I was honoured and excited to be invited to judge this lovely breed at Crufts, many thanks to the Crufts Committee for the invitation to judge at this incredible show, to my stewards who kept me moving along and to the exhibitors who entered their dogs under me and accepted my decisions so sportingly. CRUFTS can be a difficult show for some dogs, I find the green carpet seems to make dogs that lean against the lead spin their feet so their elbows go out and their feet turn in in front, while the rears can look quite unsteady.I have mentioned good movement where I have seen it and see no need to denigrate any dog that is having a hard day. Hocks are an issue, we have so many dogs with sickle hocks where there is no flexion or extension of the hock joint, giving almost a shuffling effect behind, then sadly we are now seeing the opposite, free reaching and driving that does not belong in a German Spitz ring, moderate is such an important part of our standard, we do not need or want exaggeration, neither too little or too much, balanced and agile in true spitz style is what I look for.

143. German Spitz (Mittel) - Veteran Dog

1ST 996 - Gronw October Moon over Grizwold (Mrs C J King)

What a lovely dog to start the day, he is a very handsome well balanced 7 year old dark orange sable boy with an attractive masculine head and expression, he has dark eyes with excellent pigment, almost flat skull and well developed cheeks. He has lovely bone and tight feet and he moved well in all directions.

2ND 1013 - Hocombewood Hot Toddy for Lindcoly (Miss A J Saich)

This eleven year old brown dog has a big coat with good texture ,and he is well off for bone and substance. He had lovely ear size and set which give him a great expression. He moved soundly but he is slightly short in back compared with 1.

144. German Spitz (Mittel) - Puppy Dog

Entries: 2 Absentees: 0

The exciting thing about every puppy is watching how they develop and grow into their early promise, both these very young lads need to mature in head and fill out with muscle, but time is on their side, they both have super temperaments.

1ST 1009 - Cadasaro Georgie with Nosregor (IKC) (Miss L Rogerson)

What a super prospect here, only 8 months and so confident with such an appealing character. He is a very well balanced puppy, with a pale cream coat and dark pigment. His bone and feet are excellent, he has a good lay of shoulder and well let down hocks with a strong second thigh producing excellent moderate profile movement which was a joy to see. He is definitely one to watch and should go all the way to the top.

2ND 1002 - Rozibon Adventure Begins (Mrs J Monks)

An attractive 8 month old with lovely dark eyes and well set ears, he has a big black and tan puppy coat that hid his outline a little. He was another very confident and forward going puppy but a little short in back at this stage which did not give him quite the free movement of 1 today on this difficult carpet . All the time in the world on his side to grow into himself and will watch him with interest..

145. German Spitz (Mittel) - Junior Dog

1ST 976 - Izlou Thai Me Up (Miss C & Miss I Doheny & King)

A 17 month old orange sable boy with a stunning masculine head, dark pigment, well shaped eyes and lovely ears .He carries his head well on correct shoulders has a beautiful outline completed by a strong second thigh and well let down hocks. He was not in full coat but there was nothing to hide he is spot on for size, a very promising boy .who has great style, just in that in between stage of growth today..

2ND 1006 - Longsdale's The Aviator (Mr G & Mr D Pearce & Francis

A dog I have loved from the ringside, he is an extremely handsome 14 month old black with a great outline and beautiful balance, he has good bone and tight feet, he is well ribbed back with a strong short loin that was lacking in some today. He has a good lay of shoulder, just needs to drop and fill in forechest to provide that strong tight front. Sadly today he just wouldn’t settle and move freely on the carpet,

3RD 1020 - Izlou Everday I'm Truffling at Flytesway (Mrs Id Wilson)

A 17 month old black with a good head and a really sweet expression I could have kissed him! He did not have quite the shoulder and neck of the first two boys but he is a nice young lad with a lot of promise, it is not a bad thing for these youngsters to need time to mature, they will go on longer than most early maturers who can tend to go overblown..

146. German Spitz (Mittel) - Post Graduate Dog

1ST 985 - Doroluna If The Crown Fits (Dr L Drew)

A brown of great deep colour, and in lovely coat, he has a good masculine head, just needing to fill in cheek to produce the finished picture.. He has a well balanced outline with a well laid should which allows him to carry his head correctly, he is a little high on the leg, just needs to fill out and develop all through and there is only one thing he needs, which is time.

2ND 982 - Kitsune Gypsy King (ai) (Mr D & Mrs S & Miss M & Miss N Chapman)

A 2 year old black who was on the large side, with a very attractive head and eye, he is strongly made all through with lots of substance topped off with a dense coat. He is well off for bone and has good moderate angulation, I would like tighter feet and slightly more rear angulation but he moved out well and carried a strong outline....

