Welsh Springer Spaniel Club Of South Wales

I would like the WSSCSW for the invitation to judge today. I was blessed with a high quality of exhibits which made many of the decisions challenging. I thank the exhibitors for their gracious acceptance of my placings. None of the exhibits showed any sign of nervousness and this should be commended, nor any incorrect mouths. Some tail carriage were a little high and this tended to spoil the overall outline of the exhibits on he move. Delighted that myself and Moray were able to agree with all of the top placings.

V (4,1)1 Jones’ SH CH Julita Rumours at Trosley, well constructed girl evenly balanced and feminine throughout. Head of good proportion with well defined stop. correct bite, ears set low, enough chiselling, good pigment throughout. Balanced with good angulation shown in full bloom and presented in excellent condition. Moved well sound from all angles. 2 Whitfield’s Glenbrows Heart to Heart, Another veteran of good quality, softer feminine head and expression. Good layback of shoulders, scored in front assembly. Well muscled. Tail set well and carried correctly. Preferred topline of winner on the day.

SWB (1) 1 Sutherland’s SH CH Jacranella Sonata Stood alone but ever so worthy of the place. Loved the overall shape of this girl, welsh throughout. Flowing lines with a great topline and tail placement. Incredible strength of muscle. True on the move from all angles, a little wide in front, forgivable considering her age of 9 yrs. Loved seeing her free stood. Excelled in head with a soft expression, good eye shape and ear placement, starting to show a little greying in the coat.

MPB(2) Two very raw puppies that will need time to develop and mature. They seemed to enjoy their time in the ring being the exuberant puppies they should be.They both have a good future in/out of the ring and will no doubt change places over time. 1Smith’s Nyliram Hold My Hand at Isfryn. Quality puppy and even at this young age it is not hard to imagine the finished picture. Well proportioned skull with good eye and ear placement, flowing neck dropping into well set shoulders, good proportions throughout, scored in rear angulation. Very merry on the move once she got into her stride. BPB. 2 Lockie’s Gwirgariad Shooting Star. Very balanced feminine head with a sweet expression. A little further developed than class winner. With pleasing overall shape. Tail carried correctly and used to balance on the move. Much more settled in latter classes with a change of handler.

PB (1) 1Smith’s Nyliram /hold My Hand at Isfryn. JB (3) 1White & Diamond’s Roxdale Premier Rose An excitable young female in the teenager stage. Pretty foreface with kind eyes of correct shape. Dark pigment enhanced her expression. Well placed ears. Overall picture of balance, correct topline and starting to develop in body. Good rear angulation with well let down hocks. Merry on the move and with plenty of drive. 2 McIlwaine & Reynolds’ Ferndel Rebecca for Benoveor Smaller framed female remaining balanced in outline with good angulation in front and rear. Good depth of chest and tight elbows. Held topline on the move while covering the ground. Very tight feet with ample bone. Plenty of drive when moving powering from the rear.

YB (4) 1 Sutherland’s Jacranella Graceful I liked this female a lot and reminds me of Welsh that I have had in the past. She has a classic Welsh head with good dimensions overall. She has sufficient stop that enhances her appearance. She has a good reach of neck that flows into well set shoulders. Symmetrical throughout, with ample bone and tightest of feet. She has good depth of chest, flowing topline with correct tail placement with tail carried level to the back. On the move she is straight from all angles. Coming into maturity and furnishings coming through. Will no doubt be challenging for higher honours in due course. 2 Roxdale Moody Blue Female of a longer set than winner but remaining balanced. Pleasing and happy temperament. Balanced head, dark hazel eye with pleasing expression. Flowing topline rising over the loin, tail carried correctly and used to balance on the move covering the ground.

NB (2,1) 1 Smith’s Nyliram Hold My Hand at Isfryn

PGB (2) 1 Two completely different bitches both worthy of taking the class. Casey’s Tigerrock Amazing Grace, Pleasing head of good proportions with ample chiselling, good eye shape giving a soft expression. In profile, she is short coupled, with good balanced assembly front and rear and depth of brisket, lacking in furnishings but not detracting from her overall picture. On the move her tight feet enabled her to power around the ring. 2 Lockie’s Benoveor Truly to Gwirgariad Longer set that 1st, remaining feminine in outline. Softest of expression with a beautiful eye shape. Good length of neck that flowed into well set shoulders. Ample ribbing with strength into the loin. Used her tail on the move to complete the picture.

LB (5,4) 1 Morgan’s Benoveor Endless Love at Rubydown Female shown in full bloom and maturity. She has a feminine balanced head with correct eye and ear shape. Clean in throat and good length of neck. Compact body, Front angulation/construction was what I noted on the first examination. Well boned throughout with tight feet. Clean lines and proportions throughout. Carried tail correctly on the move and moved with purpose.

2. Johnston’s Nalydris Hakuna Matata a quality girl for me, a typical welsh head with lovely eye shape and colour and chiselling below the eye which gave her the softest of expressions. Clean throat and neck flowing into well placed shoulders. Good strong hind quarters and correct tail set. Well set hocks and moved sound and true. Disappointed I couldn't award higher.

OB (2) 1 Graham’s SH CH Nyliram Telling Tales JW ScCEx OSW in my opinion this female has the best of heads, well defined stop contributing to the sweetest expressions currently in the show ring. All lines flow from her head to the tip of her tail. She is feminine throughout and not overdone in any area. She excels in rear angulation, ample muscle with good length of hock. Well boned throughout and shown in peak condition. On the move she has ample reach and drive and uses her tail for balance. Thrilled to award her the CC which was her 30th. 2 Ferguson’s Julita Raindance at Teaselwood Another female in peak condition. A different type of head with chiselling under the eye that gave a soft expression. Well bodied throughout, excellent depth of chest with plenty of heart room.She was shown in full coat with ample feathering. Liked her forequarters and shoulder placement.

Mary Payne Stakes (4) Graham’s SH CH Nyliram The Moth Catcher JW. A female that I have always admired since a baby and she did not disappoint. Great pigment and the darkest of hazel eye colour. She is short coupled in outline and well proportioned with symmetrical construction throughout. Excellent tight feet and showing good reach. Powered around the ring covering the ground at a good pace, straight and true from all angles. RCC
