dog (3,0) 1st. Cutler’s Jayricnbrits Uncle Jake B/W roan on the shoulder area, chest & front legs, deep chest, ribcage well rounded, good length of leg. Just 12months old. Skull slightly rounded as seen from the front, side & above. Tight lips. Correct ear set used well. Neck of medium length well set into shoulders. Flash of white on head & muzzle adds to his soft, intelligent expression. Eyes oval & slightly obliquely set. Moderate bend of stifle, thighs broad & strong. Moved well when settled & good top line on the move. Dense flat coat & appealing feathering. Stood square & was a strong challenger for BOB. BD. 2nd. Axtell’s Umberto De La Riviere Ouareau. Another square, cobby dog mainly black with less white roan compared to the 1st dog. 17 months old. Broader head. Substantial bone, deep chest & ribcage well rounded. Short back with loin short & strong. Moderate bend of stifle. Excellent movement round the ring keeping top line level. Stood square in outline. Just preferred the head of the 1st dog. RD 3rd. Molton’s Jayricnbrits Uther At Braebrits Post Graduate Dog (2,0) 1st. Jones’s Rochus Take Action. B/W roan tailed dog. Finer built, slightly longer in body & elegant looking dog. Medium length neck set smoothly to the shoulders. Head in proportion to the body. Eyes round rather than oblique. Excellent movement with handler. Tail set high & lively when on the move. SB 2nd. Anderson & Haigh Rochus Take By Storm B/W dog, litter brother to 1. Square dog, deep chest, ribcage well rounded. Correct front & rear angulation. Skull slightly rounded as seen from the front, side & above. Very expressive. Correct ear set used well. Lost out on 1st placing due to “skipping” on the move. Open Dog (1,1) Veteran Dog (2,2) Special Beginners Dog (1,0) 1st. Jones’s Rochus Take Action. Puppy Bitch (1,0) 1st Dixon’s Violette De Karanlouan Tricolour just over 7 months old. Pretty bitch, quite nervous. Fine bitch, long in body. Muzzle is long in proportion to the skull & very long ears. Moved well for handler for one so young. Needs time to develop. BP Junior Bitch (4,0) 1st Jayricnbrits Unctious At Braebits O/W cobby bitch, litter sister to BD. Deep chest, very well rounded & good length of leg. Well muscled body & thighs.
