LKA WHIPPETS 12.12.24

My stewards Mark and Joyce Collins were most efficient and saved a great deal of time for us all! Thank you both!

I was delighted with the overall entry, but we must watch out for poor return of upper arm, too much length through the body leading to poor toplines, unsound rear movement and there were considerably more distempered teeth and split incisors than I have seen in a very long time.

My line up was full of terrific, quality whippets, it was a pleasure to have had my hands on them. I was delighted to see my BOB go on to Hound Group 2 and my BPIB went all the way to Best Puppy In Show – Well done to both of them – outstanding representatives of our breed.

Class 889 MPD (17 Entries) Abs: 5

1st: CRAIG & COULTERS Collooney Huckleberry

What a super puppy boy this 6 ½ months old, red and white lad is. Masculine head with punishing underjaw. Lovely size. Beautifully balanced with a super topline (which won him this class). Excellent angulation front and rear. Moved so soundly and with excellent profile action. Gently handled to get the best out of him. Must have a bright future.

2nd: PERKINS’ Silkridge Black Caviar

This boy, black with white trim had a little more maturity than 1st. Good length of neck let into a well-placed shoulder. Lovely curvy underline just needs to drop into himself. Excellent rear quarters. Good pasterns, feet and nails. Moved soundly and with good reach in front.

3rd: MORRIS, WADDELL & SPADEMANS Crosscop Turn It On Arrodare

Class 890 PD (6 Entries) Abs: 3

1st & BPD: WHEELERS First Class Soulad By Ranveli (Cze Imp)

This 11 month old brindle with white trim (by my BOB winner) is maturing nicely. Attractive head with flat skull and correct ears. Long neck, well set into his shoulders. He has that super balance of quality with elegance and power. Not overdone in any way. Classic rear quarters with good angulation, broad thighs and well let down hocks. Sound as a pound and with lovely reachy front extension.

2nd: WILLIAMS’ Starceylon Bella Notte At Tigsisle

Black with white trim. This lad has a white marking running down from his throat, which could make him look a little fine through his neck, but he is not. Excellent front angulation and a lovely curvy underline. Broad thighs, excellent feet and nails. Presented in beautiful condition. Lovely profile action.

3rd: HOWGATE & HULLS Palmik Never Too Late

Class 891 JD (6 Entries) Abs: 3

1st: WILTON-CLARKS Shalfleet Oliver Twist JW

Handsome brindle with white trim lad. Compact shape with no exaggerations. Lovely, correct size. Balanced angulation front and back with a super curvy underline. Broad across the thighs. Good feet, short strong nails and well let down hocks. Moved soundly on the up and back, and with drive in profile.

2nd: RODGERS’ Wentvalley Pied Piper

Handsome ticked fawn and white boy with pleasing, well balanced head. Long neck let into well laid shoulder. Good return of upper arm. Bladed bone, slight spring to pasterns. Good rear angulation, short hocks. Lovely underline with correct length of loin and ribbing. Winner was just a little steadier on the move.

3rd: HUTCHINSONS Zenobia Just An Illusion With Sweetaurora

Class 892 YD (7 Entries) Abs: 1

1st: POWELL, MYCROFT & MYCROFTS Supeta's Jammie Dodger For Almakaeala

This quality fawn with white trim is so well balanced. Correct length of body to his height. Lovely length of neck into excellent shoulder which flows into his correct topline. Straight front with correct spring to his pasterns. Beautifully curvy underline with well sprung ribbing. Broad thighs, well let down hocks. Moved soundly coming and going and with good extension in front.

2nd: MORLANDS Zoraden Master Baker JW

Another quality boy who was built on similar lines to the winner and the same comments apply. No exaggerations and perhaps with slightly better depth of chest than the winner. Carrying a shade more weight than I would like. Another day, these two could easily change places.

3rd: TYSON, TYSON & TYSONS Starceylon Dancing Master JW

Class 893 ND (11 Entries) Abs: 2

1st: WILLIAMS’ Starceylon Bella Notte At Tigsisle

(As before)

2nd: MORRIS, WADDELL & SPADEMANS Crosscop Turn It On Arrodare

This boy was third in Minor Puppy and he is such a baby. Good length of neck. Excellent topline and underline. Good return of upper arm. Broad well angulated rear quarters. He still needs to drop through his chest (of course), fill out, (with maturity), get his head straight and use his conformation properly on the move. Once he has done that, he will present a much better picture.

