Border Union Agricultural Society

Breed: Chihuahua (Smooth Coat)

Chihuahua (Smooth Coat)

Thank you to Border Union for inviting me to award CCs in this breed for the first time. I had a quality entry with some quality exhibits to go over. In some classes I was splitting hairs and in others, the quality was so high that some dogs had to go unplaced or further down the line. My thanks must go to my able stewards for keeping the ring running smoothly and to the exhibitors for their sportsmanship and bringing their dogs for me to assess.

Minor Puppy Dog (5)

1st Stading’s Toltechi’s Dante Le Poete - Lovely tri puppy presenting a good outline. Wouldn’t like him any taller however his many qualities shone through to win him this well filled class of babies. Handsome head with well rounded skull, defined stop and muzzle of correct length. Lovely dark round eyes, full of mischief, well spaced and of good size. Large, flaring ears which he used well. Nice neck fitting seamlessly into well laid shoulders. Chest developing well for age. Correct body length, level topline kept at all times. Ribs well sprung and carried well back. Loin short. Hindquarters sound with good angulation. High set tail of correct carriage. Moved positively from all angles.

2nd Holmes’ Cazants Biggysmallz - Really admired this youngster, just lacking a little confidence today, however has plenty of time on his side to gain it! Head of good proportions, apple domed with short pointed muzzle. Dark, large round eye of good size and set. Good ears, large and of correct set. Neck of good length, slightly arched and fitting into a sound front assembly. Forelegs well set under him, straight with neat feet. Proportionate body of correct length, well ribbed back, short loin, level topline. Well angulated rear with well bent stifles and low set parallel hocks. High set sickle tail. Moved soundly.

Sickle tail set high and of correct carriage. Moved with confidence.

2nd Huntley’s Jahneemahs Fancy Man - I really loved this typy puppy however he was not a happy boy today and refused to cooperate for his handler. Beautiful head of good proportions, well rounded skull, good stop and muzzle of correct length, lovely dark pigment. Large, round expressive eyes, ears of correct shape, size and set. Neck neck into a sound front assembly, good depth of chest and forelegs well set under him. Good length to body, if being picky would like him slightly shorter in loin.
