Boston and District Canine Society Championship Show 2024
Retriever (Golden)
It was a real thrill to be awarding my first set of CC’s in this lovely breed and I would initially like to thank the B&DCS committee for the invite and hospitality, and secondly to thank all of the exhibitors who had afforded me such an amazing entry of wonderful dogs. I have had a soft spot for this breed since I started showing around 25 years ago, when entries at open shows in Scotland used to frequently be over 90! The breed has always charmed me and their temperaments are second to none, which made todays judging all the more pleasurable. Whilst there was a little more variation across the dog classes, the bitch classes presented several headaches with a real depth of quality within them. I was delighted with both my final line ups, and wish you all the best with your dogs in the future, and I thought all of the “best ofs” represented the breed so well in their respective groups.
MPD (5,3)
1 Dewmist Danzatore with Ousevale (Imp Swe) (Mrs Clarke-Gear)
A strongly made puppy and a great start to the day with clear demonstration of the breeds kindly temperament! Very nicely headed already with dark pigment and expressive eyes. Sound in body construction and balance at each end. In great body and condition and moved with such soundness and purpose for such a baby. BPD. When he gets his head into what the job is all about he will go on to great things I’m sure.
2 Ashbyglen Excalibur (Ms J Holmes)
More settle to the job at the moment than 1, however he just needs to firm up in topline to complete the picture. Another with a good head shape and useful length of muzzle, dark expressive eyes and well set ears. Moved out with drive from low hocks.

1 Dewmist Danzatore with Ousevale (Imp Swe) (Mrs Clarke-Gear)
2 Ashbyglen Excalibur (Ms J Holmes)
3 Largymore Ravagier (Messrs A & I Scott-Briggs)
Happy youngster who was good to go over with moderation in construction throughout. In good coat, he is very well bodied and firm in muscle for his age. Stands on good feet and just needs time for the whole movement picture to tighten up and come together.
JD (13,4)
1 Bluebraes Bidey in at Rocamar (Miss F Macleod)
Very tidy sort of lovely type with well balanced head proportions. Has the advantage of being very well balanced on the stack, which shows through in his balance and soundness on the move which took him to the win in this good class. Super coat coming through and is presented in great fitness with super width and development to first and second thighs.
2 Linirgor Seven Up at Millanza JW (Ms B Angell)
Shapely and attractive on the stack, with balanced proportions and useful length of leg. Liked this chaps head shape and expression, with plenty of work. Stands well over his ground on the stack with pleasing depth of brisket. Not quite so together in front action as 1 today, but he is young and has bags of time.
3 Graceleigh Legend of Tarzan (Mr M P & Mrs D J Vernon)
YD (8,3)
1 Kulawand Skies of Blue over Benjcroft (Ms S E Webster)
There was a bit of a range of stages of development within the three in this class, at to be expected at this ago of growth and development, but this d clinched this win for his lovely free and easy action and length of stride on the go around. Head is coming on nicely, and will progress with time, and he has a kindly expression from his dark eyes. Has balance in angulation fore and aft, with strength in topline and loin, and a well set on tail. In really excellent muscular condition which aided his accuracy of footfall away and back.
2 Jessibelle Twice As Nice of Lilling (Mrs G & Miss O Fotheringham & Coope)
Stronger in head than1, he has just a little too much stop and back skull for my own preference, but he still retains a good expression. This d was also presented in good coat and muscle, and produced a very sound action when on the move.
3 Swanavly Popsy’s Legacy at Nunsbrook (Imp Srb) (Miss J & Mr S Liggins & Hodges)
ND (10,1)
1 Bluebraes Bidey in at Rocamar (Miss F Macleod)
2 Largymore Ravagier (Messrs A & I Scott-Briggs)
Nicely headed young male with kind expression from his dark eyes, and with good pigment and big open nose. Has soundness in make, which is demonstrated to best effect on the move as he produces a very neat and easy stride going around. Very strong in hind quarters with low hocks.
3 Bluebraes Gie It Laldy (Mrs W & Miss K Mcfarlane)
GD (15)
This class was a bit of a challenge to sort out as there were a wide range of shapes, sizes, and body proportions. Unfortunately there were also a couple of incorrect mouths, and some very small teeth.
1 Alibren Ready Teddy JW (Mrs G Munro)
This d stood away as he has attractive static and kinetic balance, which come from his well balanced skeletal construction and correct body proportions. He free stands with ease, showing off his soundness perfectly. Liked his head proportions, strong neck and topline, and well set on tail. Has accuracy of footfall which clinched the win in this class.
