South Wales Kennel Association

Breed: Dachshund (Miniature Long Haired)
SOUTH WALES KENNEL ASS. 12th October

Would like to thank the committee for the invitation to judge and to my steward for keeping things running smoothly.

I had a lovely entry to judge, although had some good quality dogs to go over, there is room for improvements. I found incorrect bites, poor presentation and some which if they had their full body weight would be too big and heavy as mini. Some were down on their pasterns or flat splayed feet, a couple were deep in keel and was lacking front or hind angulations or both.

Overall, I was pleased with my winners.

Min Longs

Vet D (1)

1st Mrs Broad – Eldmour Sea Lord of Dinkidudlor. 9Yr old, very well presented, masculine head, enough depth to his muzzle, correct bite. Good pigment, dark eyes, ears set obliquely, enough reach of neck into well laid shoulders. Prominent breastbone with good depth to keel, ribbing carried back, strong loin just lacked the turn of stifle to his hind quarters, showed well.

PD (1)

1st Miss & Mr Dalton & Beach – Zarcrest Red in The Room. Quite raw and still has time on his side, conicle head, good depth to muzzle and correct bite, enough reach of neck into well laid front, prominent breastbone, ribbing carried back into well angled rear, used well. Just needs to tighten in should have a great future. BPIB.

JD (3-1)

1st Miss Small- Minard Darque Red for Devondax - Won his class on movement. Nice to go over, strong head, correct bite, good depth to his muzzle. Enough reach of neck into reasonable front, I would of liked more breastbone and a little depth to his keel, ribbing in proportion to his size, I would have liked slightly more bend to his stifle and let down onto hocks, moved well.

2nd Mrs & Miss Weston & Johnson – Dolyharp Don Ottavio with Ecotyne.

Similar remarks apply, lost out to winner as was too deep in keel, looked off balance profile, preferred hind quarters on winner and movement.

PGD (2-1)

1st Mayson & Nichols – Charpurdys The Viscount. Bigger frame, felt if carried more weight would be too heavy for the ideal mini standard. Was a bit fidgety, nice head, correct bite, good reach of neck, reasonable front construction, rib length just enough, good hind quarters. Didn't quite move as freely, looked a little erratic.

LD (5-1)

1st Miss Grose – Belvydach Proper Job.

1st and 2nd could have been either way, but winner had more of an edge to him today. Much more settled on the move and strode out well covering the ground. Nicely balanced, well presented, all in proportion. Strong masculine head, good depth to his jaws, correct bite, ears set correctly, good reach of neck, into well laid front and good depth to his keel. Ribbing well sprung, strong loin and sound hind quarters with good action. DCC & BOB.

2nd Mrs Poole – Findowrie The Fusileer. Again similar remarks apply, just didn't have the edge today, lovely to go over.

3rd Mrs Latham-Jackson – Hanishan Neapolitan Urishay.

OD (4)

1st Mrs Poole – Findowrie Mr Mckye. Much more settled on the move and strode out well covering the ground. Nicely balanced, all in proportion. Strong masculine head, good depth to his jaws, correct bite, ears set correctly, good reach of neck, into well laid front and good depth to his keel. Ribbing well sprung, strong loin and sound hind quarters with good action, I feel if moved quickly would really excel and cover the ground. RDCC.

2nd Weston & Johnson – Ch Ecotyne Devils Advocate. Lost out to winner on movement, similar remarks apply, lovely to go over. Winner had better rear angles and action.

3rd Phillips – Summerview Hello Hugo JW.

Vet B (1)

1st Westaway – Abbilis Jive Talking at Treranch. 8Yrs, strutted her stuff round the ring, nicely balanced and compact. Feminine head, correct bite, well presented, good reach of neck into good front construction. Ribbing well sprung, good hind quarters, kept topline on the move. Preferred her over the male. Best Vet.

MPB (5)

all very raw babies.

1st Miss Grose – Belvydach Flaming Norah. She won this class a was much more settled on the move than her other class mates. Very pleasing to go over, has time on her side to mature and tighten in. moved well.

2nd Miss Holtom – Rivandell Nymphadora. Again, not quite as mature as winner, still needs to develop, a little unsettled on the move and table.

3rd Mrs Grattage – Darwindax Cissy Strut for Woodlandax.

PB (7-2)

1st Rev Fairchild – Restinim Miss Whiplash. Won on maturity. Was most settled on the move. Nice to go over, I would have liked bit more rib length in proportion to body, looked a little lean. Feminine head, correct bite, enough neck length, not as fully developed in her front, just enough keel, moved well.

2nd Miss Ham – Ciselsig Hey there Delilah. Again, not quite as mature as winner, a little unsettled on the move. Looked rangy compared to winner. Should have some fun.

3rd Grose - Belvydach Flaming Norah.

JB (6-1)

1st Mrs Poole – Findowrie Finesse. Both 1st and 2nd are lovely, I preferred the hind quarters on winner and movement. Nicely balanced, well presented, all in proportion. Strong feminine head, good depth to her jaws, correct bite, ears set correctly, good reach of neck, into well laid front and good depth to keel. Ribbing well sprung, strong loin and sound hind quarters with good action. BCC.

2nd Miss Walters – Ralines First Past the Post. As said previously, lovely bitch to go over. Just preferred winners hind quarters and movement today. Lovely quality to go over.

3rd Latham-Jackson – Urishay Nell Gwyn.

PGB (4)

1st Miss Holtom – Rivandell Osha. Overall nicely balanced and compact all in the right place. Was best mover in this class. Pleasure to go over, kept her topline on the move and used her hind quarters well.

2nd Mrs Way - Ralines Ways and Means. Similar to winner, not quite got the angles in her front and rear, just didn't excel in movement. Nicely stacked and well presented, as I said, I preferred the movement on winner.

3rd Bowman-Davies – Timshaws Gold Dragon.

LB (6)

1st Miss Thomas – Abydachs About Time. A really nice compact and balanced bitch. Just like a little more to her stifle, but she can still move covering ground. Lovely feminine head, good depth to her jaws, correct bite, enough reach of neck into well laid shoulders, good breastbone and enough depth to her keel, ribbing sprung, strong loin and just enough to her quarters. RBCC.

2nd Miss Small - Kenzduo Monday Mojito at Devondax. Similar to winner, just lacked front and rear angles, I preferred overall profile and movement of winner.

3rd Miss Dalton – Zilcan Creme Caramel at Llansansior JW.

OB (6-1)

1st Mrs Pain – Tolberg Here's To The Future with Ravensbeech JW. Moved the best in this class overall. Nice feminine head, correct bite, good length of neck, well laid shoulders, good depth to her keel, ribbing carried back, strong loin, sound hind quarters. Good action coming and going.

2nd Mrs Siggee - nicely balanced, similar remarks apply, I would have liked more body weight as felt underdone, not as good on movement, lacked let down onto her hocks.

3rd Weston & Johnson – Ecotyne Witch On A Broom
