Southern Border Collie Club

Breed: Border Collie

SOUTHERN BORDER COLLIE CLUB CH SHOW – 12th AUGUST 2024

Held in conjunction with Bournemouth Canine Association Ch show, it was an honour to be invited here and firstly my sincere thanks to all the SBBC Committee, helpers and friends and also to the stewards in the BCA ring where the breed was also being judged, albeit an hour earlier. It is never an easy task to arrange 2 Ch shows on the same day and the extreme heat did make it difficult, not only for the exhibitors but some of the exhibits were affected too! I would like to thank all the exhibitors for not only the acceptance of my awards but also for their understanding when classes were paused in favour of BCA.

However, I thought the overall quality in the females exceeded that of the males but having said that, I found some lovely males for top awards. I did notice a lack of angulation in the shoulders and some rather upright upper arms. Movement on the whole was ok with some excellent ground coverage both ways but do watch your hind movement as many are far too close and lack drive.

MINOR PUPPY (3/1)

1. Lee & Ratcliffe: JAYBOB THE SHINING, well grown male of good size. Pleasing head and adequate bone for age. Liked his attitude and movement,

2. Kempton: ART OF BLOSSOM DROWNED IN EMOTION INTO BORDERBROOK, another well made boy whose head and expression pleased me, however he does need to tighten in rear movement but age is much on his side

PUPPY (3/0)

1. Portman LACEWAY BLACK SABBATH, who appealed for size and outline, Perhaps a tad wider in back skull than I was looking for but a pleasing balanced head with good eye. Good outline and bone. Moved freely in both directions, BPD

2.

3. JAYBOB THE SHINING

4. ART OF BLOSSOM DROWNED IN EMOTION INTO BORDERBROOK

JUNIOR (3/0)

1. Mead & Geering: QUINTOPIA MASTER OF PUPPETS (A1) – this boy has many of the attributes I was looking for. Very typical balanced head, good length of body, adequate shoulder placement, ample bone for his age and good feet

2. Gregory: TONKORY WAIT AND SEE, aptly named boy who is still at that “in-between” stage in his career and he was not at all settled, but quite positive on the move and given time should do well

3. SMIT-SIRAAL/SMIT & WILTSHIRE: FROM BORDERSHOME KRYPTONITE

YEARLING (1/0)

1. Lee & Green: FAYKEN I AM SOUL JW, not in the best of coats but hiding nothing. Good head and expression, well made all over, moved well and gave a nice outline when standing

NOVICE (3/1)

1. ART OF BLOSSOM DROWNED IN EMOTION INTO BORDERBROOK

2. SMIT-SIRAAL/SMIT & WILTSHIRE: FROM BORDERSHOME KRYPTONITE, moved up from previous class, another pleasing boy but not the expression I was looking for, balanced head, good outline

POST GRADUATE ( 4/1)

1. Castle: JUPAVIA DIVINE DREAM, nicely made lad perhaps a tad too long in the body at this stage. Pleasing head and expression, well placed eye. Nice shoulders and moved well enough to take this class

3. Shahmatova: NASHDOM ALL EYES ON YOU JW, another nice lad not as mature as 1) and I would prefer more bone and substance. Pleasing head and expression.

4. Tunnicliffe LITTLETHORN IONIQ

LIMIT (6/1)

1. Green & Paterson: ARRODARE FAMILY TRADITION, smaller type of boy, good topline. Liked his head and foreface. Good eye. Held topline well on move and was true in both directions.

2. HARTFIELD; MOSHANTA MAY CONTAIN NUTS, one I have judged before but today, perhaps due to the heat was not at all settled. Liked his size and outline. Pleasing head, moved quite easily.

3. Chance: GOYTRE CHANCE TO REFLECT

OPEN (6/1)

1. Akester & Wiltshire: SH CH THAITLAKE BUZZMAN, this gentleman made my day and this was exactly what I was looking for. A dog who could work all day and has all the attributes needed. Lovely head, well balanced, good eye and that correct expression, in tune with his handler. Good shoulder, well placed ribbing and correct length of back. Ample bone, good feet and to see this boy move, even in the intense heat was a pleasure, he never put a paw wrong and stood and asked for this class and even in the challenge I could not deny him the CC, and I am sure there are many more to come.

2. Green & Ratcliffe: SH CH FAYKEN TRUTH OR DARE WITH ARRODARE JW, another splendid boy but he lost out today as I felt he was somewhat tired in the heat and subsequently was not as positive when moving away but soon picked up and moved quite freely. Slightly longer in the body than 1) and not quite the expression I was looking for but still took home the RDCC

3. Shahmatova; NASHDOM PUTTING ON THE STYLE

MINOR PUPPY BITCH (6/2)

1. Lee & Ratcliffe: JAYBOB CHILDS PLAY, l/s to winner of MPD but not as mature. Just needs time to grow up but she has a good outline, liked her size and shape, possibly one for the future

2. Green,Ratclffe & Green: BORDERPRIDE LACED IN TRUTH BY FAYKEN, promising young lady who was slightly affected by the heat and did not appear happy to be handled. One another day, she would have probably taken this class easily but I felt she was not 100% in the ring.