2 Waterbabies Sonic Boom to Eastbury and Hectson (Imp Ita) (Mrs M & Mrs S Fleet & Webb)
Quite similar to 1 but a bit stronger in head and a little more of him all through. Has lovely dark, well set, eyes, and good expression. Moved out well and covers the ground with strong drive from his low hocks.
3 Berrymeade Kilternan of Busheyhall Sgwc (K J Williams)
PGD (7)
1 Navilis Vivat Vivaldi JW (Imp Ukr) (Mrs J Gerhold)
Nicely moulded head shape on this d, with plenty of work and a soft expression. Has a compact outline with depth in brisket and backrib, and a short strong loin. When he stands up he tends to push forward and look rather front heavy which is a habit he needs to get out of, however on examination his balance is obvious. Lovely sound and free mover with balance of stride and plenty of ground cover using his neat feet tidily.
2 Mossburn Galloping Major JW (Mrs S H Pounds-Longhurst)
Very typical all through from his well shaped and worked head, strong neck and topline, to his well set on tail. Balanced in front and rear angles with nothing exaggerated, he moved out with a tidy even stride but dare I say it he appeared to be a little lacklustre today which didn’t quite give him the impulsion from the rear I expected – we all have off days!
3 Waterbabies Sonic Boom to Eastbury and Hectson (Imp Ita) (Mrs M & Mrs S Fleet & Webb)
LD (16,2)
1 Drumkilty Vanadium JW (Ms D Oakes)
Smart upstanding d who captured my attention on the initial look around. On closer inspection I found so much to like about him. Balanced head properties with super pigment, dark expressive well set eyers and neatly placed ears. Has useful length and strength in muzzle. His very well placed shoulders give rise to his strong clean neck and lead smoothly into a solid topline and along to a well set tail. Well bodied, he has length and depth of rib, and the added advantage of length of leg and straightness in limb with good bone. Stands excellent feet. Presented in first class order, he was a delight to examine. On the move he didn’t disappoint, and moved just as his construction would suggest – straight, true, long striding and with powerful drive from his low hocks and well developed second thigh. He impressed me a lot to win this good class, and then went up a gear in the challenge with his talented handler and he could not be denied the DCC today. In a close call for BoB he just took the edge, and represented the breed so well in the group and gained many admirers. Good luck in making him up, I’m sure you will do so with ease.
2 Eveninghill Detroit Red (Mrs L Williams)
This d presented a lovely clean shape and typical outline with lots to like all through. Lovely head with plenty of work and dark eyes. Has pleasing angles for and aft with nothing exaggerated and everything in balance. Lovely coat and skin and super muscle completes the picture. He moved out with accuracy of footfall and sound ground covering stride. Excellent feet, too!
3 King of Swing Qdore of Labgold to Bluebraes (Imp Pol) (Miss K Mcfarlane)
OD (7,5)
1 Kulawand Skywalker (Mr & Mrs R S & Mrs P Lane & Lane-Ridyard)
This d presented a good outline stood up, however to be best appreciated he needs to be seen on the move which is where he comes into his own. When stacked up he can sink a little into his hindquarter, however when on the move he uses his balance of construction to good advantage and goes around holding his topline firm and level. Presented in immaculate condition and with first class muscletone.
2 Ousevale Tobermory JW (Mrs Clarke-Gear)
Not quite the head of 1 and a shad longer in body and shorter in the leg. This d moved out with such verve and attitude demonstration his wonderful temperament. Good to go over, as he is presented in excellent condition, he is well ribbed and has a well set on tail.
VD (10,3)
What a smashing class with so many good examples.
1 Sh Ch Thornywait San Valentino JW ShCM (Mr A Trinder)
Very smart and upstanding veteran who is a credit to the breed and looked glorious today. Smashing headpiece with dark expressive well set eyes, plenty of work, and a good nose. Has length and strength in muzzle and balance of skull proportions. Strong reachy neck, well laid shoulders and useful return of upper arm, he stands well over his ground. Deep and long in rib, short and strong in loin, this gives him a rock solid topline both standing and moving. Has balance and superb development of muscle in the rear quarters and stands with his hocks perfectly straight at all times. A reall powerful mover with long stride and minimal lift, he covers so much ground with ease. Immaculate in coat, neat in feet, and spot on for muscular condition. A real pleasure to judge and award him a well deserved RDCC. He looked outstanding in the veteran group later in the day and did the breed proud claiming VG2.
