Southern Counties Canine Association Championship Show 2024

Pointer

It is always lovely to be asked to judge at Southern Counties, as they run such a tight ship. Professional slick, and always smiling – what a team. We had a great in/out ring of super size and the ground was well maintained. It was an honour to judge pointers here for the first time, and I would like to thank everyone who entered their dogs. Presentation was excellent with so many well muscled dogs, however quite a few could have done with having their nails attended to. Movement is high priority for me, as my judging style will have identified, and I did find it a little hit or miss - there were a few short stepping and/or with excessive lift which needs to be watched. Some of the youngsters lacked confidence and need plenty of training to show themselves off more happily and to better advantage.

SpBD (10,2)

1 Keepersfield Simone (Mrs Parkin)

Nicely shaped head on this four-year-old who won this class on her movement producing a strong driving action and good ground coverage when on the go. Dark eye and kind expression. Very well muscle and handled to advantage.

2 Tenshilling Blowin Smoke (Mrs J Bowen-Brooks)

Another of good type and close-up to the winner as this is another with many good breed qualities. Scores in forechest and stands on excellent feet. Not quite the verve of one on the move today.

3 Sharnphilly Gingerbread (Mrs N Klaiber)

MPD (5)

1 Tenshilling Shboom (Mrs C J O'neill)

Shapely and well made youngster who looks to be growing on very nicely. He has good head proportions with a kind eye and large nose. He is well bodied and ribbed and has good development of forechest, with excellent development of muscle for his age all through. Attractively marked to complete the picture. He is a picture stacked and he will mature in his movement with time to complete the picture.

2 Harvestslade Fire and Ice Through Merynjen (Mrs K D Wilcox)

Like the head shape and proportions on this youngster however, he was a little tense in topline today and just needs to settle in himself on the move and use his tail less. He has good balance all through and was well muscled; the foundations are there are time and maturity will complete the picture.

3 Teisgol Patronus with Camairo (Mrs S-L Hoffman)

PD (4)

1 Tenshilling Shboom (Mrs C J O'neill)

1 Alozia Zealandia for Ratchda (Mrs G Marsh)

Nice dark eyes and kindly expression on this liver who has decent head proportions. However, at the moment he is at a rangy stage of growth and development and very up on the leg. Needs to body up and fill out all through. Has well enough angled fore and hind quarters but needs to settle when moving.

3 Teisgol Magic (Mr P R & Mrs D E & Mrs L & Miss J G Stilgoe & Stilgoe & Fox & Fox)

JD (4,1)

1 - Sunhouse I'll Be Black (ai) (Mrs R M C & Miss R Martin)

Very masculine head on this b&w, who is of good shape and moved with excellent ground coverage. Appeals for length and strength of neck and lay of shoulder, along with his strength in strong top line. Well muscled and presented in first class order his handler did a great job with him. Best Junior.

2 - Heartbury Matador (Mrs V & Miss S Norbury & Ganney)

Close up to the winner, but just not so forward in body development at the moment. This youngster holds his topline very well when both stacked and moving and was lovely to watch going around as he covers plenty of ground with his light footfall.

3 Teisgol Magic (Mr P R & Mrs D E & Mrs L & Miss J G Stilgoe & Stilgoe & Fox & Fox)

YD (5,1)

Close decision in this class as both first and second have lots to like about them.

1 Carmandine Oh C'mon Then (Mrs M & Mrs C Gerrard & Bell)

Very impressive young dog who has an upstanding demeanour and great attitude. This, combined with his very correct construction draws you in on immediate appraisal. Scores in proportions of head with plenty of work, kind expression, and clean neck and throat. Has very well laid shoulders, which smoothly flow into his top line and on to a correctly set tail. Well ribbed back he has strength in loin. Ideal balance of forehand and hindquarter angles. Standing on the best of feet, it was no surprises to then find him to be an excellent mover with easy ground coverage, light step, and a very easy stride. Well handled to get the best from him. I am sure he will reach the top without much difficulty. RDCC

2 Kanix Snapdragon at Fallowfield (Mrs C Lewis)

Another super quality youngster with excellent head and body proportions and great type all through. Easily comparable to the winner on the move too. However, he has endearing enthusiasm for the job but this did mean his occasional silliness meant he had to pay the price in this class today. I like him a lot and his great attitude will mean that he will become a super show dog in the years to come.

3 Kanix Sourdough with Calaquendi Bel Jch (Mrs A & Miss V & Miss L Hill)

PGD (10,2)

This was a very mixed class and quite tricky to sort out as there was such an aviation in size, style, type and movement.

1 Glenariff Mojito over Teisgol (Mr P R & Mrs D E Stilgoe)

This chap isn’t the biggest dog however, he was the best going around in the class and his movement clinched his win here. Has a well laid shoulder strong and topline with great angulation behind. Uses his construction to advantage on the move, driving off with very well-developed, first and second thighs.

2 - Joneva Just Imagine JW (Miss G J & Mr N A Mennen & Sweeney)

Quite different to 1 as this is a very tall dog, who looks rather rangy at the moment as he is at an in between stage and needs to body up - this will come with time. Presents a very clean and extremely elegant outline. Presented in first class order. He was well handled and moved out well enough to gain this place.