3rd: GRAHAMS Fiona Ohoka Tip Top

Class 894 GD (4 Entries) Abs: 0

1st: GIBBINS, FRYER & FRYERS Deroonpark Rafferty At Stonefox

I really liked the quality and shape of this brindle with white trim boy, he so reminds me of his sire. Handsome, well balanced head with excellent expression. Super front angulation with rear quarters to match. He has white on his underline which can make him look shallow, but he is not, in fact, his excellent depth of brisket won him this class. Good feet and pasterns. He put it all together on the move and was just as I expected – sound as a bell and, in profile, super drive from the rear.

2nd: STRONG & CLINTONS Crosscop Kiss Me Here For Mackjama

I have judged this fawn and white boy before as a puppy and, my goodness, he has come on since then! Another by the BOB winner and now coming into his own. Good neck and shoulders and, at sixteen months, his topline is developing very nicely too. Good spring to his pasterns and well arched feet. Broad thighs and correct balance between first and second thighs. Well let down hocks. Moved well on the up and back and with drive in profile.

3rd: RANKINE & LEVELLS Reffton Kiri (imp Esp )

Class 895 PGD (7 Entries) Abs: 1

1st & Res CC : GRISOLIS Loroli Devil's Stone

This fifteen month old brindle with white trim took my eye when he came into the ring. He fits the standard to a ‘T’ and some of those words describe him beautifully - Balanced, muscular, elegant, graceful, sound and true. No exaggerations and everything in proportion. Certainly, one of the best returns of upper arm. Super depth and underline. The best of feet and well let down hocks. Classic on the move – extension, drive, power and soundness. Just couldn’t be denied his reserve CC. I look forward to seeing him gain his title!

2nd: SEARLE & RAWLINSONS Reffton Tibalt At Whipsearle JW (Sp Imp)

This red boy was built on a much smaller and finer frame than the winner. To be honest I would prefer a little more substance and masculinity. Nice feet. Well let down hocks, and he has a lovely neck and shoulders. A curvy underline and good rear quarters. He moved very soundly and was true and had good extension in profile.

3rd: MARTINS Bowdonia Go The Distance For Stalwart

Class 896 LD (15 Entries) Abs: 4

1st: SHEPHERDS Kidaruka It's Showtime At Oxana JW ShCEx OSW

This dark fawn with white trim won this class on his unexaggerated quality and soundness. His neck is well set on into his shoulders. Excellent topline and underline. Straight front with good spring to his pasterns and super feet. He moved with drive from his rear quarters and had good extension in profile.

2nd: HAMBLINGS Mossbawnhill Bit Of A Dandy At Chaseover

Pale creamy fawn with white trim. Masculine balanced head on this boy with strong underjaw. Long neck with a broad base. Fair return of upper arm. Excellent topline and really good depth of chest and spring of rib. Strong rear quarters with correct tail set. Short hocks. Drove well from behind and maintained his topline on the move.

3rd: TRISTRAMS Supeta's Just Do It

Class 897 OD (8 Entries) Abs: 1

This was a really lovely class and I would think that several could easily change places on a different day.

1st CC, BOB : WHEELERS Ch Ranveli Diki Diki

I judged this pale brindle with white trim as a puppy, gave him Best Puppy and the Reserve CC and he went on to win BPIS. Since then, he has matured and improved beautifully and, for me, is an outstanding example of the breed. He is masculine and has power and strength without coarseness. His front and rear angulation are balanced and without excess. His feet and pasterns are correct. His underline and topline complement one another and the whole package, put together with his body condition, steady attitude and his easy sound movement, fills my eye. `at three years old he is in his prime and I was delighted to have the opportunity to give him his (I believe) 25th CC! Today was his day!

2nd: YACOBY WRIGHTS Ch Cobyco Catch Your Eye

Quality Fawn boy with white trim. Excellent neck through to a well laid shoulder. Good return of upper arm. Super underline. Broad first thigh with good angulation down to his well let down hocks. Good bone, feet and nails. In super condition. Sound mover with reachy front action.

