Boston & District Canine Society

Breed: Norfolk Terrier

Many thanks to Leila and her committee for inviting me to give CCs in this breed for the first time. I was delighted with the quantity and quality of the exhibits. Also, I was pleased some of my top winners were shortlisted/placed in the Terrier groups. The showground was superb, it was a very well-organized show and I had excellent stewards.

MINOR PUPPY DOG (3)

1. Thompson-Morgan’s Tinkave in The Groove with Belleville NAF. A very promising 6-month-old dog puppy, full of character and fun. Very good head. Broad skull, well-set ears and well-defined stop. Super set of large teeth. Body well-constructed with fore chest developing well and nice turn of stifle.

2. Daws & Toms’ Jaeva Party Boy. Similar age, but a completely different style. He did not have such a defined stop, giving the impression of a longer muzzle. Appeared longer on leg and longer in body. Very good mouth. Correct coat coming nicely.

PUPPY DOG (2)

1. Thompson-Morgan’s Belleville Hope Alert. A super mature young puppy dog, full of potential. A lively youngster with an excellent temperament, full of fun and mischief, showing himself off to advantage. Giving the correct balanced outline, well-proportioned head, dark eyes and correct bite. Ears well set, medium length neck, well laid shoulders, good fore chest, nice spring of ribs, carried well back. Level topline, short back, well set tail on angulated hindquarters. Moved well when settled. A harsh jacket finished the picture. Will watch with interest. BEST PUPPY.

2. Jenkins’ Kinsridge Sticky Wicket. Not so mature as above and coat not so well grown. But a nice type to be expected from this kennel. Pleasing head and expression, good ears, correct bite. His back appeared a little longer. Movement was OK.

JUNIOR DOG (1)

1. Davis’ Watercroft Cosmic Dust. A balanced and well-proportioned head, with broad skull, well set ears and correct length of muzzle. Dark oval eyes gave a kind but keen expression. Compact and cobby body, standing on well boned limbs. Good hindquarters and short hocks. Coat of excellent harsh texture.

YEARLING DOG (2)

Both dogs were lovely in every way, as expected from these kennels.

1. Thompson-Morgan’s Belleville Infamous Colin. I felt on the day this dog just had that extra presence, but both very nice. He was such ‘an eye catcher’ and such a showman, displaying himself so well. He is full of type, masculine throughout and never stopped showing. Super, correctly proportioned head with slightly rounded, broad skull, well placed ears and endearing expression. Correct length of brisket and ribs well sprung, with a firm level topline. Strong rear, showing a good bend of stifle and low set hocks. Super tail set, enhancing his topline. Moved out cleanly, showing great power of propulsion. Good harsh jacket. RESERVE DOG CC.

2. Gee’s Watercroft Tiger Feet. Similar comments apply to this very nice dog, who is masculine and balanced. He had a good head, correct width of skull, well placed ears, dark oval eyes, with a kind but keen expression. Medium length strong neck, well laid shoulders, cobby body, deep brisket, well sprung ribcage, correct length of rib and strong loin, level topline. Standing on well boned limbs and rounded feet. He moved well. Coat in good condition and of the correct texture.

POST GRADUATE DOG (3)

1. Smith’s Javidel May You Never. A very attractive, richly coloured red dog of good type and substance. Beautifully constructed, well balanced, showing off a super outline. Lovely well-proportioned head, with good ear carriage, well defined stop and dark kind eyes. Large, strong teeth. Good length of neck, well developed fore chest, depth of brisket and level firm topline. Stifles well bent and good width of thighs. This aided animated movement with good propulsion.

2. Wren’s Jaeva Strut Your Stuff. Well presented dog with a pleasing cobby outline. Super balanced head. Broad skull, slightly rounded, lovely well-set ears and oval dark eyes, giving an endearing expression. Good body and bone. Holds a firm level topline ending in a well set on tail. Strong hindquarters, providing good movement.

3. Jones’ Jaeva Raising Hell.

LIMIT DOG (1)

1. Gee’s Watercroft Moon Dust JW. A very smart blue and tan dog, compact and short backed, balanced and in proportion, with good bone. Super head with broad skull, correct length of muzzle and good bite. Lovely strong neck, well laid shoulders, deep chest and good fore chest. Ribs carried well back and level topline. Hindquarters well-muscled with a good turn of stifle. Aiding him to drive around the ring with purpose. Good tail set. Excellent hard, wiry coat.

OPEN DOG (1)

1. Thompson-Morgan’s Belleville Playmate. Absolutely lovely, explains him well. Eye catching and quality. Very smart and full of character. He is a compact, sturdy dog with good bone and substance, presenting a lovely outline. Super masculine head of correct proportions. Broad, slightly rounded skull and strong muzzle. Neat well-placed ears and dark expressive eyes. Correct length of neck flowing into well placed shoulders. Firm, level topline. Lovely spring of ribs, short loin, and strong hindquarters. Moved very well with drive from the rear. Put down in super condition with a good hard, wiry coat. DOG CC.

