Midland Counties Ch Show 2024

Weimaraners

An enjoyable appointment judging this striking and noble breed. I was pleased to see several promising youngsters emerging who will certainly make their mark on the breed over time. I was very pleased with heads, body condition and temperaments. All were presented in good condition, clean and mostly well bodied and muscled. I was a little concerned with shoulder angulation and tail carriage. Well angulated shoulders are so important as they enable reach on the move and a more flowing outline. Poor tail carriage can affect the overall picture on the move, especially in profile. I was very pleased with both line ups and top honours were keenly contested.

Minor Puppy Dog (2,1abs)

1 Whitehead’s Gunalt Back Chat from Stridview

At 7 months is raw but so full of promise. Presented a good outline when stacked. He has a refined head, reachy neck and well laid shoulders. Well angulated quarters. He should go on to do well. Just needs to fill out and settle on the move.

Puppy Dog (3,1)

1 Alcorn and Ingrams’ Gunalt Roger That

At 11 months, already has a striking outline with so much to like. Masculine head which will get even better with time. Strong jaws and a keen eye. His neck is strong, of good length and flows nicely into his sloping shoulders. Straight in front with good bone. He has well angulated quarters and hocks are well let down. He was a little erratic on the move here but improved in the challenge and was even better later. My Best Puppy today.

2 Walton’s Akwamar under My Thumb

Also 11 months, differed in head to the winner having a more domed back skull but was still balanced and strong in jaw. Straight in front and well developed ribs for his age. He has good rear angulation and used this to advantage showing plenty of extension in profile on the move. I preferred the shoulder placement of the winner here.

Junior Dog (4)

1 Longbottom’s Gunalt Beehave

What a lovely young boy. Only 16 months but put on a good show today. Standing, presented a picture of strength and power but still that important refinement. Well shaped head of good width and correct ear placement. Strong neck leading to well laid shoulders and straight front of good width. Well ribbed with good length and depth to his chest. Firm over the loins giving a correct top line. Well developed quarters with good width of thigh and well turned stifles. He was presented in good body condition and moved well covering the ring with style. He continued to impress in the challenge where I was pleased to award him the RCC.

2 Sayer and Wallwork’s Braefell Blackthorn

Another good one. Not as forward as the winner here but still so much to admire. Good head with plenty of work and correct length of muzzle. Clean neck of good length leads to well boned front legs and nicely sloping pasterns and compact feet. Strong over his quarters with good angulation and correct tail set. He moved well enough for his age. Just needs time to develop.

3 Akwamar under My Thumb

Post Graduate Dog (9,1)

A tricky class to judge with a wide variation of types and levels of maturity.

1 Phillips’ Rivertone Retrograde

What a well-constructed youngster who stood out for his overall balance and soundness both standing and on the move, Super head with deep flews and good length of foreface. Strong, clean neck of good length and nicely sloping shoulders. Developing well in chest with plenty of depth but not over done. He has good width to his quarters plenty of strength to his thighs and well turned stifles. He was the better mover in this class and pushed hard for top honours. Another that will surely make his mark.

2 Jennings’ Wallaroo Romeo

A good honest sort with well proportioned head and intelligent expression. Strong neck of good length and enough lay back of shoulder. Well boned and straight front legs. He is well muscled over his loins and has a good bend of stifle. He held is top line well which gave him the edge over the third.

3 Carpenter’s Aschfahl Kepanye

Limit Dog (7,2)

1 Hill’s Weipowa Double O’seven

Not yet two but maturing well and full of quality. Refined head with noble expression, clean neck of good length flowing into well laid shoulders. His ribs are well sprung and of good depth giving plenty of heart room. Firm level top line with strength over his loins. He has good rear angulation. Moving steadily and correctly. In super muscular condition as were all of this exhibitor’s dogs today.

2 Brown and Filby’s Desjiem Billy Dont Be A Hero

Finer type but so well balanced through. Pleasing head with strong clean neck. He is well bodied with both width and depth to his chest. Level in top line with the required slight slope of croup and good set on of tail. He moved truly in both directions.

