Breed: Siberian Husky

Siberian Husky Club of Great Britain Championship Show, April 2024.

Bitches

Firstly, a massive thanks to, the SHCGB committee for selecting me for this prestigious appointment to judge the breed at our national club show. Indeed such an honour for what will be my last appointment as I am retiring from judging. Thank you to all of the exhibitors who brought their lovely dogs for me to assess and took the placings with good grace. Such was the quality of many classes that some really lovely examples went home card less.

Thank you to my extremely efficient and helpful stewards on the day who kept me in check and of course to Chief Steward, Sarah Robinson, for making sure the process was followed.

Special Veteran (5 entries, 1 absent)

1. Smith - CH AMICAL SNOW WHITE VW.

Pure white, 12-year-old girl, with a super coat. Everything is in proportion with a feminine finely chiselled fox-like appearance to her head. Almond-shaped eyes, moderately spaced and set obliquely. Well arched neck. Good angulation of shoulders. Well-furred tail well set just below the level of the top line. Lovely free-flowing gait exhibiting good reach and drive.

2. Helford - SNOWTREKKA ENCHANTRESS.

Silver G/W. Another great example of the breed. Super bone lengths and angulation that are balanced front and rear, fabulous shoulder. Super top line, croup and lovely tail set. Has a lovely head with an excellent eye set. Out of coat today. Movement was very sound, out and back she is spot on, and she eats up the ring going around.

3. Winter & Unwin – SNOWTREKKA BEWITCHED JW VW.

Light G/W. Litter sister to 2nd and so alike in many ways. Another lovely girl with good shock absorbing pasterns, good shoulder, top line and croup. She is also very sound but seemed slightly unbalanced on the move today. Very well handled.

Veteran (13, 5a)

1. McInnes – CH HUSHWING HAPPY FEET AT INNESKA JW.

8-year-old Agouti with striking blue eyes. Super foxy head with correct almond shape eye. Good length of neck into well laid shoulders. Excellent proportions, good length of leg to body and nice length of back. Good level top line and slight arch to the loin with a good tail set and carriage. Super ground covering, free flowing movement. Just edged out the 2nd. BVB.

2. Bowering & Evans – PENKHALAS KASKA.

Another super girl, Grey& White with a gorgeous head and sweet, gentle expression with good ear shape, size and set. Great angulation and lay of shoulder. Very sound on the move and expertly handled. Very close to 1st.

3. Biddlecombe – KERIQUEL CLOUDLIGHT AT TSARITSA.

Yet another nice girl, light grey and white pie, blue eyes. Lovely foxy head with correct eye set and shape with an excellent ear set. Good neck and well laid shoulders and moved very well with reach and drive once settled. Handler had their work cut out to begin with but did brilliantly to control!

Minor Puppy (14, 0a). A very nice class of promising youngsters!

1. Freeman & Wakefield – SIBERIADRIFT HOCUS POCUS FOR ALOUSTAIR.

Agouti girl with a lovely outline on the stand. Good angulation and well laid shoulder which aided the super smooth movement for one so young. Well handled and definitely one to watch for the future! BPB.

2. Stanier – ARCTICTREK ORCA.

Another Agouti/Sepp coloured girl with nice head and sweet expression. Good angulation, nice sloping croup. Nice flowing movement but not quite as fluid as 1st. Another one to watch for the future.

3. March & Smith – TRAILHUNTERS RAVEN ROCK.

Grey & white with a feminine face and a pleasing, mischievous expression. Another with good angulation well laid shoulder and nice proportions. Moved very well once settled. Another promising youngster.

1. Leich, Leich & Koops – FORSTAL’S TIPSI.

Very feminine grey, white & sable young lady who shows great promise. Well laid shoulder, nice slope to croup, good feet. Moved with reach and drive and was very well handled as usual. Definitely one to watch for the future.

2. Simmons – FORSTAL’S ILSA OF AURORASDREAM.

Another youngster who shows promise. Physically similar to 1st and has many of her attributes. Today she was showing a very slight roach back on the stand but didn’t seem to affect her movement which was sound once she settled.

3. March & Smith – FORSTAL’S PUKI AT TRAILHUNTERS.

Yet another feminine example, wolf grey & white with all of the positive attributes of her litter sisters. Good angulations, nice arch over loin. Gave her handler a bit of a hard time today as she seemed very unsettled on the move.

Junior (10, 0a)

1. Spruce – MYSTICWOLF MO CUISHLE.

A pretty wolf grey & white girl with a typical head and is well balanced in terms of angulations both fore and aft. Correct sloping Croup. Super strong, fluid movement and handled extremely well.

2. Wakeling – MYDISA HIELAN PEELIE WAALY AT KLEWAGIN.

Blue eyed girl with balanced profile, pleasing head. Great angulations, well sprung rib and correct sloping croup. Moved freely and was sound in all departments. Well handled.

3. Sinclair – MYDISA HIELAN SASSIE LASS AT LESAMIAN.

Lovely grey & white litter sister to 2nd. All of the same attributes apply to this girl as well, nicely balanced, sweet typical head. Good eye set and shape. Good ear set and shape. Close thing between 2 and 3 today, she was just a little looser on the move for my liking.

Yearling (11, 1a)

1. Fletcher – SIBERIADRIFT BLUE LAGOON AT WHITEPEAK.

Very attractive young agouti girl. Nice foxy expression with excellent eye shape and set. Ears are high set. Very well laid shoulders. Lovely flowing movement from the side and true on the out and back. Very promising girl who will surely have a great future.

2. Cunningham – SIBERIADRIFT DARING MINX FROM ICEBEX JW.

Another promising agouti youngster. Another with a pretty feminine head with nice expression. Almond shaped eyes. High set ears. Moderate neck. Shoulders well laid, not quite as good as 1st, but I was nit picking! Very sound, light-footed mover and well handled. Another promising girl.