2 Sh Ch Jaymardy Indigo Pacific JW (Mrs J Gerhold)
Very close up to the winner and another super example and a real credit to the breed and their lasting qualities. Loved his head shape and expression, strength in topline and spring of rib. Deep in brisket and with plenty of leg length, he uses his balanced unexaggerated construction so well on the move. Another who is in great condition showed off all of his attributes so well.
3rd Place 4289 - Sh Ch Amblemere You Say It Best at Benjcroft (Ms S E Webster)
SpBd (12)
There were some very well handled and extremely well presented dogs in this class.
1 Alibren Ready Teddy JW (Mrs G Munro)
2 Shebelta Sweet Soul Music JW (Miss J Phillips)
Was placed 4th in GD earlier in the day, but both handler and dog had relaxed so much more in this class, they looked a picture. Good front assembly and length and strength in neck. Moves out with confidence and uses his hindquarters to great advantage when going away.
3 Shebelta Sweet Home Alabama (Mrs S Law)
GCD (7)
1 Alibren Ready Teddy JW (Mrs G Munro)
2 Waterbabies Sonic Boom to Eastbury and Hectson (Imp Ita) (Mrs M & Mrs S Fleet & Webb)
3 Ousevale Tobermory JW (Mrs Clarke-Gear)
MPB (7,3)
1 Ashbyglen I Put A Spell On You (Mrs King)
Aptly named, as she did indeed! What an exciting prospect we have here; shapely, typical, balanced, and so full of live and verve. Beautiful headpiece with such a delightful expression. Just right in body development for her age – has balance of angles fore and aft, well ribbed, and nothing to excess. Well boned with strength and straightness of limb. Her outline is so typical, feminine, clean and correct. On the move she is extremely impressive for such a baby – striding out with power, accuracy and confidence. One destined for the top! BP & a super PG3.
2 Dewmist Dolce Vita with Catnnels (Mr M & Miss K Wheeldon & Hurry)
Very much the baby in this class but her type and overall qualities and soundness could not be denied. Feminine headed with lovely expression and dark eyes. Well made in front with straight legs and neat feet. Well ribbed back, she has strength in loin and topline. Not quite so together as 1 at this tender age, but plenty of time on her side and another exciting prospect.
3 Ambersun Head over Heels (Mr G & Mrs T Foreman)
PB (7,1)
1 Ashbyglen I Put A Spell On You (Mrs King)
2 Tsarmont Oh So Starstruck (ai) (Miss A James)
This baby was quite naughty, but I like that and it made her even more endearing as she has personality plus! Well grown and with good body and ribbin, she has a correct typical outline and is well made all through with moderation and balance. Liked her head shape, dark eyes, and she stands on particularly good fee. One for the future for sure!
3 Drumkilty One Night Stand for Sandaula (Miss P Hill)
JB (10,4)
1 Grassyards Field of Gold (Mrs J Russell)
What an utterly fabulous youngster! She really set me alight as she ticked all of the boxes and then some. Beautifully headed with delightful kind feminine expression, and dark – but mischievous – eyes. She is wonderfully made with well laid shoulder, good length of upper arm, balance of hind angles, low hocks and correct body to height proportions. Stands on good sound strong limbs and has excellent feet. She is well bodied and has depth of brisket and length of rib, which gives her strength in topline standing and moving. On the move she comes alive and produces a long sound stride with such accuracy of footfall away and back. After judging the class I couldn’t get her out of my head, and I thought she would be my CC winner, such that she made a lasting impression on me. However, in the challenge the LB picked it up a gear and this young lady had to settle for a well deserved RCC – imagine how pleased I was to later find out they are mother and daughter! What a clever breeder to produce such lovely ladies. Good luck!
2 Lamhryn Star of The Sea JW (Mrs M & Miss E L Williams)
Quite raw in this class at her present stage of development, but extremely feminine and pretty and couldn’t be denied this good placing. Lovely dark pigment and eyes, well shaped head with work and nicely set ears. She has a strong reachy neck and good solidity to topline, with well set tail. A very good mover and even though a tad loose owing to her age, she really covers the ground with ease. One to watch!