3 Heartbury Lord Asriel (Mrs V & Mr M, Mr K Norbury & Adams)

LD (10)

This was another mixed class with varying types; some were not giving it their all on the move today which is where it really matters.

1 Carofel Wings of Hope JW Ww23 Swiss Jch (Mrs L Adams)

This ultra smart and upstanding young o&w headed up the class as his movement could not be overlooked. He has a beautifully moulded head with dark clean eyes, great pigment, and a large nose. Balanced in his angulation front and rear, he has a well laid shoulder and flows beautifully all through. He uses his excellent construction to best advantage when going around, covering the most ground with the least lift. He was in absolutely perfect body condition with great muscular development, and this showed in his powerful and true action on the move. Beautiful coat and skin.

2 Fisherbloom Re'encountered JW (Miss G & Mr K & Miss L Adams & Adams & Scales)

Heavier set and longer cast than the winner but has many breed attributes. On the initial assessment he was rather flat on the move, but as the class went to his handler worked with him and he moved better as we went on. Good sound overall construction, and well ribbed, and presented in very fit condition.

3 Cumbrian Night King at Carofel (Imp Usa) (C, H & N Guy & Tuthill)

OD (6,1)

1 Sh Ch Sharnphilly Boondoggle JW (Miss Oddie)

I judged this d as a youngster a number of years ago, and it was a pleasure to get my hands on him again to see and appreciate the finished article, after having admired him ringside on several occasions. Close up there is nothing to disappoint. He is a real quality dog with lots of type, great construction, and quality bone. Going over him, everything flows and fits together so cleanly and his balance is easy to appreciate. On the move is where he truly excels, producing a light and easy ground covering action with soundness and accuracy of footfall away and back, and a long easy stride on the go around. Works away so well with his unobtrusive handler, they are a great pairing. There was nothing to match his movement in males today, and when it came to best of breed, his maturity, just gave him the edge to claim the breed. Not surprised to learn that the BCC is sired by him – a useful dog. Delighted toward him, the CC & BoB, and then thrilled to see him top a real quality Gundog group later in the day.

2 Sunhouse You're Nicked (Mrs R M C & Miss R Martin)

This d is a smart sort, stronger in make than the winner but of good type. His condition needs immediate commendation as it is incredible, and I am sure this exhibitor could give lessons and how to keep dogs fit! Shapely masculine head, this dog has lovely dark pigment, gentle in expression, and well balanced in skull to muzzle proportions. Another whose correct construction allows him to fit together very nicely and good to handle. Moves out with good carriage and drive, using his angles to great advantage.

3 Teisgol Love Is in The Air (Miss M E, Mr P R & Mrs D E Oliver & Stilgoe)

V (7)

1 Gartarry High Society at Spinray JW (Ms L, Ms P & Ms M Rayner, Spinks & Pringle)

This is a very shapely curcy b with feminine outline and lots to like, who presented in great condition and was very well handled today. She has good and head with plenty of work, a big nose, and a kind eye. Flows from neck to tail very well, and is well ribbed with short strong loin. As the class progressed she seemed to gain more and more zest for life which showed in her sound and powerful energetic movement. She could not be denied the win, and ultimately BV.

2 Sh Ch Tenshilling Home Alone JW ShCM (Mrs C J O'neill)

Worthy champion d who presents a typical line curvy and unexaggerated outline when stacked. Well ribbed back, and has good development of for chest and firm top line with balance to his angles. Moves off with a very strong driving action from his low hocks, however today I just felt the winner had a little less lift on the move when going around.

3 Tenshilling Blowin Smoke (Mrs J Bowen-Brooks)

MPB (6)

1 Harvestslade Star Ruby (Mrs D & Mr N Preece & Gilding)

Very pretty headed elegant young lady who will no doubt have a bright future. Has lots of qualities to appreciate - well laid shoulders, strong top line, good ribbing and strongly made hind quarters with low hocks. Has a lovely attitude and showed her conformational virtues off to best advantage.

2 Teisgol Alohomora (Mr P & Mrs D, Mrs L Stilgoe & Fox)

Another lovely feminine youngster who has lots of potential and many attributes to appraise. She has a shapely clean outline and moves very well with balance of hind and forequarter use. She just wasn’t quite as forward going as 1 on the day.

3 Tenshilling Sweet Nothins (Mrs K & Mrs C J Timothy & O’neill)

PB (6)

1- Joneva Just One Wish (Mr K Adams)

Sound and honest - this youngster who is particularly good when moving away and towards. Very feminine head which needs time to develop. Presents are clean curvy outline stacked up with good angles at the front and equal balance at the rear. Present in first class order with great skin and well developed muscles for age. BP

2 Sharnphilly Canasta for Riowood (Miss Oddie)

Thought this gorgeous b would’ve been my winner today however she was just a little unsettled on the move and tended to be a little bit tense when stacked. She has laods to like and is an excellent make and shape with lovely head and many confirmational positives. Definitely one for the future when she knows her job all the more.