3 Aschfahl Kepanye

Open Dog (2)

Two worthy Champions. I just preferred the maturity and finish of the winner here.

1 Simpson’s Ch Sireva Emeyefive

Looking back, I awarded this boy Best Junior when I previously judged him. So pleased to see how much he has developed and now looks the finished article. Just as the standard asks, a picture of power, stamina and balance. Lovely head with strong jaw and intelligent expression. Lovely neck with well laid shoulders and good bone. Well ribbed through, he has firm couplings and a correct top line which he held on the move. He has good width to his quarters, plenty of width to his second thigh and well angulated stifles. He moved straight and true showing reach and drive. In such good muscular order. Pleased to award him the CC in a strong line up.

2 Charlish’s Sh Ch Gunalt The Hangover

I have seen and admired this two year old form the ringside and appreciated the opportunity to judge him. Worthy Champion with a balanced head with correct ear placement and keen expression. He has a straight, well boned front and good width to his chest. Strong quarters with good bend of stifle and his hocks are well let down. He moved easily round the ring looking particularly good in profile. Just preferred the muscular condition and length of forearm of the winner today.

Veteran Dog (1)

1 Snaith’s Skilaki Move On Up to Bifonda

At seven is barely a veteran and looking so well. Super head with good length of foreface and moderate stop. Clean neck of correct length and lovely layback of shoulder. He has a well boned straight front. Well developed in chest. Good rear angulation giving a balanced outline.

Special Beginners Dog (4)

1 Wallaroo Romeo

2 Henefer’s Lost in Your Eyes

This 16 months Junior was Reserve in the Post Grad class. Correct in head with round bright eyes and good ear placement. He has good bone and was in decent coat and condition. He makes a good shape when standing but just needs to fill out to balance the picture.

3 Osborne-Fardon’s Silberliss Bombadier

Minor Puppy Bitch (4)

1 Bott, Allen and Morgan’s Gunalt Conversation with Allenie

At 7 months is very much a baby but so full of promise and potential. She is so good to go over. Feminine head which will only improve as she develops. Good neck and well placed shoulders, elbows nicely tucked in. Balanced in body with good rear angulation. She moved soundly, showing a good length of stride. It will be interesting to see how she develops.

2 Maskell’s Brownbank Willow with Raystans

Another one showing plenty of promise. Unsettled on the move but looked well stacked, standing over plenty of ground for her 8 months. Clean neck and sloping shoulders. Lovely bone and straight in front. She has a correct top line and is well angulated behind. Looked well.

3 Anderson’s Gunalt Gift of The Gab

Puppy Bitch (4)

1 West’s Gunalt Frequency by Hantu

Well developed and forward 11 month old; Litter sister to my BP and of the same high quality. Strong bone but well balanced and feminine through. Well shaped head with intelligent expression and well placed ears. Lovely depth and width to her chest. She has a correct topline and good set on of tail. She moved well in profile showing good extension.

2 Brownbank Willow with Raystans

3 Kelly’s Vansant Vixen

Junior Bitch (6,1)

1 Dyer and Oddie’s Sharnphilly Annie Mac

At first unsettled and seemed hurried but soon got things together and looked so well. Well developed head of correct proportions with kind eyes and good ear placement. Strong neck leading to well laid shoulders. Well bodied for her age with good depth and width to her ribs. Firm over the loins and good width to her thighs. She was the better mover in this class and worthy of consideration in the challenge. She has developed so well since I judged her as a raw youngster.

2 Mullinger’s Sunshine of Your Love

Another showing plenty of promise. Lovely head with clean neck and good shoulder angulation. Level in top line with good depth of body. She has well bent stifles and is short from hock to heel. This enables a correct driving action from behind.

3 Hostler’s Theondale Margot

Post Graduate Bitch (4)

I was really taken with the first two in this class. Both out of the top drawer and a credit to their owners and breeder.