3 Ambersun Summersault Back to Wynrita (Mrs P Leonard)
YB (12,2)
1 Maltqudos Enchanted JW (Mrs V Mandley)
Lovely shape and type to this young lady whose static balance appealed on the initial look around. On handling I found her to be beautifully headed with a sweet expression from her dark eyes. Smooth lengthy neck into a strong topline and along to a well set on tail. Her angles front and rear and moderate but balance, with nothing to excess. As expected, she produced a very tidy gait when asked to move, with accurate footfall and strong driving action from the rear. Stands on great feet and presented in really excellent condition. A great prospect for the future.
2 Tullochmohr Ray of Sunshine at Glynerva JW (Miss L A Harper)
Correct sound construction and good balance on this b, however I just preferred the head of 1 today. This b is well made throughout, and has strength with femininity. Particularly impressive on the move, she is sound on the away and back and covers a very good amount of ground on the go around, holding her topline and tail very well at all times.
3 Ambersun Passione of Odarla JW (Mrs M Rodgers)
NB (9,0)
1 Tsarmont Oh So Starstruck (ai) (Miss A James)
2 Haydengold Moment in Time (Ms L List)
Shapely b who will look even better with maturity and development in brisket as time goes on. Nice shape to her head which is balanced but just a touch stronger than 1. Nicely made fore and aft with good ribbing, and low hocks. Tends to lean forward a little when stacked up, and just needs to firm up in hind action to complete the picture.
3 Cheek to Cheek Unbridled Dreams for Siatham (Imp Fra) (Mrs A E Falconer)
GB (10,3)
1 Ousevale Angel’s Kiss at Carianjo JW (Mrs B A Moss)
Very appealing outline on this young lady who has a shapely balanced typical silhouette. Feminine headed with balance of skull and muzzle length. Well laid shoulders, and good upper arm length and angle. She is presented in first class order and great coat. On the move she covers the ground very well, just needs to come together and mature in front to complete the picture.
2 Tweedspey Toppsecret avec Ponfeigh (Imp Fra) JW (Mrs J Neilson)
Slightly larger than 1 but that doesn’t detract from her femininity at all. Another with a good head and useful strength in foreface, as well as dark expressive eyes. Her balance and soundness all through and particularly well emphasised when she free stacks, and she brings herself into a correct sound outline. Has great enthusiasm for the job and moved out well with real power from the rear.
3 Ousevale Ocean Breeze at Benrowan (Mr & Mrs W Hush)
PGB (13,3)
This was a bit of a mixed class again, in terms of size and shape. Some were quite long and a little short on the leg for my own preference.
1 Megarvey Deja Vu JW (Miss P & Mr D Hill & Smith)
Stood away in this class for her overall knetic balance and soundness when asked to move – she uses every inch of her construction so well and produces a very sound and easy action. Great for type with a balanced head, dark eyes, strong arched neck, and level topline. Super development of forechest and depth to brisket and a deep back rib. Has excellent width of thigh and low hocks. One who cannot be far away from top awards and she was closely considered in this good company today, that’s for sure.
2 Flyngalee Busy Boo (Miss S Mccormack)
Touch larger than 1, but still very feminine and is well balanced and proportioned all through. Grand head and delightful feminine expression with dark eyes. Reall super body with well spring rib, firm couplings and strong level topline. Her angulation front and rear is moderate and balanced, and she uses herself very well indeed on the move to produce a long fluid stride.
3 Auristela Lady Luck at Lamhryn (Mrs M & Miss E L Williams)
LB (17,6)
This was a really lovely class, thank you for bringing all these lovely ladies for me to judge.
1 Grassyards Call Me Madam JW (Mrs J Russell)
What a class act! This beautiful b stood out for me and she stopped this great class with her ground covering stride on the go around, and she never flagged all day! Has the most beautiful feminine head with dark expressive eyes, and a very kindly expression. Getting your hands on, she is difficult to fault as everything flows together so beautifully and she is so balanced and without exaggeration all through. Correct laid long scapula allows for a strong and reachy neck which flows perfectly into her strong level topline. She possesses a useful return of upper arm, and along with her super development of forechest and correct brisket, gives you the most glorious front assembly. Well ribbed back she is strong in loin and couplings, which lead to well bent stifles and very well developed first and second thigh muscles. Her hocks are low and straight, and she stands on the best of feet. Where some may give it all on the stack and then fail on the move, this young lady certainly did not and she put every inch of her textbook construction to great use on the move. Dead sound away and back, and eats up tonnes of ground with ease on the go around. She had tough competition in the challenge, but she just kept giving it more and more every time she was asked, with her handler getting the very best from her. Delighted to award her a well deserved BCC.
