Breed: Lancashire Heeler
The National Dog Show Birmingham Dog Show Society Ltd 10/05/2024 Lancashire Heelers I would like to take this opportunity to thank the society for inviting me to judge. The whole experience was an absolute pleasure, with special thanks to committee members Tracey and Helen who were so cheerful and helpful, they really took care of everyone. My grateful thanks also to ring stewards Ralph and Pamela for their efficiency in keeping the ring operating smoothly and for all their help. Lastly I would like to thank the exhibitors for entering and bringing your dogs, it was very much appreciated. All the dogs were shown in good condition, dentition was excellent in all exhibits as were temperaments. Coats were all harsh with one exception but seasonal shedding was in full swing, with the girls definitely suffering more. One or two could benefit from a little more ring craft which affected their placings but overall I was very happy indeed with my main winners, I hope you all enjoyed the day as much as I did. Special Beginners Dog (4,1) 1st. Hughes, Poolheywood Barney. A lovely dog to start the day, absolutely at one with his handler he powered round the ring like he owned it. At 22 months I feel he still has a lot of maturing to do, at the moment he’s a little long in loin but hopefully that will change as he bodies up. Strong masculine head on this chap, good angulation both front and rear with the harshest of coats. His movement won him the class. 2nd. Thomas, Skipest Winter Blues. He took my eye when he entered the ring, not least because he was smiling at me. He has the handsomest of heads and expression, super wide skull and depth of muzzle. His very good front with excellent ribbing, short coupled body and good angulation is a picture. He just needs time to mentally mature to get his movement sorted out, he did much better in the PG class. At 19 months he has time on his side. 3rd. Simonsville Fenwick. MPD (1,1) PD (No entries) JD (No entries) Post Graduate Dog (4,0) 1st. Lagonegro, Lankeela Kristi And Eeyore. 2 year old liver and tan with a very mature body. Loved his head, wide flat skull with excellent parallel planes from skull to muzzle. Very good spring of rib combined with short coupling. I particularly liked his well muscled rear end which gave him excellent movement keeping his topline firm as he moved. Harshest of coats and deepest colour of liver which shone with good condition. 2nd. Hughes, Poolheywood Barney. Winner of SBD, see above. 3rd. Skipest Winter Blues. Limit Dog (1,0) 1st. Dawes, Leyeside Mister Pinhaw At Daweslean. I first judged this dog in 2019 when he was a junior and gave him RBD. I liked him then and still do now, he’s matured into a super not quite 3 year old dog, who is still eye catching in every way. He is a strong powerful dog who looks fit enough to work all day and night. Well muscled with bone and substance a plenty, he powered round the ring. Loved his head, so masculine, he used his ears well. Super shoulders and ribbing which extended well back to very well muscled hindquarters. His topline was firm both standing and on the move, pleased to award him the RCC. Open Dog (3,0) 1st. Thwaite & Hayes, Ch Ribblespride Crakemoor. My notes say, goosebumps! I’ve admired this lad many times before but today he absolutely blew me away. His outline is just stunning and his topline is never anything but absolutely firm and level. He is now 5 years old and at the peak of maturity. From his attractive head with dark almond shaped eyes to his well laid shoulders and well sprung ribs combined with that close coupled deep body, I could find no fault. I understand from his handler he’s been on a fitness course, he’s certainly very well muscled and fit. Thrilled to award him the CC and BOB and ecstatic to see him short listed in the group, congratulations, thank you for bringing him. 2nd. Whiteman, Madincrowd Edred. Another dog I’ve judged before as a puppy who has matured beautifully at now 5 years old. Different in type to 1 but nevertheless he is very pleasing to the eye. Slightly longer in body to 1, liked his head with his gentle expression and the darkest well shaped eyes. His ribbing extends well back to muscular hindquarters with good angulation to shoulders and stifles. He just lost a little sparkle in the line up for best dog. 3rd. Ch Lankeela You Go Boss At Foveaux JW Veteran Dog (1,0) 1st. Fairest, Ch Henson Fairest Lad. At 8 years old he can still give the young lads a run for their money. Strong dog, very masculine and another with a lovely head. Super forechest with excellent ribbing leading to his well muscled loin and hindquarters, lovely to go over, he is in excellent condition. Another who powered easily round the ring, it was a pleasure to see him gait with such style. He does unfortunately sometimes lose his topline when standing, nevertheless he is a cracking dog. Special Beginners Bitch (4,1) 1st. Budd, Tudorbrook Hocus Pocus. This 2 year old very feminine bitch was presented with a gleaming coat. Such a beautiful head with the gentlest of expression and darkest of eyes. Her skull had good width tapering towards her nose and with her well used ears gave her that lovely foxy look. Super outline when standing, good ribbing which extended well back, she moved nicely out and back, really good for type. Pleased to award her Best Special Beginner. 2nd. Budd, Parabar Primrosa. Very shapely girl of 2 years perhaps not showing at her best today. Loved her forechest and lay of shoulders, very deep body with close coupling but would like more turn of stifle as she appeared a little bum high at times. Lots to like though especially that deep liver coat presented in gleaming order. 