Breed: Special Awards

The Weimaraner Association Championship Show Special Awards Classes on Sunday 5th May 2024.

I would like to extend my gratitude to the committee for the very kind invitation to judge at this show and my very competent stewards, Julie and Gillian, for keeping everything running smoothly. I also give my thanks to the exhibitors for bringing their lovely dogs under me today and accepting my decisions so sportingly. Many of my decisions were split by a hair, and it was a pleasure to go over so many exceptional dogs.

The Mick Heap Special Award Junior Dog/Bitch (8,3)

1st Moore’s Theondale Mave The Rave At Cavalmist. At just 12 months old, this pretty bitch is showing lots of promise. She has excellent balance and correct proportions which I feel so many are lacking these days. She has a feminine head, the loveliest of ears and a moderately long neck which flows smoothly into well laid shoulders over strong forelegs and very good feet. Her chest is well developed and her ribs extend well back to a short firm loin. I liked her angles fore and aft and thought she is well made from tip to toe. Moved well.

2nd Hill’s Weipowa Double O’seven JW. An outstanding medium sized young male of a different type altogether than 1. Presented in hard, muscular condition he moved smoothly and effortlessly around the ring and was shown in a beautiful pale silver coat. He struck me as very balanced and at a little over 12 months nothing is overdone, he is maturing very nicely indeed. A handsome head with all the desired attributes, well laid shoulders, a level topline and correct slightly sloping croup. Well developed chest, great front and rear assembly and excellent feet. I’m sure he has a very bright future.

The Tony Burgoin Special Award Open Dog/Bitch (9, 3)

1st Morris & Randall’s Kalimor Dottie JW. My notes say ‘Pizazz!’, this nearly 3 year old bitch certainly has plenty of style about her. She has a pretty head with correct proportions, set on a clean cut neck over well laid shoulders and excellent front assembly. Her chest is deep and well developed, and her forelegs are straight and strong. She has the correct 12:10 proportions. Her ribs extend well back under a level topline and she has a short, firm loin. Her strong hindquarters allowed her to power around the ring where she had no trouble covering the ground.

2nd Bennett’s Cavalmist Cosworth. This medium sized all male 5 year old filled my eye with a picture of strength and balance, he is shown in fabulous condition and moved at one with his runner showing off his effortless stride. He is very handsome and has a beautiful head with correct median line, kind eye and good ears. He has a well developed chest, with his elbow meeting his brisket, well sprung ribs and a good topline. Excellent angles fore and aft and truly excellent feet.

Special Award Champion Dog/Bitch (3,1)

1st West’s Sh Ch Gunalt Wavelength JW. A well balanced, feminine bitch with an appealing expression. Correct head with desired median line and well set ears sitting on a lovely clean neck which flows down into fabulous shoulders. Her front assembly is good and she is well ribbed with a strong topline and short firm loin. She has well muscled and moderately angulated hind quarters with good, tidy feet. She moved very well.

2nd Tierney’s Sh Ch Gunalt Elderflower At Greyfurs JW Many of the same comments for 1 apply to this young bitch, although she is of a slightly darker shade and perhaps a little lighter in frame. I later discovered that they are full sisters a year apart. She has the same pretty head, sweet expression and eye, moderately long neck, same overall balance with good proportions and angulation. She moved well but her older sister just pipped her to the post in this class.
