I was thrilled to be invited to give my first set of CCs at this very well run show and thank the officers and committee for giving me the opportunity. It is a breed I love and owned and exhibited in the 1990s.
I thought the quality of the exhibits was excellent and I had to make some very tough decisions.

1ST 3859 - Fiducia Everest (Dr Wr & Mrs Sa Davies) Almost 12 mths strongly boned brown roan who is a tad leggy at the moment. He carries a strong topline, has a good forechest, decent ribs and depth and a well set on tail. He has a lean and well balanced head, kind expression and moves steadily although a bit proud of his tail. BPIB.

1ST 3888 - Rubino Spinone del Mucrone with Riccini (Imp Ita) (Mrs S & Mr P Whittingham & Wright). 13 mths white and orange who shows great promise. He is very well balanced and presents a great shape. He is well off for bone and substance, has plenty of forechest and stands on large round feet with his hind feet a shade more oval. He is wide at the shoulders, has big ribs carried well back and good tail set. His head is so handsome and his expression is to die for. Moved on a pounding trot.

1ST 3855 - Sh Ch Affilato You Can Bank On It (Ms J & Mr L & Mrs C Clark & Sharp & Sharp) There is a clause in the breed standard that requires the Spinone to be capable of a fast trot and this dog illustrates just that. Not mentioned in the standard is the tick-tock tail action and even though he is undocked his tail still goes like a metronome and is carried on a level with his back. He is full of breed type, has a coarse, dense coat and is strongly boned. I loved his wide bum and thighs and his good bend of stifle; and he has dewclaws. He is a super young dog who I seriously considered for top honours. No surprise that he already carries his title.
2245. Italian Spinone - Post Graduate Dog

1ST 3864 - Ellisbell Piaggio (Mrs V A Glazik). He presented the best square shape in the class but I would have liked a little more return of upper arm. He has a broad chest, deep well sprung ribs, lovely wide and well muscled quarters and an excellent bend of stifle. His head is well balanced with divergent planes and long low set ears. He is a bit proud of his tail on the move and is true coming towards but a tad close behind.
2ND 3862 - Lucoru Blow A Fuse at Cloudnine (Mr G & Miss C Fordham). He was giving away a bit of maturity today so couldn’t match the spring of rib of the winner but this will come with age. He has a wonderful head and fine pendulous ears that frame it beautifully. Has a strong side gait and excellent tail carriage.
3RD 3876 - Diggmere Marys Chi Bloom (Ms 0 & Mr P Mcgregor & Wright)
2246. Italian Spinone - Limit Dog
Entries: 5 Absentees: 2. There were some difficult decisions made in this class. Places could easily change another day.
1ST 3886 - Affilato Just You Wait (Ms L Welton). Squarely built with a wide chest, strong bone, deep brisket, well sprung ribs and strong wide quarters. He has excellent head planes, good furnishings and a shortish powerful neck. Moves on a very relaxed stride.
2ND 3869 - Bessalone Shameless (Mrs S, Miss S & Miss I Knowles & Glen). Longer cast than the winner and I would like less tuck up. That said he is a good example of the breed but was somewhat out of coat today.
3RD 3858 - Lucoru Blown over (Mr P J & Mrs T A Culling)
2247. Italian Spinone - Open Dog

1ST 3868 - Sh Ch Bessalone Peaky Blinders (Mrs S, Miss S & Miss I Knowles & Glen) He simply oozes breed type; vigorous, robust, squarely built, solidly constructed with strong bone and well developed muscles. At 5 years old this white & orange dog is at the top of his game. On the stack he presents a classic Spinone outline with his short neck, pronounced sternum, subtle fall and rise of his topline, slightly sloping croup and low tail set. His head is balanced in length with a lean skull, divergent planes and has the distinctive roof like appearance. His expression is so mild and soft and he looks right into your soul. He has thick skin and a close fitting wire coat with lush facial furnishings. He holds his shape on the move and has excellent head and tail carriage. He moves with a pounding gait; you can almost hear him coming. Delighted to award him the CC and BOB.
2ND 3873 - Sh Ch Inostricani Bell Ragazzo via Krismoor JW (Miss C J Littlemore) Another cracking dog who has a fabulous Spinone topline with a clear break at the 11th vertebra. He has width and depth to his chest, well laid shoulders and good return of upper arm placing his legs well under his body. His underline complements his overall shape showing his depth of chest and minimal tuck up. His head is balanced and with an obvious occiput and I love his big, spongy protruding nose. Just not in such good coat as the winner today. He has such a relaxed gait. RCC.

