Breed: Irish Wolfhound
Thank you to the committee of the Scottish Kennel Club for inviting me to judge, and very well done for successfully hosting two Championships Shows in one day! Thank you to my two stewards, Kevin and Mo, who worked tirelessly throughout the two shows. I was pleased with my entry and winners today, thank you all for accepting my decisions with good grace. PUPPY DOG 1 1st McNulty, Mrs L Wyldwensley Kes Shapely, well-grown 9-month-old, light brindle youngster, with a lot to appreciate. He is well boned with lots of scope. Masculine head that is nicely furnished. Strong, reachy neck fits smoothly into a decent shoulder placement, he has good depth of brisket and infill for age, with strength and breadth to loin. He is balanced in rear, with fair width to thighs, and low set hocks. Nicely handled, just moving a little close in rear at present. BP POST GRADUATE DOG 6 (3) 1st Pantoja, Miss E Killoughery Rockafella Balanced and nicely proportioned, this powerfully built 3-year-old grey brindle male caught my eye when he entered the ring. Masculine head of correct planes, with super furnishings, dark oval eyes and well-held rosed ears. Loved his strong, elegantly arched neck that flowed smoothly into well-placed shoulders, with good return of upper arm, and elbows well under. Deep in brisket with a well-ribbed back and a broad, gracefully arched, muscular loin. Shapely, rear quarters with good width to pelvis. Presented in excellent condition, beautifully handled on a loose lead, showing his natural gait. Best Dog & RBOB 2nd Wendell, Mr T Barrassay Spitfire Substantial, well grown 2-year-old brindle male. Typical, masculine head with plenty of furnishings and well-held ears. Strong neck into fair shoulder placement, would just prefer a better return of upper arm. He has great depth of chest, allowing for plenty of heart and lung room, with a broad, muscular back and gentle rise over his loin. Ample width to thighs with strong, straight hocks. Steady and free mover around the ring. OPEN DOG 3 (2) 1st Anderson, Mrs C C & White, Mrs A M Whitglen the Real Thing Upstanding 3-year-old dark brindle male shown in super muscular condition. Strong, masculine head that is well balanced with strength to under-jaw and correct dentition. Long, powerful neck flows into well laid shoulders, sound, straight forelegs with correct spring to pasterns and large, well arched feet. He has a super depth of chest; his back is well ribbed with a gentle curve of croup and correct tail set. Rear quarters are well muscled with good bend of stifle and width to 2nd thigh. Pleasing side gait, just wasn’t as positive in rear movement as you would expect from his powerful hind quarters. Res Best Dog SPECIAL BEGINNERS DOG 4 (2) 1st McNulty, Mrs L Wyldwensley Kes (see puppy dog for critique) 2nd Say, Mrs J Lynelouper Lamshaw’s Fancy Tall, 2-year-old brindle male. Large, masculine head with dark eyes, and strong dentition. Muscular neck into fair shoulder placement, he has good depth of chest, with ribs well back, just a shade long in the loin. Balanced in rear, ideally would like more development of 2nd thigh, but he is young and still developing. Just needs to tighten up in his movement. He gave his gallant handler a run for his money. PUPPY BITCH 2 (1) 1st Allison, Ms K & Falconer, Mr D N Stonestorm Morven 9-month-old red brindle bitch, still has a long way to develop and is slightly bum high at present. Sweetest of heads with dark, expressive eyes and small, well-held rosed ears. Good length of neck into fair front assembly, but just standing a little upright in pasterns. Her back is well-ribbed and has the correct amount of spring. In lovely muscular condition for her age, with good width to rear and low set hocks. Enjoyed her day in the ring. POST GRADUATE BITCH 4 (1) 1st Veres, Mr S & Sandro, Ms I Draconecrome Aldis Shapely 20-month-old wheaten bitch. Feminine head with dark eyes and pigmentation. Balanced angulation front and rear, with good dept and width to brisket, ribs well- back and a broad, muscular loin. She has width to her rear with strong, low set hocks. Pleasing side gait, just moving a little wide in front. 2nd Say, Mrs J Lynelouper’s Little Shiels 2-year-old tall, rangy brindle bitch. Feminine head of equal planes, with dark oval eyes, and beautifully rosed ears. Strong, powerful neck fits into a fair shoulder placement, just a tad short in upper arm. Her chest is deep and well ribbed, with a broad, muscular loin. Shown in harsh coat. OPEN BITCH 3 (1) 1st Heather, Miss W Ch Whiteorchard Ad Astra JW Quality 3-year-old brindle bitch of excellent proportions. Beautiful, feminine head with the darkest of eyes, small, rosed ears and wonderful furnishings. Her strong, gracefully arched neck fits seamlessly into a super front assembly, with good return of upper arm. She is well off for bone, with correct spring to pasterns and large, well-arched feet. Plenty of width all throughout, with a capacious chest and super curvy underline. Powerful rear quarters with width to second thigh and parallel, low set hocks. Purposeful movement around the ring, showing reach and drive, accurate with her footfall. Best Bitch & BOB. 2nd Allison, Ms K & Falconer, Mr D N Tarlog Diura of Stonestorm Strong, 4-year-old red brindle workmanlike bitch. She has length to her skull and strength to muzzle, with dark, oval eyes and well-held, rosed ears. Good length of neck into decent shoulder placement, she is well developed in forechest, her back is well-ribbed, but just a touch long in the loin. Shapely in rear with fair width to thighs, and broad, strong hocks. Would like to see her carrying a little less weight.
