This show holds many memories for me; being one of the very first championship shows I ever attended many years ago. I would like to thank the officers and committee for inviting me to judge and to the exhibitors for their support. It is some time since I last judged the breed; temperaments were excellent and dogs were well presented with no excessive trimming. Breed type continues to be mixed and care should be taken to focus on not just overall construction but the breed specific features as these are things which are much more challenging to reintroduce once lost. One last point; as working dogs they should have good strong feet with nice short nails; somewhat lacking today I felt.

1st Bartley’s Erylan Poseidon De La Mer JW 15 mth tricolour male; presents masculine profile with plenty of substance, to be critical I would like a little less of him. Nice head, correct skull shape with dark eye giving a cheeky expression, good ears, set well of correct length & texture. Decent front assembly, nice feet and sufficient rib with a strong loin giving level topline which he keeps on the move, carrying tail correctly. Good harsh coat, moves well out & back and in profile. RCC & BJIB

1st Allen & Gilluley’s Ballencrieff Figgy Pudding Mature workmanlike dog; nice petit head with dark eye and lovely leathers; set on well. Good forechest and front assembly, decent feet, ribs ok, good angulation at rear and in good muscular condition, lovely harsh coat of correct texture, moves with purpose when settled which won him the class. Tail is ok but he could do with just a bit more confidence on the move.

2nd Wyllie’s Callydena Michael Mc Entire Masculine Mature male of 4 yrs, of a different type to 1. Decent headpiece, dark eye, good ears. Front assembly is ok, ribs ok but carrying too much weight which spoils things and makes him quite stuffy. Reasonable angulation at rear; decent tail of correct length and set on well, moves well if a little erratic at times.

Class 57 Open Dog 3,0,3 Three very different dogs but for me the breed type and size of 1 was typical of the breed and he would be capable to hunt all day.

1st Lewin’s CH Soletrader Special Effect For Vynesbrook JW Typey young male, petit all through and of correct size and proportions. Lovely head of correct shape, sufficient stop and well defined occipital point; nice dark eye & lovely expression, good ears; set on well and with a nice inwards curl. Straight forelegs, good feet, ribbed well back and with nice strong loin; level topline and tail set on well carried correctly. Good harsh coat. Decent rear angulation, in muscular condition which shows on the move with typical busy petit movement using his tail; CC.

2nd Scott’s Overbecks Tommy Shelby Different type to 1, masculine head with darkest of eye and lovely leathers. Nicely made throughout ribs extending well back and with a nice strong loin; good angulation at rear with nicely muscled inner thigh. In good muscular condition and in presented well. Would prefer a slightly better tailset and a bit more animation on the move.

1st Bartley’s Erylan Loki Maitre Du Mal Masculine dog presenting an imposing profile; decent head shape with sufficient stop and nice dark eye giving lovely expression. Straight forelegs, with plenty of bone, well made throughout, decent rib and strength of loin, decent angulation at rear; in lovely coat and condition, just carrying a bit of weight over his front but a credit to his owners. Moves well out and back and in profile, keeping his topline and with good tail carriage. BVIB

1st Wyllie’s Callydena Rachecco Just out of junior this is a promising youngster, of true petit type, prettiet of heads, nice dark eye and cheeky expression, lovely leathers, curling in and set well. Nice neck into shoulders, decent forelegs and feet. Ribs ok, would prefer a shorter loin. Good angulation at rear, lovely dinky tail which she uses well at all times, good coat of correct texture, moves out and back well and in profile using her tail all the time. RCC

Class 64 Post Graduate Bitch 1,0,1

1st Gilluley & Allen’s Ballencrieff Jingle Belle Mature bitch, feminine head, sufficient stop and prominent occiput, good eye and expression, tends to carry her ears quite high which can spoil the look when on the move. Front is ok, ribs are ok but a tad long in loin for me. Her overall construction is good with good feet and she is super sound out and back and in profile. Excellent coat of harsh texture and in good condition.

Class 65 Limit Bitch 1,0,1

1st Scott’s Overbecks Polly Gray feminine bitch presenting a nice balanced profile; feminine head, correct skull shape with dark eye and lovely expression, good ears set on well. Front assembly is okay but a little heavy over the shoulders; ribs ok and decent angles at rear with hocks well let down. Moves out and back well and carries her tail correctly. Good coat and condition.

Class 66 Open Bitch 3,1,2

1st Scott’s CH Soletrader Langham Rose For Overbecks Mature bitch who is of true petit breed type; lovely pretty head with correct proportions, the darkest of eye and lovely short leathers of correct texture. Well made throughout and with nice bone and super feet. Ribs well back and nice strong short loin giving her a lovely level topline; dinky little tail set on well and which never stops. Typical busy petit movement, with purpose and absolutely capable of a days hunting, a pleasure to award her CC and BOB.

2nd Wyllie’s Callydena Mowdie Miss Chief Another mature bitch, a bit finer in type than 1 . Feminine head, good expression, good ears. Front is ok, ribs ok but would prefer a shorter and stronger loin, well angled at rear, nice tail; set well and carried correctly. Good coat of correct texture. Moves nicely out and back.

Class 67 Veteran Bitch 3,0,3

1st Scott’s CH Overbecks Kathy Tierre Lovely mature bitch really enjoying her day out. Prettiest of head with lovely dark eye and good ears, set well. Front assembly is good, correctly placed shoulder and nice tight elbow; ribbed well back and strong loin; good rear angulation and in muscular condition which showed on the move. Nice coat, correct texture and absolutely won the class on her movement.

2nd Gilluley’s Caldewriver Legally Blonde Of Ballencrieff Another lovely lady, in her prime but not really enjoying her day out. Feminine head; sufficient stop; nice dark eye and good ears. Front assembly is good, ribbed well back with strong loin and muscular rear just not happy on the move today which is a shame as she is a super bitch.