SPECIAL BEGINNERS DOG (1)

1. Wren’s Jaeva Strut Your Stuff. As above. So pleased to watch him go Group 2 in the Special Beginners Terrier Group. BEST SPECIAL BEGINNERS.

PUPPY BITCH (3)

1. Thompson-Morgan’s Belleville Full of Hope. I considered this bitch puppy to be the best out of the three presented. I felt she had the best head, with a broad skull and good ear placement. She was compact with a short back, good substance and bone. She was well muscled, had the correct hard, wiry coat coming and moved very well.

2. Gee’s Watercroft Calamity Jane. Initially, I thought this one was going to be my winner. But, after closer examination, I preferred the head of the above and I felt she was not so well muscled. She moved extremely well. Otherwise very nice.

3. Tate’s Jaeva Ring Tone TAF. I hope this one will grow on, but so immature at present. She was nice and such a ‘sweetie.’

JUNIOR BITCH (2)

1. Dragon & Tate’s Noragad’s Royal Flush with Jaeva. Very smart 16-month-old blue and tan bitch, with lovely personality and super outline. Meeting the standard well. She has a very nice feminine head, of correct shape and proportions. Well set ears and expressive eyes. Good length of neck and nice development of fore chest. Clean and straight front onto tight feet. Compact body, with short, level, strong back, giving a super topline. Strong, well-muscled hindquarters, which she used to give very good movement. Presented well.

2. Jenkin’s Krisma Sunbeam for Kinsridge. A different type. The standard states compact and short backed, but I thought this bitch was a bit too ‘stuffy’ for me, which was a shame. She did not show herself off so well, with the personality and style of the bitch above. Nothing wrong with her, just not a true showgirl.

YEARLING BITCH (2)

1. Gee’s Watercroft Crafty Monkey. Aptly named, 19-month-old red bitch, who was absolutely gorgeous. Showing herself off, which makes such a difference to the outline. Truly a small, low, keen dog, compact and strong, short backed, good substance and bone, with a lovable disposition. She presented a super balanced outline. Lovely head, with slightly rounded broad skull, well placed ears, distinct stop, strong muzzle, dark eyes and the correct bite. Good neck, straight front legs, well laid shoulders, deep brisket, well sprung ribcage, ribs carried well back and short loins. Level topline, well-muscled hindquarters with good turn of stifle, hocks well let down. Wonderful smooth, free-moving, effortless movement. Good reach and drive from the front and propulsion from the rear. Beautifully presented with hard, wiry coat of good condition. BITCH CC & BEST OF BREED.

2. Jenkin’s Kinsridge Pocket Money. A very nice pretty example of a Norfolk, as expected from this kennel. Just over 18 months old and not so mature, compared with the bitch above. Not so much style and muscle development. But a good type.

POST GRADUATE BITCH (1)

1. Jones’ Jaeva Runner Duck. Another bitch of good type. Attractive head with broad skull, well set ears, distinct stop, expressive eyes and correct dentition. Well-muscled hindquarters, resulting in good movement. Lovely deep red coat with good texture.

LIMIT BITCH (2)

1. Smith’s Javidel Handmayds Tale. A good bitch, nothing flashy, but everything OK. Showing true Norfolk attributes, of small, low dog, compact, short backed, with good substance and bone. Well proportioned head, distinct stop, broad skull and strong muzzle. Good ear placement and oval, dark eyes. Good, well-balanced body and well-set tail. Moved OK. Super rich red colored coat of correct hard, wiry condition.

2. Cooper’s Settrenda Saucy Style. I liked her size and femininity. Pleasing head, being nicely balanced and proportionated, with good width to the skull, distinct stop and dark oval eyes. She is keen and alert in her demeanor. Moving a little close behind on the day. Presented with good coat texture.

OPEN BITCH (4)

1. Gee’s Ch Watercroft Back in A Jiffy. A super blue and tan bitch of nearly 2 years old. Very nice in every way and fits the breed standard very well. Compact and strong, short backed, with good substance and bone, producing a lovely balanced outline. Excellent head of correct proportions. Slightly rounded broad skull, distinct stop and strong muzzle. Well placed ears, dark eyes and correct bite. Super straight, strong forelegs. Good length of neck, flowing into well laid shoulders, deep chest, well sprung ribcage and strong loin. Level topline. Well-muscled hindquarters, good turn of stifle and well let down hocks. Moved with excellent reach and drive. Well set tail. Coat in good condition of hard, wiry texture. Showing herself off as a very attractive and well put together bitch. RESERVE BITCH CC.

2. Macartney’s Ivrig Dancing in The Sun. Heading towards 7 years old. A very good all-round Norfolk Terrier bitch of reasonable quality. Correct head. Moved quite well and had an excellent hard, wiry textured coat.