3rd: DILLON & BAILEYS Ch Collooney Eat My Shorts At Runforest JW

Class 898 VD (10 Entries) Abs: 1

This was a lovely class of ‘mature gentlemen’ who were a credit to their owners.

1st: PRICES Ch Wheelspin Silver Shadow Among Silkdance JW

This 7 years old fawn boy with white trim, still has his champion quality in evidence. Pleasing masculine head set on a long neck which was well set into his body. Good angulation front and rear with a good return of upper arm. Straight front with spring to his pasterns and neat feet. Good depth of chest and spring of rib. Broad thighs and well let down hocks. Moved very well coming and going, and in profile.

2nd: SHEPHERDS Ch Citycroft Sundae With Oxana JW Sh.CM ShCEx VW

This 8 year old fawn with white trim was very similar to the winner in both quality and shape. Another worthy champion who is weathering well. Beautifully balanced front and rear angulation. Curvy underline with correct length of loin. Broad thighs. Short hocks. Moved well and sound on the up and back and with reach in profile.

3rd: BARKAS’ Jimanica Just Dreaming

This creamy fawn with white trim has a lovely shape. He has a masculine, well-shaped head. Class 900 SBD (7 Entries) Abs: 1

1st: SEARLE & RAWLINSONS Reffton Tibalt At Whipsearle JW (Sp Imp)

As before.

2nd: GRAHAMS Ohoka Tip Top

At 10 months old, this baby has a way to go to finish both his topline and his depth of chest (of course). Attractive head with nice expression. Good length of neck. Fair spring of rib. Broad thighs. Well sprung pasterns and tidy feet, but his nails could use a little attention. Well let down hocks. He has promise and just needs time to mature into himself.

3rd: LIVSEY & LIVSEYS Saintharp Love To Believe

Class 901 MPB (13 Entries) Abs: 2

This was a lovely class with some real quality minor puppies in it. It bodes well for the future.

1st & BPIB: PERKINS & VAN DER SCHAAFS Creme Anglaise's Entourage With Silkridge

What a superstar in the making this 7 month old girl is. Probably one of the most mature in the class and so steady that she never put a foot wrong throughout. Beautiful head shape with correct set to her ears. Strong, broad based neck let into well laid shoulders. Topline and underline complimented one another. Broad thighs with correct angulation and length through the second thigh. Short hocks and nice pasterns and feet. Put it all together and she made use of it all beautifully. Effortless movement and as sound as a pound. I was delighted that, when she represented the whippets, she went all the way through to a very well deserved Best Puppy In Show. Congratulations!

2nd: BIRCHS Bethwill Shine On Bean

Fawn and white, this was another top drawer baby. At 18 days younger than the winner, she had a more typical level of maturity for her age. Pretty feminine head with fine ears. Good neck let into well placed shoulders. Excellent topline and curvy underline. Balanced front and rear angulation with a good return of upper arm. Broad thighs and well let down hocks. A lovely mover from all angles. She should also have a bright future.

3rd: COULTERS Collooney Strawberry

Class 902 PB (13 Entries) Abs: 2

1st: 2415 WOODS Ardencote Justa Dream

Almost 10 months old, Pretty, moderate, feminine fawn with white trim. Good length of neck let into well laid shoulder. Excellent topline. Good spring of rib, just needs to drop a little through her depth. Curvy underline. Correct length and rise over the loin. Broad first thighs. Very well let down hocks. Moved so sound and with drive, and a reachy profile action.

2nd: 2225 BIRCHS Bethwill Shine On Pip

Pretty fawn and white who was finer boned than the winner. She is litter sister to second in the previous class and with many of the same attributes. This girl is a little longer than her sister and has a white marking on her underline that can make her look a little ‘tubular’. But she is elegant and shapely and, like her sister, has a super classic topline, broad thighs and well let down hocks. She moved well and was sound coming and going.

3rd: 2275 GORDONS Starceylon So This Is Love

Class 903 JB (9 Entries) Abs: 0

1st CC & Res BOB : SHORT, Mr David & SHORT, Mrs Yvette Ch Collooney Celeste.