3rd. Selestar Lemon Drizzle. Minor Puppy Bitch (2,0) 1st. Davies, Parabar Posy’s Pocahontas Piparlo. 7 month old well bodied girl, very shapely for her young age with lots of confidence and sparkle. Pleasant head with good width to her skull and nice depth to her muzzle. So well off for bone and substance, she took the eye with her outline and moved well. Lost a little concentration in the bitch line up but she can be forgiven for that, as she put in a good days showing. A bright future awaits for this little one I believe, pleased to award her Best Puppy. 2nd. Griffin, Droversrock Tigers Eye. At just 6 months and 1 day old this sweet girl was a little shy on the table but overall did very well at her first show. Much less mature in body than 1 but nevertheless she will hopefully body up and look a little less long. She had good width to her skull, used her ears well and her coat was in beautiful condition, another liver who was deep in colour and harsh in texture. Look forward to seeing how she progresses. Puppy Bitch (1,0) 1st. Griffin, Droversrock Tigers Eye. 2nd in MPB, see above. Junior Bitch (3,2) 1st Nicholas & Langford, Arenite Versu. 12 months old and just out of puppy. Very pleasing for shape, another well bodied youngster. Very feminine head, lovely wide flat skull with excellent parallel planes. She was a little down on her pasterns in front which I’m sure will firm up as she matures. Elbows tucked nicely against a well sprung rib cage which extended well back. Very good angulation, she was nicely muscled throughout and moved so very well. Beautifully handled and already a good show girl. Another one I’ll be watching progress with interest. Post Graduate Bitch (4,2) 1st. Budd, Tudorbrook Hocus Pocus. Winner of Special Beginners Bitch, see above. 2nd. Fairest, Skipest Summer Breeze. 18 month old bitch who took my eye and very nearly won the class, I just preferred the overall maturity and outline of 1 today. She excels in head and expression and uses her ears to perfection. Very feminine throughout, beautiful front, loved her little forechest. Good spring of rib and close coupling. The firmest of toplines, she ticks all the boxes and I’m sure will come into her own, just out of coat a little today but I do like her very much. Limit Bitch (6,0) 1st. Felstead, Foveaux Queens Gambit JW. What a little stunner and showgirl! Shown so well by her handler she excelled in type. The firmest of toplines, she always stood four square and kept that topline rigid whilst on the move. The prettiest head, so feminine throughout with a good forechest, excellent shoulder angulation and elbows tucked neatly against her ribs. Nice deep body, good underline with stifles well turned and muscular throughout. Her gleaming coat which was harsh completed the picture. She moved around the ring effortlessly and it was a pleasure to award her the CC. Her handler informed me it was her 3rd, very well deserved. 2nd. Davies, Taigwynion Freya Sadie In Ronleydon. This 3 year old girl has the most attractive deepest colour liver coat I’ve ever seen with the most lovely eye shade too, not too light. Presented in excellent condition she could perhaps have a slightly better spring of rib but she is very pleasing to the eye. Lovely head with alert expression using her ears well. Good reach of neck and well angulated hindquarters. She moved briskly, it was a pleasure to watch her gait. 3rd. Parabar Perfec Paws. Open Bitch (3,0) 1st. Creasey, Vittador Gold Dust For Leyeside. I just loved her sassy attitude, she made me chuckle. Standing still is not her forte however I saw enough to be convinced this young girl is quality throughout. Very close to my bitch CC winner, she excelled in type. Always standing four square when she stood still, with the firmest of toplines. It was on the move she was harder to assess as she put a whole new spin on brisk but from what I saw, she moved well as expected. Pretty head, cheeky expression and the darkest eyes, so feminine and mature in body with her well spring ribs and close coupling. Very well muscled throughout, I liked her very much. Pleased to award her the RCC and was very surprised she isn’t already a champion, I’m sure it won’t be very long before she is. 2nd. Thwaite &Hayes, Ch Ribblespride Ladytron. 6 year old bitch that again excels for type but was out of coat today. Loved her overall shape, so well balanced. Pretty feminine head and expression. Well boned with a good front and elbows firmly against her body. Lovely angulation of both shoulder and stifle, she was just a little wide in front on movement but overall she covered the ground effortlessly. 3rd. Ch Selestar Salix Lutea With Foveaux. Veteran Bitch (2,0) 1st. Huck, Ch Leyeside Miss Bonnie. At 10 years old this beautiful bitch just exudes quality. Well bodied, perhaps carrying a little extra weight but aren’t we all as we mature. She is outstanding for type and temperament. Lovely feminine head, good width to her skull with very expressive dark almond shaped eyes. So well balanced which shows in her movement and despite her advancing years she still ticks all my boxes. Pleased to award her Best Veteran, thank you for bringing her. 2nd. Whiteman, Ch Madincrowd Bathsheba JW. Another 10 year old that belies her age, different in type to 1 but she’s still a quality bitch. A little down on her pasterns, she however moved briskly and with style. She has a lovely head but would just prefer a deeper muzzle, well ribbed, good angulation to stifles and the best coat of the day. Judge: Elaine Syrett