1ST 3851 - Princess Pea (Miss R Bovio). What a lovely youngster. She carries a typical topline, has depth and spring of rib, wide quarters, a lovely bend of stifle, well let down hocks, slightly sloping croup and excellent tail set. Good bone and excellent feet. She has a lovely head with good depth of muzzle and furnishings. She moves really well but carries her tail too high.
2ND 3884 - Dewdhala Sempre Agnese (Mrs D & Mr D Wagh). She was rather down in pastern today and could do with a good stripping to tidier her up. She has thick leathery skin under it though, is broad at the top of her shoulders, has a shortish neck with good arch and a roof like shape to her head. Moves and carries her tail well.
3RD 3857 - Montecani Twist by The River (Mrs L Cresswell)

1ST 3884 - Dewdhala Sempre Agnese (Mrs D & Mr D Wagh). Repeat.
2ND 3856 - Lucoru Perpetual Spring (Mrs L A Coldwell). A well made bitch but of a slighter build and is a tad longer. She has plenty of heart and lung room and a broad, muscular croup. Her head has divergent planes and a lean, oval skull and long low set ears. Preferred the tail carriage of the winner.
2255. Italian Spinone - Post Graduate Bitch

1ST 3879 - Talpalupo Monello (Mrs M Munro). Balanced and square and moves with a fabulous tick-tock tail. She has a great forehand, strong bone, plenty of substance and an excellent underline. Broad, wide quarters which she uses well to propel her forward. Pretty head with divergent planes and a soft expression. Liked her a lot.
2ND 3878 - Scodinzolare Photoulla (Mrs L Mortimer). She is straighter in angulation than the winner but is still balanced. She has such a lovely head and expression with a good depth of muzzle and long, pliable ears. Moves well but tends to pick up a bit in front. Good tail carriage though.
3RD 3889 - Bessalone Rainbow Drops (Mrs V N Wiles)
RES 3850 - Dalebourne Kore (Mrs H M W & Mr M R Banks)
2256. Italian Spinone - Limit Bitch
Entries: 6 Absentees: 2
1ST 3887 - Diggmere Cortona Sofia del Riccini (Mrs S & Mr C & Mr P Whittingham & Bexon & Wright). A very well made bitch who has big ribs that are carried well back and a lovely big bum. Her front is straight with oval bone and her quarters are wide with an excellent bend of stifle. She has the most beautiful head with the classic almost human expression. Holds herself well on the move.
2ND 3852 - Ilsolo River Island JW (Mrs K J & Mr G Bovio). She has a good return of upper arm and well laid shoulders but doesn’t have the width of quarters of the winner. Her croup could use more slope therefore her tail set is higher and she does carry it far too high. She has a wide chest and deep brisket and strong oval bone. Her eye was a bit loose today but her head furnishings are super and she has a wonderful spongy, protruding nose.
3RD 3877 - Scodinzolare Philomen (Mrs L Mortimer)

1ST 3871 - Amberellie Rosanna (Mrs P K Kruglow). She is exactly what I want in a Spinone bitch. Feminine with substance, exudes breed type and has no exaggeration whatsoever. She stacks so squarely and has the wonderful slight fall and rise to her topline, prominent breastbone, well laid shoulders, length and return of upper arm giving plenty of dog in front, big ribs, minimal tuck up, broad well muscled quarters and well turned stifles. Her head is so pretty and her eyes wonderfully expressive and it fits cleanly into her relatively short but well muscled neck. She has thick skin, a harsh coat and an excellent croup. She is so quietly and expertly handled and moves with a relaxed pounding trot. I said at the time that I had never seen her before but now that I’ve checked my notes, I see that she won yearling under me at the club show 2 years ago. I liked her then; I adore her now. It was my absolute pleasure to award her the CC which is her second I was told afterwards. Good luck for the future, you are a certain show champion.
2ND 3866 - Sh Ch Inostricani Fianna (Mrs K A James). A lovely type with a beautiful head and I liked her very much, particularly her tick-tock tail. She is robustly built, has strong bone and well developed muscles. In super coat with thick eyebrows, great moustache and beard a fabulous protruding nose. Didn’t have the tail carriage of the winner but pleased to award her the RCC.
3RD 3874 - Diggmere Gignese (Ms O Mcgregor)
2258. Italian Spinone - Veteran Bitch
Entries: 1 Absentees: 0
1ST 3885 - Sh Ch Prottino del Vera by Dewdhala (Mrs D & Mr D Wagh). She is a lovely make and shape but I felt she was looking a little matronly today. She has thick skin, a coarse coat, great forehand, plenty of heart and lung room, good croup and wide quarters. Would prefer more length of muzzle. Moves well. BV.
2259. Italian Spinone - Special Beginners Bitch
Entries: 2 Absentees: 0
1ST 3857 - Montecani Twist by The River (Mrs L Cresswell). She tends to stack rather straight behind but her well turned quarters can be seen when she moves. Good shape to her head with large protruding nose. Strong quarters and good tail set. Moves well. BSB.
2ND 3889 - Bessalone Rainbow Drops (Mrs V N Wiles). Taller bitch and not carrying the coat of the winner. Croup could be better but she has bone and substance and shows a clean pair of heels going away.
