Northern Counties Shetland sheepdog club Ch show, 07/04/24
Super entry & hospitality at NCSSC Ch show, where BIS, on agreement with my co-judge, was the impressive dog Ch Shellamoyed Gold Fever & BVIS the lovely ever young bitch, Shenachie Lyric of Light, a favourite of mine.RDCC/BPD was Grandgenes Kensington by Tooralie (BPIS on Referees decision) &BOS (Ch -subject to KC confirmation) Lundecock’s There’s no Limit at Lochkaren (ImpSwe) (RBIS on Referees decision).
I was very pleased on the whole with some lovely dogs who impressed greatly in their classes, but disappointingly did not deliver to their best in the challenge, the proximity of these boys seemed to affect the focus of one or two, who were more interested in ‘sparring and being macho’ than concentrating on their job in hand. On another day, in a bigger ring & perhaps outside, others may come more to the fore. However there were several disappointing animals when you got under the coat, had very poor toplines, very short steep upper arm, too much width in the fore quarters, and incorrectly shaped, poorly padded (or flat) feet, -hardly fit for function, albeit may have had appealing heads and expressions.
Dogs MPD (5,2 abs)
1.Fisher’s Lavika the Tempest at Shellamoyed: very raw tri boy with a really dense jet black glossy coat, totally over awed today and extremely unsettled, but has the construction one yearns, superb to go over, really lovely rear angulation ,short hock, excellent bone and feet, strong level topline, good neck and front and a neat balanced head with a dark eye, lovely pigmentation and good sized ,placed and tipped ears. Needs plenty of time and confidence boosting, but surely one to watch.
2.Jeavon’s Grandgenes Hey Good Lookin-: very eye catching & well-schooled s/w boy, with very mature outlook for age, put down to perfection, in excellent coat- performs like a veteran in total contrast to1. Very appealing head and expression, nicely rounded foreface with good underjaw. Correct bone, good spring of rib and length of loin. Moved true, makes a super picture, another with a very bright future no doubt; just preferred construction of 1.
3.Rutherford’s Myter Black Tarquin at Stormhead

1.Walker’s Grandgenes Kensington by Tooralie, well grown masculine s/w youngster with super outline, loved his strong level topline, length of neck and balanced body, lovely depth of chest, well angulated both ends. Very well-muscled lean and athletic dog, who moves out with drive, well boned straight front legs and well-padded tight correctly shaped feet, in lovely coat. Has a lean flat skull, lovely teeth and tight lips;head of parallel planes, enough stop, dark eye however not the sweetest of expressions but an impressive quality dog of substance with a make and shape to be proud of, who gave of his best today against some of the best. BPD/RCC.
2.Fenton’s Shannmie’s Dark Arches: to my surprise same sire as 1, and a lot in common, slightly smaller frame, but well-balanced body and good outline, nice spring of rib, well angulated, good bone, level topline and good length of neck. Nice length of head and lean flat skull, enough stop, correct dark eye. In excellent flat correctly textured double coat of rich colour, needs to come out of himself a little and a bit more time but a very promising pup.
3.Thompson’s Lochdee Dark Galaxy

1.Simpson & Main’s Shenachie Secretariat: Sensible sized, refined and elegant glamorous light golden boy put down in lovely coat who excels in type and appeal. Super quality one-piece lean head, with lovely flat skull, not an ounce of excess weight in his head, smooth lines, flat cheeks and lovely foreface with round muzzle. Well set and used ears and a lovely expression, a bit unsettled in the challenge, strong topline, well carried on the move, neat mover, nicely balanced all through, look forward to seeing him when fully mature. Has such promise.
2. Fenton’s Shannmie’s Cartier: Well-balanced tri boy of very nice type with a good outline, soundly made with good bone and correct legs and feet, moved out true all ways, another promising youngster who needs a little more time to come into his own.Lovely length of head of correct planes, good ear carriage, showed well.
3.Hodgdon’s Brown Sugar of Silverlight (Imp Rom)
YD(7,1 abs)
1.Walker’s Tooralie’s Tornade: Black and white dog of lovely size, excellent front angulation with setback of front legs, good length of back with correctly set nice long tail, level topline. Superb muscle condition behind with well angulated stifle and strongly developed second thigh missing on so many dogs! Nicely balanced head with flat skull, neat almond dark eye, pleasing expression and a lovely, tapered foreface. Good sized strong white teeth, tight lips and good pigmentation. Moved really well in his class & when he puts his mind to it, however in the challenge was somewhat over-hyped and being unchecked, then disappointed in both his movement and final performance which cost him.
2.Stafford’s Rannerdale the Tramp: A Lot to like in this very glamorous, striking, beautifully presented dog with lovely rich sable fitted jacket, white collar and attractive blaze markings; Unfortunately, was just a little unsettled today. Has a nice flat skull, lovely length of head flowing into a well moulded foreface. Good size and topline, strong bone, pleasing bodylines, although slightly shorter coupled dog, moved ok, would prefer tighter front feet.
3. Brown Sugar of Silverlight (Imp Rom)
MD(3,1abs)
1. Lavika the Tempest at Shellamoyed -Had settled a bit more by this class to begin to show off his lovely shape.
2. Rutherford’s Myter Black Tarquin at Stormhead – Beautifully schooled very raw tri baby with the most lovely disposition, very happy ,tail wagging chap who stood and showed really well, glossy jet black coat, really enjoying his day out , sweet head, dark expressive eye , enviable ears for one so young, level topline, moved along freely, still a little narrow through at the moment but will be interesting to watch his development.

