Thank you to the LKA officers and committee for their hospitality and inviting me to judge, and thank you to all the BOSTON TERRIER exhibitors for their entries.
It’s been a couple of years since I last awarded CC’s in our breed. My perception has been that breed type has become very variable, so it was interesting to have the opportunity to get my hands on dogs that I have only been able to view either in competition against or from ringside. In my judging as well as awarding head and expressions, I looked for overall squareness, correct low set tails and soundness of movement with moderate rear angles. There were some stunning examples of the breed present for me to judge today, and some decisions were extremely close calls. I’m pleased to say that I found all exhibits to be both sound in body, and temperaments across the board were excellent. Other positives were that there were far fewer dogs with light eyes, and I had no concerns with any of the dogs breathing, so I believe on the whole the showing breeders & exhibitors are doing a great job on health.
MPD - 1/0
1st - Quick’s - Havance High Society - upstanding type dog with no hint of coarseness, just 6 months of age and a fair amount of maturity to come both in head and body, he took what I believe was his first show in his stride, he has a nice open black nose, deep dark eyes well set, ears of good size and shape set and used well, lovely arch of neck into correct shoulder, straight front with bone to match, tidy feet, correct top line and tail set, correct rear angles, he covers the ground with free easy movement, BPD.
PD - 1/0
1st - Jackson’s - Tigrato Lost Prophet - Smaller type dog 11 months old, well marked, with pleasing head qualities, square muzzle, dark round eyes, ears of good size and shape used well, good reach of neck, straight front, tidy feet, good depth of rib, short coupled, ideally to complete the picture I would prefer a more level top line.

1st - Rankin’s - Wildax The Real McCoy - Well marked, Flashy Medium sized young dog, Strong head qualities, which ultimately won him this class, lovely dark pigments throughout, correct bite, dark eyes, ears set and used well, good bone for his size, tidy feet, needs to tighten and body up to fill his frame, appears slightly long in loin.
2nd - Bundy’s - Dalenmag King of Clubs - Another well marked medium sized young dog, lost out today on maturity in head, and just being a little apologetic with his ring presence, I preferred his overall body lines especially in profile, he has enough bone for his frame, with good depth and spring to his ribs, short coupled with correct tail set, moved sound and true both coming and going.
PGD - 3/0

1st - Kennedy’s - Antrix Sukey Tawdry - Medium sized, well marked black brindle and white, beautiful elegant type bitch, superbly handled and presented, super square muzzle, deep dark round eyes, ears set and used well, long neck into correct shoulder, straight front, tight tidy feet, ribs yet to fully spring which can give the illusion that she’s a tad long, she isn’t so when her ribs do spring it’ll help with the overall picture, level top line with low set tail, and moves with free and easy strides.
PGB - 3/1
1st - Glyn & Glyn’s - Jangar Born to be a Star for Coppergold - Well marked medium sized bitch, Strongly built, strong clean muzzle, with dark pigments throughout, ears of good shape and size carried and used well, all adding up to a strong headed bitch with a feminine expression, she has everything in the right place with a straight front, very well sprung rib & strong rear quarters, moved well both coming and going, ideally I’d like to see her shown in a tad lighter condition, but she was full of type and typical Boston spirit and enthusiasm.
2nd - Walker’s - Follow Your Dreams Torques at Zoist, Younger and finer in build than first, she has feminine head qualities, with enough power in her muzzle to match her skull, ears set and used well, good reach of neck, straight front, good depth to chest, carries a bit too much white on the back of her ears for me, and although she tracks true coming and going her top line roached a little in profile, it was cold in the hall so perhaps on a warmer summer day this would be less pronounced.
