Best In Show

How lucky we all where to have the planned championship show with Driffield re-scheduled with Darlington thanks to the quick thinking & determination of the clubs committee. All the original scheduled judges where available & under The RKC rules all entries remained the same & just carried over. I had anticipated a late finish & was pleasantly surprised to have the six Best of Breed winners gather for my opinion just before 5pm. A fresh line up of many new ones at this level of competition & all deserved their place here to represent their variety. Best In Show was awarded to The Smooth, Paterson’s Cwmdarhian The Mistress, 3yr ultra feminine B/T who is in the peak of condition, the coat & shine without doubt was outstanding. Beautiful size & so well proportioned being free from exaggeration. Stunning head & expression, dark almond shaped eyes, well arched neck that she uses so well on the move to project herself naturally, very good shoulders, tight elbows, perfect wrinkle free legs on well bunched feet. Ribbing extends well back & is well sprung. Thick short loins, well made quarters with enough angulation. Here she was sound enough coming & going but it was her profile action that sealed it for me, no stringing up, perfect carriage clearly demonstrating the correct reach in front & follow through from behind. Mrs Coxon found this delightful young lady in the breed. Reserve Best In Show was The Miniature Smooth, Melbourne, Paget & Carrol’s Melriding Black Tom, not quite 2 yrs, this B/T boy is hard as nails & in fabulous condition throughout. Strong masculine head without being course, well arched neck, very good shoulders. Plenty of forechest & width throughout. Ribbing is long, deep, oval & well covered, correct in top & underlines, thick strong loins leading into thick hammy quarters. Tail correctly set & a clear continuation of the spine. Quite precise in his action & covered the ground in style, freely like a well oiled machine. Mr Allen found this quality boy in his entry.

For Best Puppy sadly The Long, Reid’s Swansford Daphnedora At Maudaxi could not compete as I had bred her having won BP in breed under Mr Geavons, many congratuations!. From the five remaining Best Puppy In Show went to The Wire, Beagrie’s Felhund Moonlight, Thought him really smart & so full of character just as a puppy should be. Your hands just flow going over him with everything in the right place for his age, really loved his head & expression, plenty of neck, good shoulders with superb bone & feet, ribbing is well developed & he retains a firm backline at all times. So sound for one so young coming & going & his profile action is free & easy covering the ground in great style. Crisp harsh coat that was beautifully presented, good luck with him!. Mrs Maxwell found this delightful chap in her Wire entry. Reserve Best Puppy In Show was The Min Smooth, Blackburn’s Stargang Serephina, 11 month red girl full of quality & promise. Her body proportions really appealed with her exceptional length of ribbing & ultra short strong loins. Typical head & expression, dark points throughout, ultra feminine in outlook with determination written all over her, she just wants to move & she certainly can like a train, a girl on a mission with places to go which she already does with style & flair!. No doubt with luck will be another beauty from this kennel that will make it to the upper house, delightful!

The Veteran line up was ultra strong, many favourites here & it really was a tough decision. All five are superb examples (no wire veteran), & thoroughly deserved their right here to represent their variety. Putting my heart strings to one side & judging them at this moment in time, from a line up of stars Brest Veteran In Show went to The Min Long, Wood’s Ch Wildstar Wrobinson, judged him as a youngster at Crufts & here at 8 yrs old I thought this Red Boy pulled everything out of the bag & moved even better, especially in profile. He is all Dachshund in a Miniature package & never lets his clever breeder down. Good head, enough neck which he uses so well at all times, well muscled throughout, good shoulders, first class ribbing, well made quarters with good length of second thigh. Hocks are strong & parallel which reflects when he goes away showing a clean set of pads. He still retains a beautiful outline in profile & still clearly wants to please his owner. I was delighted to have the opportunity to go over him again & thought his win here today was totally justified. Not surprised to hear he had picked up another CC in the breed here today under Mrs Val Phillips, congratulations

Best Special Beginner In Show went to The Min Smooth, Wilkinson & Wakman’s Bronia Donatello For Wakywilks, just short of 12 months, very well made b/t puppy full of potential & all in proportion, very good head & dark almond shaped eyes, correct layback of shoulders especially for one so young, enough forechest & width throughout, ribbing is well developed for his age & extends well back. Tail correctly set & carried at all times. Quite precise coming & going & moves out well in profile whilst demonstrating all that is good about him. Delightful size & beautiful type, good look with him!