1. Shannmie’s Dark Arches
2. Hodgdon’s Brown Sugar of Silverlight (Imp Rom), Young dark sable boy of good type who needs more time. Good topline, spot on for size. 3. Myter Black Tarquin at Stormhead
GD(3,2 abs)
1.Varnom’s Milesend Black Tartan, sound, no nonsense workmanlike tri just a bit longer on the leg, true mover, adequate neck, but his thick short coat makes him look rather short, nice flat skull; and well tapered smooth foreface with nice clean cheeks, slightly fuller dark eye , keen showman.
PGD(7,1 abs)
1.Brady’s Afterglow Sky Miles to Bordercot, Blue merle presented in super coat. Excellent forequarters and angulation, tall enough but so well made and no sign of heaviness or coarseness. Great spring of rib, lovely bend of stifle, good strong back and loin, well-muscled neck -lovely to watch on the move when in profile, with a lovely extension and reach -front action and good drive behind, head is of good proportions, however slightly high over the brows, well used ears, not so settled indoors today.
2.Dimmock’s Shougies Secret Agent for Fernhill-Close up, a very worthy dog, Tri very well presented, spot- on for size, so well-schooled, with a lovely, fitted jacket and a super outline & topline, lovely neck, moved ok, slightly heavier in foreface than 1 and not the extension in front today.
3. Rutherford’s Midsummer Blue at Stormhead
LD(10,2 abs)
1.Norris’ Ferngrove’s Valentino JW -Wow, I was really taken by this dog, totally new to me, not so glamorous as 2, but oozes quality and was so sound on the move in his class, thought he may be my overall winner today….superb angulation and so well put together ,beautifully balanced head and expression, very appealing dog, in lovely coat with a very mature outlook, kept pulling me back in his class, pleased to note he was by my ultimate CC winner- has the same qualities of head and expression, one surely destined for top draw -however in the challenge was another who succumbed to bravado and disappointingly did not move as controlled as he had earlier .
2.Mottram’s Lundecock’s Hoopie-Doo at Lochkaren JW (Imp Swe); well-known dog who I’ve liked before, very glamorous light golden sable/white mature boy in full bloom, superbly presented and handled today, very unlucky to meet 1, just not quite the fleetness of foot nor the refined head and softness of expression of 1 for me today.
3.Thornley’s Felthorn Cover Story
OD(3, 0abs)
1. Walker’s Multi Int Ch. Tooralie’s Pie in the Sky , very attractive dark shaded s/w in lovely coat and my favourite colour, who appeals greatly, one I’ve greatly admired, beautifully balanced sound dog with a super topline ,good reach and drive , lovely spring of rib, strong round bone, good planes to his head, nice flat skull, good dark eye, moved ok and carried super tail and topline on the move in his class -just not the sweetness in expression of my overall winner & was a little distracted by kennel mates in the challenge today.
2.Hull’s Mohnesee’s dream Date of Lizmark JW; very neat s/w dog of nice size ,with the sweetest of heads and a beautifully moulded foreface , such a pleasing expression ;presented in great coat with a full spring of rib and level topline, moved ok going away, preferred 1 in front & longer tail.

1. Fisher’s Ch Shellamoyed Gold Fever – one whose head I’ve often admired and was delighted & not disappointed to have the hands-on experience! super dog -all fits together so well, elegant, quality, balanced boy whose build & bodylines compliment his excellent head qualities. Moved true, with the best of feet, superbly put down in light golden coat and so schooled -gave of his best and was well deserved of DCC & BIS.
2. Stafford’s Ch Rannerdale Showmaster Immaculately presented well known balanced boy with a good head, lovely expression, and very pleasing foreface, carrying bit more weight over the ribs and front so not quite so positive in front or as lithe as main winners today.

Sp OD Tri/B/W./ B/T (3,2abs)
1.Doyle’s Sevenoaks So Perfect Duke Des Romarins De Mayerling (ATC FR) Very well-muscled tri who excels in rear angulation, very good bone, with beautifully presented glossy black fitted jacket and carries an excellent topline on the move and standing, ultra lean throughout. Nice dark eye, neat ears, nice foreface, a touch angular in head. Stood and showed well. Needs a little more coverage over ribs for me.