3RD 998 - Grizwold Odin at Louchelle (Mrs M L & Mr A Lewis)

This lad has a lovely orange sable coat and attractive head and eye, he is compact in body with good moderate angulation and he moved well in profile although a bit unsteady to and fro on the carpet. He is well ribbed and has good bone and feet.

RES 1010 - Nosregor Sticking Around (Miss L Rogerson)

1ST, RCC 997 - Unospitz's Onix The Rock of Catwalk Caddy (Mrs M S Schrøder)

What a beauty this glamorous pale gold dog is, not quite two and not in full coat, he won this class on his glorious free correct movement. He is so well balanced with a beautiful shoulder and upper arm, strong well let down hocks and well muscled second thigh .His profile movement was a delight, where he scores over many dogs is in his well ribbed back ribcage and short loin, giving the desired top line and a well set tail and well carried head to complete the gorgeous outline. If he had been in full coat he may have taken the Top Spot,, a dog I wish were mine.

2ND 983 - Kitsune Notorious (ai) (Mr D & Mrs S & Miss M & Miss N Chapman)

This boy is two years old and incredibly glamorous with his big sable coat and stunning head markings He has a lovely head with dark well set eyes, a strong muzzle and well set ears He is well off for bone with nice feet and good to and fro movement. He is on the large side all through and quite compact and short in rib which did not produce the free moderate profile movement of 1 today, but he is very eye catching indeed.,

3RD 1018 - Jansanleis Night Fever (Mrs J Smith)

A beautiful cream boy of 18 months who was not in full coat, he has a most attractive head and eye with excellent dark pigment and well set ears, he has good bone and well set and carried tail .He is slightly long in loin but has a good outline, set off by his full tail. Like 2 he was not moving freely today. .

1ST, CC, BOB 978 - Ch Izlou Shiver Me Timbers (Ms L & Miss I Barnes & King)

A difficult class filled with top quality dogs, this 5 year old male handled the floor impeccably and is so well trained he never put a foot wrong. He is an impressive mature male with a head to die for, his eye set and shape is gorgeous and his expression is melting .He was in full perfectly presented coat and has a beautifully balanced outline when moving. He is neither stilted nor extravagant in movement, he is a square dog when you get your hands under the coat with the correct 50/50 leg body ratio, and is a prime example of the beauty to be found in balance and moderation which are the desired German Spitz characteristics

Winning his 21st CC Today. .

2ND 980 - Ch/ir Ch/int Ch Izlou Float Ma Boat (Mrs E Blight)

Litter brother to the winner and similar in quality, he is a little more compact in body and carries a big stand off coat which can hide his outline. He has a beautiful head and expression, lovely bone and feet and his movement is beautifully balanced and moderate. Today his brother had the edge on slightly freer movement on this surface, would love to judge them again on grass, I have admired this dog since he was a pup.

3RD 1007 - Ch Longsdales Rebel Rouser at Cwrtafon JW (Mr G, Mr D & Mrs D Pearce, Francis & Roberts)

A majestic black male again 5 years old, so well balanced and with well laid shoulders and well angulated rear. His coat was gleaming and he has a beautiful head and expression with a lovely arch to his neck. I was so sad that he could not seem to settle on the move and was leaning against the lead, I know from watching him at shows that he has super movement but today was not his day.

1ST, CC, BVIB- 999 - Ch Jansanleis Mayhem JW (Mrs J, Miss S & Miss L J Moir)

What a joy to go over this fabulous 12 year old bitch, she is a pale gold not quite in full coat but she still looked the part. She has an excellent outline both standing and moving and a beautifully balanced construction with strong well let down hocks and a well developed second thigh. She excels in shoulder placement allowing her to carry her head correctly She was beautifully presented and just got better as the day went on. She is just beginning to show some age related signs in her face which cost her when going against the dog for BOB, what an honour to be able to award this girl her 28th and special Crufts CC. .

2ND 1019 - Int Ch Clarmers Talking Mischief with Kelmorespitz Lux Jr Ch Bjwlu17 (Miss L C Thomas)

A seven year old black girl in her underwear today, she has a well made body with balanced angulation and a good length of neck and well placed shoulder. She moved well in all directions and kept a strong outline.

.

151. German Spitz (Mittel) - Puppy Bitch

1ST-BPIB 1004 - Longsdale Let Da Games Begin (Mr G & Mr D Pearce & Francis)

A beautiful cream girl with a lovely head and dark well shaped eyes, she was in super coat and presented beautifully. She has a sturdy body with good depth of brisket and spring of rib. She holds a strong topline with a correct high tail set. Her movement for me is not typical moderate spitz at this stage, she drives around the ring, her overall quality made her the winner but I do hope she steadies into correct moderate movement as she matures because she is so glamorous.. .