1 Hill’s Weipowa Ida

Had to work hard here to edge this class and carried on to win the RCC. So balanced in outline and presented in super body, coat and muscular condition. Refined but strong head with good length of muzzle and alert expression. Strong in neck with well laid shoulders. She has a balanced body with deep chest and good length of rib. Strong and firm couplings giving correct topline and set on of tail. Good strength to her quarters with good width of second thigh and well turned stifles. She moved so well showing both reach and drive. A pleasure to award her the RCC.

2 Balch’s Weipowa Severine

This youngster really filled my eye for type and quality, so unlucky to meet the winner in such good form. Just 18 months and ticks so many boxes. Lovely head with good width and strong jaws. Strong clean neck. Well boned straight front legs. Well ribbed with depth to her chest and good length of body. She is well coupled and muscled over her loins giving a firm level top line. She has width to her quarters and well developed second thighs. Good rear angulation. She moved well away from me just lost out today on front action but I have no doubt that will come with maturity. I see that she is by my DCC winner out of my Best Veteran. Not surprising I like her.

3 Pilatova’s Sabsky Sasanka

Limit Bitch (7,2)

1 Phillips’ Farnfield Deja Vu from Rivertone

Lovely three year old with intelligent expression and kind eyes. She has a refined head which is well balanced and shows a good length of muzzle. Clean in neck with enough bone and nicely sloping shoulders. Good depth of body and length of rib giving correct overall balance. She has well developed quarters which enable her to show both reach and drive on the move. A little unsettled in the challenge but still had so much to offer.

2 Dobbs’ Kalimor Summa Love

Another well balanced girl with plenty of virtues. Feminine head of good length with correct ear placement. Good front with enough width leading to a well ribbed body. She has plenty of depth. Well angulated quarters showing good bend of stifle. Looked well stacked but not as free on the move as the winner.

3 Pilatova’s Sabsky Svratka

Open Bitch (9,4)

1 Tierney’s Sh Ch Gunalt Elderflower at Greyfurs

A new one to me, caught my eye at the start of the class and I kept getting drawn to her. Her overall look and outline giving the desired picture of strength and stamina. Super head with intelligent expression and good ear placement. Strong neck with good shoulder placement and straight, well boned front. Lovely depth of chest with width and length to her ribs and moderate tuck up. She has a firm and level top line and good width to her quarters. In good muscular condition, she has width to her thighs and well bwnt stifles. She moved precisely here and in the challenge to win the CC. A pleasure to award her Best of Breed over the handsome male.

2 West’s Sh Ch Gunalt Wavelength

One I have seen from the ringside and admired on several occasions. Today, I was pleased to get the opportunity to go over her. She is so good to go over and free from exaggeration. Feminine head with correct eye colour and shape. Good reach of neck and well laid shoulders. She has good depth to her chest and is firmly coupled. Good rear angulation. She moved soundly and truly covering the ring with minimal effort. A worthy Champion.

3 Maskell and Rayner’s Sh Ch Enjager Harmony with Brownbank

Veteran Bitch (3)

1 Hill’s Weipowa Winnie Winchester

My RCC winner last time I judged the breed and now seven, still shows so much quality and class. Once more from this exhibitor, was presented in good body and super muscular condition. Balanced in outline with well-shaped head and kind expression. She has such well angulated quarters and nicely let down hocks. She moved well, particularly in profile. Best Veteran in Breed.

2 Anderton’s Tatze Bewitched by Thrihyrne

Eight years L/H with balanced head, strong neck and well boned front. She has good body proportions with good depth, well sprung ribs and firm couplings. Good width to her quarters, she moved well away from me showing plenty of drive.

3 Dobbs’ Oakswarren Ice Maiden

Special Beginners Bitch (1)

1 Gunalt Gift of The Gab

This relative baby of 7 months was third in the MP class. She is lovely and full of promise. Well bodied with good rear angulation and pleasing in outline. She was more settled and moved so much better here. I was pleased to award her best Special Beginners. Should go on to do well.
