Judge: Mr A Allen (Allenie/Quensha)

Thank you to United Retriever Club for inviting me to judge, to the exhibitors for entering under me and to Jenny my steward for keeping me on the straight and narrow. It was a super entry and there was a real depth of quality, for a small numeric breed, it felt that it was in a good place.

My BCC & BOB I awarded to the very lovely Sh Ch Arnac Bay Hebe Wgc ShCEx Ew22 (J & C Middleton & Mayhew), with the DCC going to her litter brother in Sh Ch Arnac Bay Huron at Bergelle JW (Mrs M V & Mr J & Mr J Mahon-Hunns & Hunns & Newton). My RDCC went to the winner of limit dog Pixiesrock Mr Tumnus by Bleyos JW (Mr G & Mrs T Boyles). RBCC and Best Veteran was the beautiful Sh Ch Arnac Bay Flax (Mrs C S Mayhew). My Best Puppy was the very exciting youngster Penrose Visual Impact (Mrs J Morris).

1st Penrose Visual Impact (Mrs J Morris)

This young man is seven and a half months and, in my opinion, a very exciting prospect, at this age everything is in the right place and developing as it should be. Head of good proportions with a kind eye. Super front on him, good lay back of shoulder and return of upper arm. Body of good proportion and quarters are well made. Moved out really well once he settled. Super coat. Later was my pleasure to award him Best Puppy Dog and Best Puppy. I will follow his career with interest.

Junior Dog Entries: 2 Absentees: 1

1st Susqudilla Bergelle Big Apple (Imp Usa) (Mrs M V & Ms J & Miss R Mahon-Hunns & Middleton & Haskin)

Another smart youngster, I liked his head piece, good through the neck in to well set shoulders. Stands on good legs and feet. Well made in body with balanced proportions. Ribs and loin developing as they should be and well-made quarters. Moved out very well with a good action. Clearly changing coat today and lacked undercoat, I could feel a good oily texture. Today he didn’t have the finish of the principal winners. I am sure he will do very well as he matures.

1st Pixiesrock Mr Tumnus by Bleyos JW (Mr G & Mrs T Boyles)

Another good one, doesn’t always make the most of himself on the stack but when you get your hands on him it is evident that he is made right. Pleasing head piece, masculine in expression. Strong through the neck into well placed shoulders, with a correct return of upper arm. He stands on well boned legs and good feet. He has depth to his chest and well sprung ribs. Moderately angled quarters. He scored in accuracy of footfall over the second placed dog. Coat in tip top condition with good texture. My pleasure to award him the RCC.

2nd Tideflight Floki (Mr J M & Mrs J M Hayes)

Another good one with a lot to like about him. Clean in outline with good balance, head is masculine with a kind expression. Strong in neck, well placed shoulders. Needs to drop in to his chest a little more and tighten in elbow which he will do as he matures. Body of good proportions, ribs well sprung. Scored in hindquarters which were powerful and with well bent stifles. Moved out well but not as tidy on the up and down as the winner, and not in his best jacket today.

3rd Battsrock Are You Ready (Mrs V Royle)

Open Dog Entries: 6 Absentees: 2

1st Sh Ch Arnac Bay Huron at Bergelle JW (Mrs M V & Mr J & Mr J Mahon-Hunns & Hunns & Newton)

A very smart dog who stood out in this class, I see he has done well under me as a youngster. He has a super outline on the stack with balanced angles front and rear. Head is well made with good overall proportions but a shade strong in back skull for me, good eye which enhances his expression. Clean reach of neck into well laid shoulders, stands on well boned legs and good feet. Ribs well sprung and firm in loin. Quarters are well developed with stifles well bent. In really hard condition and a super typical coat on him. Moved out well to take the DCC, just pipped by his litter sister for BOB.

2nd Glaneils Count On Me (Mr S A & Mrs C L Broomfield)

Well-made chap who presents a good outline on the stack, I liked his head piece which was well developed with a kind eye. Neck into shoulders is good and he has a decent lay back on him. Ribs well sprung. Quarters are well made with a moderate bend of stifle. Not the angulation of the winner. Personally, I would just like a shade more of him all through. Pushed the limit winner hard, very close for the runner up spot.

3rd Ch Migwell Soloman's Puzzle (ai) (Mrs C J Griffin-Woods)

Veteran (7+ years) Entries: 3 Absentees: 0

1st Sh Ch Arnac Bay Flax (Mrs C S Mayhew)

This eleven year old lady was determined to show the youngsters how to do it today, she came in the ring, full of attitude, her tail never stopped. She has the most beautiful head and expression with a lovely kind eye, with a hint of mischief about her. Clean in neck into well placed shoulders and a good return of upper arm. Good depth of chest, stands on straight well boned legs. He body is well proportioned; ribs are well sprung and she is short coupled. Well-developed quarters with stifles well bent. Good on the move, smooth in action. Pushed hard for top honours but just showed her age a little in the runoff in the challenge, so had to be content with the RCC. My Best Veteran.

2nd Arnac Bay Gamble (Mr D & Mrs T Thompson)

Another good one, nine years old and with a lot to like about her. She is a well-made girl with correct proportions and was in good coat. She has a feminine head and expression, good neck into shoulders and stands on good legs and feet. Good through the body with ribs well sprung. Well-developed quarters, good muscle tone and with stifles well turned. She moved out well, good side gait just not as tidy as the winner.

