CATALANS SHEEPDOGS

A big thank you to the exhibitors for their entries today with 100% attendance too, it’s a long way down the country for some !

I do feel this breed is rather under rated particularly when it comes to group placings, a good Catalan is as good as any breed with CC status in my opinion and they are a really interesting breed to judge.

SBD (1) 1 Roberts and Roberts Hollybeck Purple Murri this lad makes a pleasing shape on the stack and is fairly well balanced, he has a masculine head and strong neck and stands true in front on short pasterns and well shaped furry feet, ribs are well sprung and topline firm. It took a few attempts for him to move without pacing but once he got into his stride he moved out with ease.

PD (1) 1 and RBD, BP 613 LEWIS-SUMMERFIELD, Mrs Joanne Hollybeck Jack The Lad Starwell An absolutely cracking youngster so full of character and confidence. He has a good body shape being slightly longer than high. Proportionate head which just needs to develop and mature on with eyes holding a bright and alert expression. Shoulders are well laid and he holds an impressive topline for one so young. On the move he is fairly well together and went forward smoothly and easily around the ring with his handler controlling him perfectly. So much to like here, I look forward to seeing how he matures on.

PGD (2) 1 Roberts and Roberts Hollybeck Purple Murri (see SBS)

2 Hansford and Donnellys Cami Vida Bilbo Sirius At Peregos (imp Deu) this lad has a super well proportioned head with well set ears and an intelligent expression, he has a strong neck into good withers and well muscled shoulders with ample angulation but could have a little more behind, on the stack he was pulling up his topline which completely changed his shape and was a little close behind on the away which was such a shame as there is a lot to like here. Presented in good rough coat and muscled condition.

OD (2) 1 and BD, BOB Fieldsend Bel Ir Ch Du Domaine Des Dhalburgs At Starwell (Imp) One I have judged before and in my opinion a super example of the breed, his coat is of the correct texture with the required rough rustic look and his body is muscular and well proportioned. Head is masculine with good with of skull strong muzzle with round eyes giving an intelligent expression , neck is of moderate length into defined withers and well laid shoulders , ribs are well sprung, chest is deep and hocks are well let down, hindquarters strong and muscular allowing him to cover the ground easily with the minimum of effort.

2 Lewis Summerfields Hollybeck Jack The Lad Starwell (see PD)

VD (1) 1 and BV Hansford and Donnellys Le Magicien D'oz Du Clos Millette At Peregos, The standard states hardy and well balanced and despite being at the higher end of the standard this lad is just that. He was presented in super coat and condition with a lithe and muscular torso . He has a strong masculine head with good skull to muzzle ratios and well pigmented eye and nose, he stands on straight forelegs and short strong pasterns with chest down to elbows held close to his body, firm in topline to low set tail with an acceptable carriage, his easy flowing movement won him BV today.

OB (1) 1 and BB Pickering and Pickerings Multi Ch Ir Ch Starwell Here We Go Again To Bouvibear CPW22 Ir J Ch . Mature girl of good type and soundly constructed all through, feminine head with slight stop and dark eye giving an intelligent expression, she has an excellent neck and lay of shoulder with a well ribbed body, tidy elbows and a firm topline, she is well angulated front and back and holds a firm topline and is a smooth and easy mover.

VB (1) 1 Hansford and Donnellys Charis Alvegi Borzas Dona At Peregos (imp Hun) hard to believe this girl in 11 years old as she is in super condition, coat is of medium length with the required furnishings, she has strong but attractive head of good proportions, slightly long cast but holding her topline well, moderately angulated behind and just showing a slight weakness in hock on the away but still active and easy in profile.
