Three Counties Agricultural Society

Breed: Dachshund (Miniature Long Haired)

Three Counties Agricultural Society Championship Show

Thursday 6th June 2024

Many thanks to the Society for inviting me to Judge three varieties of Dachshund, without CC’s, at this well organised show set within the lovely location of the Malvern Hills. Thank you also to my two ring stewards and, of course, the exhibitors for the lovely entry that I received especially for a Thursday, I was absolutely delighted.

Dachshund Mini L/H

Puppy Dog (1,0abs)

1st Minard Darque Red for Devondax (Miss K Small) RBD BPIB

A youngster full of himself with lovely head proportions & clean bite but needs just a touch more maturity in his neck. Lovely lay of shoulder, sternum & upper arm with elbows set well under, good bone & feet. Sufficient length of ribbing and clearance, good body length into his correctly angulated rear quarters used well on the move.

Junior Dog (1,0abs)

1st Dolyharp Amadeus at Sidburyhill (Mr. A & Mrs. K Stevens)

Young male with a nice head & expression, good bite and sufficient length of neck into his front which I felt, with a touch more maturity, he would drop back into and develop more. Good for body length, ribbing and clearance flowing into correct rear quarters with nice bone & feet. Shown in gleaming coat.

Open Dog (6, 4abs)

1st Summerview Hello Hugo (Mrs. J & Mr. P Phillips) BD

Smart male shown in lovely condition with good head proportions and correct bite. Good length of neck flowing into a well laid shoulder with good return of upper arm, elbows set under at lowest point and nice bone & feet. Good in body length, ribbing and clearance all flowing into correctly angled rear quarters used well on moving.

2nd Findowrie Mister Mckye (Mrs. ME Poole)

Good in head & expression, eye & ear set, nice neck but would prefer just a touch more lay to the shoulder. Return of upper arm good and elbows set low, good for bone & feet. Sufficient length of body & ribbing with good clearance, flowing into nicely set rear quarters.

Puppy Bitch (8,1abs)

1st Ravensbeech Florentine Whiteorchard (Miss W Heather) BPB RBB

Close decision between 1st and 2nd, just preferred the set of the rear quarters of 1st here. Good for head planes & bite, ears need to tidy & settle a touch, good in neck which flowed nicely into a well laid front assembly. Correct in body length & ribbing with sufficient clearance & elbows set well under. Nice bone & feet proportions and good rear quarters used on the move.

2nd Findowries Finesse (Mrs. ME Poole)

Another smart puppy with many of the attributes above, I just felt that her rear quarters needed that touch more strengthening and maturity. Good head proportions, teeth & bite, eye & ears, good neck into her well laid front assembly. Correct for body length & ribbing, elbows set under and with clearance under.

3rd Urishay Nell Gwyn (Mr. P & Mrs. A Latham-Jackson)

Res Gellijams Secret Desire (Mrs. RA Dunhill)

VHC Sidburyhill Alouette (Mr. A & Mrs. K Stevens_

Junior Bitch (2,0abs)

1st Darwindax Bobby Jean at Welingtonway (Mrs. KJ & Mrs. DI Gunter)

Nicely proportioned head, good bite & acceptable ear set, with good neck flowing into a nicely laid front assembly. Good for body length & sufficiently ribbed back with good clearance & elbows nicely set under. Rear quarters set well with sufficient angulation, moved out OK.

2nd Queen of the Show Dlugie Cudo NAF TAF (Mrs. K Dawidowska)

For me this girl still needs that maturity and hopefully will drop more into her frame as just a touch high on the rear as yet. Good in head, eyes and ear set, has length of neck but needs just a touch more width. Front assembly yet to settle, has plenty of body length & sufficiently ribbed back, good for bone & feet.

Post Grad Bitch (3,2abs)

1st Kenzduo Monday Mojito at Devondax (Miss K Small)

Even though she stood alone I liked this bitch for her overall construction & shape. Lovely head planes, bite and sufficient neck length into a well laid front assembly. Good for body length, well ribbed and sufficient clearance with a good set to her elbows. Nice feet and bone and good rear quarters used well on the move.

Open Bitch (5,3abs)

1st Findowrie Jessica Rose (Mrs. ME Poole) BB BOB

Such a smart bitch with good head proportions, ear set, expression & with a good bite. Nice in neck flowing into a good, well laid front assembly, good sternum and elbows set well under. Lovely length of back, well ribbed and correct clearance. Topline flowing cleanly into correctly angled rear quarters which she used well on the move. Stood on good feet with nice bone.

2nd Ravensbeech Beansprout of Whiteorchard (Miss W Heather)

This bitch can look to stack a little rear high at times initially changing the overall picture. She has a lovely head for proportion, good expression, bite and ear set. Good neck flowing into a well laid shoulder with correct return of upper arm & sternum, elbows well set under. Good for body length and ribbing, correct clearance and topline flowing into her well set rear quarters.