3rd Chesepi Ulysses (Mr D N Rigby)

1st Ch Migwell Soloman's Puzzle (ai) (Mrs C J Griffin-Woods)

Loved this chap as a youngster and was pleased to see him again as the finished article. His head has refined and has a masculine, kind expression with a good eye. Strong through the neck, shoulders well set and standing on good legs. He has depth to his chest; ribs are well sprung. Well-made quarters, stifles well bent. Not in his best jacket. Moved with accuracy of foot fall, in the open class he just didn’t have the drive of the two ahead of him. Please to see he now has his title, totally deserved in my opinion, thank you for bringing him again.

2nd Oakmarsh Freedom SGWC (Miss K Watts)

Pleasing type of bitch, a shade longer cast. She has a super head and expression, strong through the neck, shoulders well placed, I would like a shade more upper arm. Stands on well boned legs and good feet. Depth to chest and ribs well made, a shade long in loin. Excellent quarters. Coat super, well covered with a good texture. Move out well.

Puppy Bitch: Entries: 4 Absentees: 0

1st Penrose Victrix Ludorum (Mrs J Morris)

Another super puppy from this breeder, has type stamped through her. She has a super outline and balance. I liked her head shape; her expression is feminine. Good through the neck in to well set shoulders. Stands on good straight legs, ribs good for age and good overall body proportions. Super quarters with stifles well bent. Did enough on the move to take the class. Just needs to get her confidence to complete the picture, lost out to her brother today for best puppy, should have an exciting future ahead of her.

2nd Oakmarsh Little Acorn (Miss K Watts)

Another pleasing puppy, eight month old, out of a different mould to the winner and at that growing stage, so not quite as balanced. Pleasing head and expression. She has a good overall shape and proportions. Well-made in body, slightly longer cast. Super quarters on her. Coat in good condition. Moved out well with a good action to take this place.

3rd Melseed Perseverance by Migwell (Mrs C J Griffin-Woods)

Junior Bitch: Entries: 3 Absentees: 0

1st Arnac Bay Jellicoe (J & C Middleton & Mayhew)

Another exciting youngster here, just 15 months and so well put together for her age. I loved her feminine head and expression, good shape and very pretty. Super front on her, shoulders well set and a good return of upper arm, good depth of chest for her age. Stands on well boned legs and neat feet. Body is well developed and quarters well-made. A bit out of coat which cost her in the challenge. If she carries on growing in this vein, she will have a bright future ahead of her

2nd Oakmarsh Little Acorn (Miss K Watts)

3rd Oakmarsh Land of Promise (Miss K & Mrs A & Mrs N Watts & Mellersh-Tett & Mellersh-Tett)

1st Oakmarsh Land of Promise (Miss K & Mrs A & Mrs N Watts & Mellersh-Tett & Mellersh-Tett)

Another typy puppy with a lot to like about her. Beaten by her litter sister in the earlier class, she was just not quite as together today but has plenty of time ahead of her. She has a kind expression, well made in body and balanced angles front and rear. Needs to find her feet on the move to complete the picture. Has bags of potential.

1st Glaneils Daydream Believer (Mrs C & Mr S & Mrs M & Mr J Broomfield & Broomfield & Mahon-Hunns & Newton)

I liked this bitch a lot and she was in consideration for top honours. She has a super head piece, well proportioned with a kind eye to give a feminine expression. Good through the neck in to well set shoulders, good return of forearm, stands on good straight legs. She has correct depth of chest for her age, ribs are well sprung and is firm through the loin. Quarters are well developed and stifles well bent, well-muscled up. In excellent coat and condition. Moved out well to complete the picture. Should have a bright future ahead of her.

1st Glaneils Don’t Worry Be Happy (Mrs C & Mr S & Mrs M & Mr J Broomfield & Broomfield & Mahon-Hunns & Newton)

Nice type of bitch, 3 years old and a lot to like about her. She has good overall balance and proportions; her head is feminine with a good eye shape. She has depth to her chest; ribs are well sprung, and she is good through the loin. Quarters well made with good rear angulation. Not very happy today, did enough on the move but I would slow her down a touch as she lost her shape a little as she went round the ring. Coat was in excellent condition.

1st Sh Ch Arnac Bay Hebe Wgc ShCEx Ew22 (J & C Middleton & Mayhew)

My star of the day, this six-year-old bitch screams Chesapeake to me, I thought she excelled in breed type. She has a super headpiece of good width and muzzle. She has a strong neck into well laid-back shoulders. Good front assembly, she stands on straight legs and tight feet. Well made in body, ribs well sprung and firm in loin. Quarters are well made, stifles well bent and she is well muscled. She moved out with a smooth, effortless gate. She got better and better through the judging. I could not deny her the CC and later BOB against her brother. Thank you for bringing her.

2nd Sh Ch Arnac Bay Harvest (Mr D & Mrs T Thompson)

Smart bitch with a lot to like about her, not surprised to see that she carries a title. She has an appealing feminine head and expression, good overall shape and proportions. Shoulders well laid back and good return of upper arm, good depth of chest and stands on well boned legs. Ribs well sprung and a decent length of loin. Quarters well developed with a good bend of stifle. Not in the best of coats today or would have pushed the principal winners.
