Breed: Australian Shepherd

I thoroughly enjoyed judging this breed today, great to see some promising youngsters coming through the ranks but rather surprised at the amount of exhibits who were lacking in length of leg, ironically most of them moving exceedingly well!

PD (2) 1 and BPD Browns Archie Labakan Slovakia (imp Skj) b/w d with ample bone and substance, pleasing head with dark eye and well set ears, moderate length of neck and a well constructed front with good width to forechest and depth of brisket, strong topline and nicely angulated in the rear, presented in full coat but I would have preferred a little less of it to better emphasise his shape. Very together and sound on the move displaying smooth and sound action 2 Douglas and Moisi Winstead Follow My Heart what a sweetheart ! Looking rather raw against the winner but lots to like here, lovely head with a most charming expression, excellent front with straight bone to compact feet, moderately angular end in the rear with short strong hocks, he is quite a confident mover but rather loose in front action. Lots to please here.

JD (1) 1 Archie Labakan Slovakia (imp Skj)

PGD (4,1) 1 Jarram, Jarram and Whittingham Chalksville Strike A Deal With Kashaella JW this 23mth tri dog was an easy winner of this class, he has been well schooled which gave him an advantage and he was presented in fabulous coat and condition. Good head shape with dark expressive eye and well used ears, slightly arched neck of moderate length into well laid shoulders with a firm topline to moderate hind angulation, he covered the ground freely and easily although just a tad close behind on the away. I’ve no doubts this lad will be challenging for top honours very soon. 2 Haddock’s Glamour Aussie's Easy Rider Jicarilla (imp Hun) 3.5 yr Merle who is slightly longer cast than the winner, he has a masculine head with good width of skull but I would have liked a better ear set, forelegs are straight and well boned and he has a firm level topline, Moved out soundly enough. 3 Bottomleys Shulune Secret Wizard

LD (5) 1 Jarram, Jarram and Whittinghams Chalksville's Azrael At Kashaella 3 yr light red Merle, a well proportioned male with an excellent head and eye, slightly arched neck flowing into a good lay of shoulder, he has a good length of upper arm and correct height to length proportions with a moderate bend of stifle giving a balanced outline, on the move he displayed good reach and drive holding his topline. I’ve not changed my opinion of this dog, I admired him as a youngster and he was my RCC winner back in 2022 so I would love to have done him better but he seemed just a little unsettled today which cost him in the challenge. 2 Cowley Sparkaway Ladies Man tri of just 14 months with a gorgeous head and expressive dark almond eye, he has an excellent front with good width of forechest and depth of brisket, straight well bones forelegs to compact feet, I loved him on the move where he covered the ground with such an easy and free gait, pushed the winner hard but I just preferred 1’s length of leg , I’m hoping he might grow an inch or two as his movement is stunning 3 Forts Shulune Never Say Never

OD (10,2) A class full of quality where I really was nitpicking to get to my final placings 1 DCC and BOB Bothwells CH Norcis Slippery Jack JW 2yr red Merle who filled my eye, he is quite striking in outline, beautifully presented with just a hint of elegance in his stance but without losing masculinity, he has a true almond shape eye and a wonderful expression, body is well developed with a good spring of rib and strong topline, he is moderately angulated in the rear with well let down hocks, his front action is so clean and in profile he covers the ground smoothly and easily . Not surprised to see he is titled as I found him hard to fault today. 2 RDCC Laroche’s Shepherds Of Paradise Tango Hillarious 2 yr Merle, another perfectly presented dog, balanced in outline with ample bone, handsome masculine head of good proportions and high set ears, just a fraction shorter in body than the winner but with the correct length of leg, well sprung ribs, short strong loin and a good width of thigh, sound and steady on the move holding a firm top line but I would have liked to see him drive out a little more 3 Cowleys Sparkaway Supernatural

VD (0)

SBD/B 1 and BSB Dialynne Enzo Farrari I can remember judging this strongly made red dog a few years ago and found lots to like in him, he has a broad masculine head and strong muzzle but eyes just a little round, strong neck and good shoulders, he just a little over developed in forechest now and a tad heavy coated which spoils his shape somewhat but he moved out steadily holding his top line 2 Shulune Secret Wizard 4 yr tri with super bone and about the right amount of substance, masculine head and strong jaw but ears could be better set, body is well ribbed with a good depth of brisket but I would have liked a stronger topline. Moved ok.

MPB (2)1 BPB and BPIB Hodges Jopium Dark And Demure a most attractive and feminine tri, she has an appealing head with small well set ears and lovely dark eye, she is very raw and immature as one would expect but everything is there, she has a good front, neat compact feet and holds a level topline on the stack, shapely hindquarters with a good bend of stifle and well let down hocks, well controlled by her handler to move out easily and steadily and just a fraction truer behind than 2 Mackenzie Shepherds Of Paradise U'r My Gal (Imp Fra) another very nice young tri with a lovely eye and super expression but as yet not the strength in muzzle of the winner, she scored in front construction and shoulder placement and she has an excellent topline, in profile she moved out soundly and smoothly but on the away was a bit close behind.