2 Megarvey Clementine JW (Miss P & Mr D Hill & Smith)
Another really great mover whose kinetic balance and overall soundness cannot be praised enough. Lovely shape to her head with nicely shaped and set dark eyes. Her expression is so typical. Lovely to go over as she too flows and fits together so well, with nothing to excess our out of proportion. Loved her body and ribbing, and strength in topline. Has depth of body and good length of leg to balance her. Accurate in footfall and correctly driving from her low hocks. One who should reach the top.
3 Kulawand Sky with Diamonds (Mr & Mrs R S & Mrs P Lane & Lane-Ridyard)
Reserve (4th Place) 4148 - Fenpinque Vogue (Ms Campion)
OB (6)
1 Sh Ch Quakerhall Flare by Pandora (Mrs D S & Mrs R J Crookes & Jenkinson)
Beautiful feminine outline on this very worthy champion b, whose qualities were well displayed today. Lovely headed with gentle expression, dark pigment and eyes. Scores in front angulation, which is equally balanced at the rear. She has strength of topline and length of rib, leading to a well muscled hindquarter. She free stacks particularly well showing off all her virtues. A good mover, she has a correct easy action, however in the challenge she appeared to be tiring a little and dropped into her forehand just a touch, which cost her futher honours today in this good company.
2Meiepere You Are My Sunshine Est/lva Jch/balt Jw'18 (Imp Est) (Mrs M Fosdike)
A real showgirl, this young lady was totally up for showing off all of her attributes today and her talented handler really gets the best from her! Whilst she is from a larger mould than 1, she has femininity and balance with many breed characteristics. A very sound mover, she really uses her great angulation to best effect on the go around, and covers the ground with ease and strong drive from the rear.
3 Int/multi Ch Unique Selection Adelyn Multi Jch (H Lewandrowski)
VB (8)
1 Multi Ch Sequins Sabiha (H Lewandrowski)
What a super type, with feminine outline but retaining strength and workmanlike qualities. Lovely headshape with balance and plenty of work, dark expressive eyes, and well set ears. Possesses strength in neck, topline, and loin, and has a well set on tail. Her angulation in front is excellent, with a well laid shoulder, and nicely complimented by her moderation of angles behind. In great body and super coat and condition, she has excellent width of thigh. A very good mover indeed, she is impressive on the go around and close to top honours today, for sure.
2 Quakerhall Victory Jubilee JW (Mrs D S & Mrs R J Crookes & Jenkinson)
What a super example of the longevity of this breed; this young lady has such verve and zest for life and was gleaming with vitality. Very nice type of head with dark expressive eyes, and even in the veteran class there was a hint of mischief for sure! Has strength in neck and solidity in topline. Well set on and carried tail. Great body and ribbing with depth to brisket, and good length to leg. Closely pushed 1 all the way, as this b is a lovely mover as well, producing a sound honest action.
3rd Place 4259 - Sh Ch Rojillair Evening Magic of Odarla JW (Mrs M Rodgers)
SpBB (10,3)
1 Ashbyglen I Put A Spell On You (Mrs King)
2 Altindan User Friendly JW (Miss A E Taggart)
Pretty headed young lady who really gave it her all but was unlucky to come up against the winner today who was really firing on all cylinders! This young lady has a decent lay of shoulder and strong topline, with neat tidy feet and well developed muscles. Just a shade longer than 1.
3 Sansue Love Note at Louellabrook (Mrs A L & Mr M L Brown)
GCB (7,3)
1 Mossburn Golly Miss Molly JW (Mrs S H Pounds-Longhurst)
I have always appreciated the sound, moderate, honest types that this kennel produces and this young lady is no exception. Typical in head with balance of skull and muzzle length and useful length of foreface. Well laid shoulder with correct return, she is deep enough in brisket and well ribbed back. Strong in topline with well set on tail, her angles behind are complimentary to her forehand and she uses them all to great advantage on the move. In super muscular condition, rock solid, her accuracy of footfall away and back was particularly good.
2 Dewmist Dolce Vita with Catnnels (Mr M & Miss K Wheeldon & Hurry)
3 Tsarmont Oh So Starstruck (ai) (Miss A James)
David R. Alcorn (Lourdace/Gunalt) (Judge)