3. Caudy – ARCTICTREKS GOLDILOCKS AT SNODRAGON JW.

A pleasing sable & white young lady with a typical feminine head. A slightly wider ear set than the first two but that didn’t detract from her overall breed type. Moderately angulated but balanced, very steady on the out and back with flowing side gait. Well handled.

Novice (14, 3a)

1. Wakker – CEANNABEINNE’S FAST EDDI.

A stunning white bitch with such a feminine head with gorgeous eyes. Excellent high ear set. Excellent shoulders and upper arm. Very well-proportioned in height to length. Well carried tail. Nice shape to feet. Beautiful mover in profile and very well handled. Definitely one to watch for the future. Pushed hard for top honours today.

2. Johns – ALEPENKYE KIRBY MUXLOE.

Wolf grey & white girl, slightly finer than 1st but with all the same positive attributes. Moved with very good reach and drive and flowing gait. Well handled.

3. Hughes – SIBERIADRIFT DARING SAGE.

Another with a lovely correct fox shaped head. Good lay of shoulder. Lovely level topline both standing and on the move. Movement was just not quite as fluent as the first two, however she was expertly handled to bring out the best in her.

Post Graduate (18, 2a)

1. Allen & Wells – HARPAN’S TAIVAS – RCC.

I absolutely loved her! Solid black with attractive four white feet. Fantastic outline and shape with superb angulation. Perfect tail set and carriage. Lovely proportioned head with excellent eye shape and super ears. Moved with speed and grace with beautiful topline from side and very true out and back and handled very well. Loved everything about her and hope she goes onto greatness. Pleased to award the RCC.

Spowart – WULFENITE PIPPIN.

Very attractive agouti/Sepp coloured girl with a foxy head and piercing blue eyes. Good angulation, she took my eye as soon as she moved around with the others. Strong level topline, good feet and pasterns moved soundly and steady on side gait and out and back. Pushed hard for 1st.

2. Allen & Wells – HARPAN’S HALO.

Littermate to 1st. Much of the positive attributes are shared with her sister but I think that overall, she is slightly finer all round, but still in proportion. Moved well, once settled, handler was having a tough time to begin with. Definitely another to watch.

Limit (22, 4a)

1. McInnes – INNESKA BLACK PEARL.

Very pretty feminine, bi-eyed black & white girl with excellent head and expression. Great angulation. A smooth light-footed gait and totally true on the out and back. Liked her a lot and she should go far. Well handled as usual and presented in lovely pristine condition. Pushed hard for the green cards today.

2. Anderson – AZGARD PINKSTER TO URIAKIN.

Very pretty agouti girl with a lovely friendly face. Feminine head with good almond eyes and correctly set and well shaped ears. Medium arched neck, well laid-back shoulders and strong top line. Excellent angulation both front and rear giving a super side profile with great proportions. Such easy free flowing movement from the side and out and back, however seemed a bit lethargic today which made the difference. Very well handled.

3. Spruce – MYSTICWOLF DIESEL’S DREAM.

Another nice grey & white girl, blue eyes, appealing gentle expression. Standard fitting in most respects. Well presented and handled, well angulated with super outline, firm topline, nicely angled croup and correct tail carriage. Confident light-footed movement and very sound in the front and the rear. Unfortunate, to meet the first two today.

Open (15, 2a)

1. Goodwin – VALKYRIE SIWASH LEGEND (IMP CZE) – CC, RBIS.

There is so much to like about this monochromatic bitch, and I absolutely loved her. Beautiful feminine head and expression. She is a little shorter than some of the other exhibits, but everything is perfectly in proportion. Perfect almond shaped eyes, set obliquely. Ears are high set, alert, well-furred and of a lovely shape. Superbly well angulated fore and aft and perfect bone calibre for her size. Lovely sloping pasterns and correct shape to feet. Her topline is firm and she has a slight arch over the loin. Tail set and carriage are very good. Lovely fox brush. Presented in super condition and very well handled. Extremely sound mover who covers the ground with great ease and isn’t flashy at all. I loved her and could watch her move all day. Very, very pleased to award her the CC today and I really hope she goes on to achieving her title.

2. Platt – WIGHTFLIGHT EINICH.

This black & white girl simply powers around the ring. Finer all round than 1st and slightly longer in the back but very much in the same excellent category. Very nice feminine foxy head with almond shaped bi eyes and good well-set ears. Excellent front and rear angulation with a super side profile. Excellent feet. Her movement appears effortless, and she really was a strong contender today. Very well handled.

3. Sargent – KERIQUEL ROSE ROYALE.

Grey & white lady who is well proportioned in length and height, with a good length of loin which was nicely arched. Good shoulder angulation, good pasterns and great feet. Feminine head with dark oblique eyes and feminine muzzle. Great reach of neck on the move with a nice level topline. Well handled.

Champion (4, 0a) Beautiful class of worthy champions!

1. Cooper – CH JANSKCOO’S STRENGTH N’HONOUR.

Lovely grey & white who looked stunning on the day. Head finely chiselled and fox like, correct eyes and ears, good bone and correct coat. Excellent top line, arched loin, croup and tail. Moved effortlessly and was in one with handler. A great champion.

2. Jones – CH ICYNIGHTS DEVILS DESIRE.

Another outstanding girl with classic head and expression, feminine with almond shaped obliquely set eyes; ears set high and ideal size. Super outline with ideal proportions, great angulation front and rear, excellent topline with good arch over loin and nice slope to croup, correct tail set and super feet. On the move she has a fabulous stride and floats over the ground. Another great champion.

3. Smith – CH AMICAL SNOW WHITE VW.