PUPPY (3/0)

1. Kempton: BORDERBROOK LUCKY IN LOVE, nicely made young bitch, well off for bone, good size. Pleasing head, liked her eye and expression. Good neck and outline and moved easily, I hear this win gives her a well-deserved JW – Congratulations

2. JAYBOB CHILDS PLAY

3. CALERETO NORWEGIAN WOOD

JUNIOR (5/1)

1. Angier & Stacey: BILARA ISN’T SHE LOVELY (AI), what a pleasure to see, she has the head and expression I was looking for. Good head, balanced, liked her eye and ear set. Good neck and shoulders, she appealed for her overall construction and when asked, moved easily to cover the ground, pushed hard for the RBCC

2. BORDERBROOK LUCKY IN LOVE

3. ALPANA SUMMER STORM

YEARLING (6/0)

1. Kempton: GEOGEOUS GIA BORDERS KINGDOM VIA BORDERBROOK, appealed for her overall type and outline. Pleasing head, nice eye, good bone and body, moved well to take this class

2. Wilkinson: ALTRICIA BOBBYS GIRL, a blue of good colour, heavier in construction than winner and her head is slightly wider and deeper than I prefer. In super coat, and when settled moved easily around the ring.

3. Smit-Siraal/Smit & Wiltshire: FROM BORDERS HOME JARDIN DE ROSAS

 NOVICE(6/2)

1. Preston: CALARETO NORWEGIAN WOOD, this little lady was sadly affected by the heat in an earlier class but recovered well to take this class easily. Good outline, nice size. Lovely temperament and a pleasing head and expression and moved well.

2. Smit-Siraal/Smit & Wiltshire FROM BORDERS HOME JARDIN DE ROSAS, placed 3rd a previous class but deserved her place here. Liked her outline and shoulders but not quite the expression I was looking for.

3. SHEMELLA APRIL SHOWERS

POST GRADUATE (8/2)

1. Milham ELYSTARI THIS MUST BE LOVE JW, quite promising young lady very typical of her breed. Good head and foreface. Good Body and ample bone moved easily to win this class.

2. Chatee; CALARETO WILD HONEY PIE, a much smaller lady who is made quite well but not quite the type I prefer but she is constructed well. Moved quite well.

3. Davies: LESNUAGES QUEEN BEE

LIMIT (14/2)

A good class of differing types but all well deserving of their wins.

1. Kinton: KINAWAY KISSES WITH FIRE (AI) very pleasing bitch of good size and outline. I liked her head and expression, ample neck, good shoulders and ample bone. In super condition but not quite as positive on the move today probably due to the intense heat.

2. Kempton: BORDERBROOK WINTER SUNSET JW ShCex OSW much smaller type than winner, very attentive to handler when standing. Good body, in super condition. Moved easily

3. Lampier: PENCOPPEN JOYEUX SOIREE.

OPEN (8/3)

1. Green & Ratcliffe: SH CH FAYKEN I AM LOVE JW, Hard to believe the age on this lovely lady and she well belies it. Well balanced head, good stop and ear placing. Ample neck and good body although today, not in the best of jackets but well deserved this class.

2. Lee & Ratcliffe: SH CH ARRODARE SHOWDOWN JW, another classy bitch, of good size and had ample bone. Good head, lovely outline and another not affected by the heat who moved easily with drive.

3. Smit-Siraal/Smit & Wiltshire; FROM BORDERS HOME HESTIA MAGIC FIRE

SPECIAL OPEN (6/0)

1. Angier & Stacey: BILYARA DONATELLA DEI ROVI, what a stunning little lady. Everything about her was exactly what I was looking for, Presentation was perfect, her coat gleamed and in great condition. Lovely head and foreface, well placed stop Good neck and shoulders, Level top-line and she moved so easily. Pleased to give this class and the BCC, her 2nd, hope No 3 is not too far away.

3. Shahmatova: NASHDOM LA VIE EST BELLE JW.

VETERAN (5/1)

What a lovely class of mature ladies, all deserving of their day out but headed by

1. Hoskins: SH CH BIRKCROSS GRACIE AT LEFEVRE, another quality bitch who is so deserving of her title. Presented in super condition. Lovely head and expression, good neck and shoulders. Loved her outgoing temperament. She just appealed for her overall quality and type, pleased to award her, not only the RBCC but BVIS. A credit to her owner for keeping her in such good condition

2. Shahmatova: TONKORY I’LL BE THERE FOR YOU NASHDON JW, another who appealed for her type and movement but today felt the heat and was not as positive as I am sure she can be on the move