PB (2,1) 1 Gores Willvady Everything Naughty But Nice, this youngster has an appealing head and expression, a super neck into a good lay of shoulder and stands true in front, just a fraction long cast but with no compromise to her topline, she moved out freely covering the ground with a moderate length of stride and just needs to body up and spring her ribs a little more. Although alone she deserved her place.

JB (2) 1 Bluck Timperton and Edwards Triforce Fin Raziel, a gorgeous red merle who was so well prepared with a medium length well fitting coat that showed off her shape beautifully, she is feminine in head with well used ears enhancing her expression, neck is clean and arched and flows into well laid shoulders and she has ample bone for her size with a reasonable length of leg giving a balanced appearance. She particularly impressed me on the move going forward smoothly with a clean and easy action whilst maintaining her topline. Ticked a lot of boxes for me and I will be interested to see how she matures on 2 Browns Shepwood Gazing At Klouds I preferred the head proportions of the winner but this young tri has a really expressive almond eye and small correctly set ears which when used enhanced her expression, she stands on straight forelegs and strong pasterns, slightly longer cast than the winner but holds her topline well. Moves out soundly in profile but a little loose in hind action.

PGB (3,1) 1 Crawfords Louiston Lost Sister 23 mth merle who was pleasing enough overall, she has a good length of neck and is balanced in front and rear angulation with enough spring of rib and a firm level back line, I would have liked a fraction more length of leg but she is very good on the move where it all comes together nicely 2 Shepwood Gazing At Klouds

LB (5,3) 2 good moving and well handled girls here 1 Bridges Liskarn It's In The Bag. I preferred the length of leg of this young red girl and she has a feminine elegant outline, good head shape with almond eye and well used ears, excellent neck and front angulation and a proportionate length of leg, level backline to slightly sloping croup, moderate angulated behind with good definition at the hock and active and ground covering on the move where she was well handled to get the best from her. Once she fills out she should trouble the best. 2 Bothwells Norcis Summer Truffle JW, presented in great coat the showed off her shape nicely, she has a proportionate head with lovely almond eye but she could use her ears more, she stands true in front on straight forelegs to slightly sloping pasterns, she is well developed in fore chest with deep brisket and moderate tuck up, a sound a fluid mover and a close decision for 1st place but I just preferred the overall balance and leg length of the winner.

OB (10,3) Another super class with strong movement right down the line 1 and RCC Beards Again De L'aussie Happy At Boskenna (imp Fra) Red b rising 2, a most attractive girl with a pleasing head, good skull to muzzle ratios and almond eye of corresponding coat colour, she has an excellent length of neck that flows into well laid shoulders, forelegs moderately boned and straight to strong slightly sloping pasterns and compact feet, under her firm level topline is a well formed rib cage and short loin. On the move she covers the ground so easily holding her shape but could still tighten up a fraction in front. What a bright future this girl must have, not yet 2 and I understand she is already a champion, I liked her very much and really today only beaten by the maturity of the veteran. 2 Cowleys Ch Sparkaway Black Magic 2.5 yr tri who won her place in her superior movement, she has such a lovely head with tight dark almond eye and neat high set ears that framed her beautiful face, she is well constructed in the fore with strong oval bone and compact feet and she has a super topline, short strong loin and good width of thigh. There is so much to appreciate but I would have liked a fraction more length of leg to give a more balanced picture. 3 Bothwells Norcis Dusky Disco JW

VB (2) Two super veterans here, both of whom I have had the pleasure of before. 1 BCC, BV and VG4 Crawford and McDonalds Ch Mistyholly More Magic For Louiston, I just love the picture this girl creates on the stack, she is so well balanced and a real show girl who was handled perfectly to show off her assets. Head is clean and well proportioned with high set well used ears and almond eyes that give an intelligent and attentive expression, she has a clean slightly arched neck into a good lay of shoulder, body is well ribbed with short loin , slight tuck up and moderately bent stifles. She is made to move well and she does just that with total accuracy. It was difficult to find anything negative to say about her but if I was going to be really picky I would have liked just a fraction more width of forechest, and ultimately this was my deciding factor for BOB 2 Gibbons and Blytons UK Ch Ir Ch Int Ch Mangry's Need For Speed With Wispafete 8 yr tri b again in fabulous condition, rather more compact than the winner and slightly stronger in head with high set and well used ears but eyes a little round and full, she has good muscling to her hindquarters and still so strong in topline which she held move the move covering the ground freely and easily.