2ND 1014 - Lindcoly She's A Knockout (Mr C J & Mrs L M Saich)

A gorgeous well made cream sable girl with a big coat and personality to match, she has a very attractive head and sweet expression, well shaped dark eyes, an almost flat skull and used her ears well. Her heavy coat made her appear a bit short on the leg but she is the desired 50/50 height proportions and she has a good spring of rib and depth of chest. She was very naughty on the move but I did manage to see enough to assess her movement which was good especially in profile, a really lovely baby

3RD 981 - Kitsune Coronation Queen NAF (Mr D & Mrs S & Miss M & Miss N Chapman)

This pretty black girl has a pleasing head and eye, she is well off for bone with a good outline and a decent depth of rib, she has well let down hocks and moved well in profile but was unsteady in to and fro movement which hopefully will improve as she strengthens and matures, she will flow on a grass surface’.

RES 1008 - Kitsune Cream Fudge (Mrs J Purves)

152. German Spitz (Mittel) - Junior Bitch

1ST 979 - Izlou The Truffle Maker (Ms L & Miss I Barnes & King)

What a pretty black girl, she has a lovely head and expression, and good overall balance with a well placed forehand and good neck. She has well let down hocks and she stands on neat tight feet and moves with style.. She is not a big girl and was not in full coat but has enough bone and substance.for her size

153. German Spitz (Mittel) - Post Graduate Bitch

1ST 986 - Doroluna's Diamond Crown (Dr L Drew)

A two year old black girl with a charming feminine head and attractive expression, she has well shaped dark eyes and good ear set. She was out of coat which made her look on the light side but she has sufficient substance and still has time to mature. She held a good outline in profile movement, with a strong topline but was a bit erratic coming and going.

154. German Spitz (Mittel) - Limit Bitch

1ST 989 - Nosregor Cassiopeia at Shelayne (Ms M Fitton)

Such a beautiful sable girl with oodles of personality, she has a really beautiful head and expression, with slightly large dark eyes, a well filled muzzle and lovely spitz wedge head accentuated by the stunning sable markings. She is not big but is very well balanced and has good bone and substance with good muscle which shows in her strong movement in all directions. She pushed hard for the RCC today, one I just adore.

2ND 1000 - Jansanleis Rave (Mrs J, Miss S & Miss L J Moir)

A less mature cream girl who is at the opposite end of the scale, she has a beautiful dark well shaped eye and excellent pigment, her head still needs to fill for that beautiful spitz expression to be highlighted. At this stage she is a little long which helps her in movement as she is very well angulated, she needs to fill out and come together and has time on her side, another on the verge of exaggerated movement around the ring, hope she steadies up on the move because she has so much going for her

3RD 987 - Izlou Peanut Passion (Dr L Drew)

A five year old black bitch who is not big but is well made all through, she was in lovely gleaming coat and moved well in all directions, she has a well ribbed and deep chest which makes her look a little low on the leg as she was in full coat, but is well balanced when you get your hands on her.

1ST-RCC- 1005 - Ch Longsdale Miss Mussell (Mr G & Mr D Pearce & Francis)

A stunning four year old cream sable bitch I have greatly admired from the ringside. She has a simply beautiful head, with a good spitz wedge, strong but still feminine with a dark well shaped eye and such a lovely expression. She is well balanced all through, with good bone and feet, well laid shoulder and upper arm and well let down hocks with good bone and beautiful tight feet. Sadly like a few of the bitches today she did not seem settled even on the table and her movement was unsteady which cost her the CC. I understand about bitches coming into and out of season but I judge the dogs on the day and she was just not having a great day. She is still one of my all time favourites and I hope I get to see her again. .

2ND 1003 - Cadasaro Keep The Faith (Mr K O'leary)

Another real beauty, her head and expression are gorgeous, well shaped and well set eyes and her super dark pigment against her pale cream coat is lovely. She has well placed shoulder and upper arm and a well angulated rear producing movement that today was on the verge of too much, she has a stunning outline with well set and carried tail on the move, she frustratingly tended to drop her tail somewhat when standing, which today cost her the RCC, if she steadies up in movement as she matures she will go all the way to the top and then some., .

3RD 993 - Ch Daraydala Missouri of Grizwold (Mrs C J King)

Another really lovely girl, she is black and was in quite good coat ,very unlucky to meet two such outstanding girls here today, she has good bone and well laid shoulders, ,she did not quite have the outline of 1 and 2 when standing but held it well on the move around the ring, she was another bitch whose movement to and fro was unsteady today but I bet she comes into her own on grass

RES 1012 - Ch Nosregor Unforgettable (Mr D T & Mrs P A Rogerson)

1ST 994 - Grizwold Oops A Daisy (Mrs C J King)

I have to say I love this girl, she is the picture of moderate, and therefore correct , a cream sable parti with a very pretty head, dark well set eyes and small ears. She is a sound mover in all directions and held her outline well, she has good bone with nice feet and well let down hocks which she used well on the move, I hope she makes it to the top because she has everything going for her and just needs time to mature to complete the picture...