3 - Teisgol Alohomora (Mr P & Mrs D, Mrs L Stilgoe & Fox)

JB (5,1)

1 Riowood Blackcurrant at Fallowfield (Mrs C Lewis)

This is a really lovely b with a very pointery curvy and feminine outline. Lovely head with great balance and plenty of length of foreface and strength in jaw, lots of work, and a very kind eye. She is elegant and feminine in her construction all through, but has strength and good bone. Scores particularly in solidity of top line and set and use of tail on the move. Has great character and a mischievous nature which was a great positive as this showed in her ground covering movement with super carriage.

2 Sunhouse Black T' Square One (ai) (Mrs R M C & Miss R Martin)

Strikingly marked blanket backed b&w, who is instantly appealing in outline, which is further enhanced by attractive markings. Shade longer cast than the winner, but another who moved out very well with strong drive from low hocks. Appeals in cleanness of shoulder placement and strength of topline. Has many attributes to appraise; stands on good feet, in immaculate order, and was very well handled.

3 Zoalin Better Together (Ms J & Miss K & Miss Z Brock)

YB (8)

1 Kanix Smoochie at Stargang (Miss H Blackburn-Bennett)

Clean curvy outline on this youngster however, head needs to develop a little. Has elegance when stacked up, clean all through. Superb front with well laid shoulder and good return of upper arm. Strong top line, well angled and muscles quarters with low hocks. Unsurprisingly, has great ground cover on the move with little lift and a super side gait.

2 Freebreeze Pixar at Prosperity (Miss T Cardiff)

This young lady was not the most confident and certainly needs to be appreciated on the move to be able to admire her fully. She’s a very sound with the accurate footfall and just needs a little bit of confidence when stacked up to complete the show.

3 Millpoint Golden Pippin JW (Ms A Brooksmith)

PGB (12)

1 Hawkfield Frivolous for Caithpoint (Miss F, Mrs C & Mr B Earl, Wheldon & Jones)

This is an eye-catching and stylish o&w b, whose outline instantly appealed on the initial appraisal of the class. On closer inspection she certainly did not disappoint. Lovely head, really super front, strong in top line and well balanced quarters with well turned stifles and let down hocks. Closely considered for top honours today in this good company This bitch will no doubt make up; good luck to her accomplished handler.

2 Clamerkin Jubilee Surprise at Hookwood (Mrs S & Mrs J & Miss C Welch & Drake & Hazeltine)

Stronger head than 1, and not quite so neat in feet. This b has a good shape to her when stacked, however she really excels on the move where she covers plenty of ground with ease. Presented in great order.

3 Keepersfield Simone (Mrs Parkin)

LB (11)

This was a great class to judge.

1 Kanix Skyfall (Mr & Mrs J Blackburn-Bennett)

Thought this b was an absolute smasher all through with loads to like. She appeals on the stack for her clean and shapely out line which is graceful, with curves, and with balance in angulation. She has femininity combined with strength, quality bone, and good depth. Lovely headpiece with balance and big open nostrils. Great to go over as everything flows together; she is presented in such a maculate condition with well developed muscle and perfect body condition. Hugely impressive on the move where she is sound away and back and covers a significant amount of ground with ease and minimal lift on the go around. Light and accurate in her footfall, maintaining her top line and holding her head high. Delighted toward her a first CC, I’m sure there will be plenty more to follow.

2 Sharnphilly Sugarplum JW (Miss Oddie)

One I have done well for her before, and she continues to impress as she mature. Well pigmented lemon with feminine head and kind expression. Flowing outline with well laid shoulder, length of rib, strong loin, slightly sloping croup, and well set. Has graceful angulation behind and low hocks. Closely matched to the winner on the move where she really gives it, her all covering the ground with Minimal lift and accuracy of footfall. Appeals in overall elegance, balance, and proportions in this quality b entry to earn well-deserved RBCC.

3 Heartbury Northern Lights JW (Mrs V & Mr M, Mr K Norbury & Adams)

OB (6,1)

1 Sh Ch Chesterhope C'mon over to Carmandine (Imp Nzl) JW (Mrs M & Mrs C Gerrard & Bell)

Typy b of super quality and with a really lovely head. Has femininity and elegance all through Quality bone with strength. Has super forehand construction, giving her a clean flow of neck into shoulder. Maintains a solid topline both standing and moving. Flowing quarters with well turned stifles and let down hocks, showing great development of first and second thighs. This is a great moving b going around her high head college and ground coverage with minimal lift. Was in contention for top honours today, however she just started to flag in the final run offs.

2 Sh Ch Sniperay Edge of Glory JW (Mrs J Radcliffe)

Another quality b in this very good class who has lots of qualities to admire. Not quite the femininity in head and eye of the winner, but equally good in body construction and movement. Presented in first class order, she has good bone and muscle and stands on good tight feet. She pushed the winner very hard today.

3 Sh Ch Tenshilling The Wanderer (Mrs J Webb)

David R. Alcorn (Lourdace/Gunalt) (Judge)