This 16 months old pale brindle with white trim was new to me and once I had a catalogue, I could see she was another stunning youngster by the BOB. Like her father she is quality through every fibre and is almost a female version of him. The prettiest, feminine head with fine ears. Long strong neck set into well laid shoulders. Beautiful flow through her topline and underline. Excellent return of upper arm. Broad thighs and well let down hocks. There is very little I would change and she moved with the same easy, effortless, sound action as her sire. Couldn’t be denied the CC (her 5th I understand). It was a real buzz to me, to see them moving together in the ring for BOB, and she pushed her sire hard!

2nd: MORTON, POOLE & MORGANS Southpoint Temperance At Cotherstone (Imp) Port

This quality 15 months old red brindle and white has some really nice attributes but she doesn’t do herself any favours. Once she matures, she will hopefully benefit from the conformation she has. Pretty head, fair length of neck. Straight front with good spring to her pasterns. Flattened her topline on the stack, but held it beautifully when on the move. Broad well angulated first thighs. Well let down hocks. Tidy feet. Moved very sound coming and going with easy extended reach in front. Brought her in for consideration for the Reserve CC, but it went to the more mature bitch. All credit to this girl nevertheless.

3rd: BRODIE & OWENS Wolfscastle Be Juled

Class 904 YB (16 Entries) Abs: 3

1st: TYSON, TYSON & TYSONS Starceylon Regina Di Quadri JW

This feminine pale brindle with white trim was a lovely size. Very attractive, balanced head with good underjaw. Good length of neck leading into well laid back shoulder. I liked her topline and curvy underline. Straight front. Broad well angulated thighs. She moved very well in profile with good extension in front and drive from behind.

2nd: PEDLEY-BIGGINS' Doddridge Dazzle Um With Viscar

This pretty parti-brindle, quite mature girl was built on a slightly larger frame that the winner. She was unplaced in a really tough junior class, but deserved to be up here in Yearling. Long neck let into excellent shoulder. Very curvy underline with super depth of chest and spring of rib and a topline to complement. Graceful arch over her strong loin. Bladed bone. Nice feet. Excellent rear quarters. Moved sound on the up and back and with correct front extension.

3rd: JONES & JONES’ Jothryn Manhattan Blonde JW

Class 905 NB (22 Entries) Abs: 6

This class had several exhibits whose handlers raised their whippet’s heads so high, both on the stack and when moving. It altered their natural free movement and gave a more terrier like appearance. Please bear in mind that Whippets are not supposed to have a high head carriage like some of the other sighthounds.

1st: WORRALL & COULTERS Collooney Ginger Rogers (ai)

10 months old elegant fawn girl with good length of neck. Well-muscled shoulders leading to a correct topline, which she maintained on the move. She was balanced throughout with correct spring to her pasterns. Good feet and well let down hocks. Moved sound coming and going. Still needs to drop through her brisket.

2nd: TURNBULLS Gwenny Dream Diva At Turnstone(ba3)

Fawn and white girl who at 17 months, was more mature than the winner but had much of the same qualities. Good spring of rib. Correct rise over her strong loin. Broad thighs. Good bone and slightly sprung pasterns. Well let down hocks. Lovely feet and strong nails. Moved steady and with drive.

3rd: ELLIS’ Railfield Singin In Therain

Class 906 GB (19 Entries) Abs: 5

1st: MCKENZIE & MCKENZIES Courtborne Joy At Aberlark (Imp Nor)

All three of these placed were feminine- no need to check underneath to see whether they were male or female! Elegant dark brindle with white trim. Lovely shape to her well balanced head with strong underjaw. Fine rose shaped ears. Good length of neck leading into decent layback of shoulder and return of upper arm. Excellent curvy underline with correct depth and spring or rib. Broad thighs. Short hocks. Moved well in profile, keeping her topline.

2nd: COURTNEY, Ms Sue Loroli Stoned In Love With Courtbirch

Litter sister to the dog reserve CC winner and like him she is well balanced, elegant and graceful. Bladed bone. Correct spring to her pasterns. She also has an excellent return of upper arm, super depth and a pleasing underline. She moved with drive and was sound and true.

3rd: SHORT & SHORTS Collooney Bellissima Bloom

Class 907 PGB (15 Entries) Abs: 4

1st: TURNER & TURNERS Gilnockie Kinda Cool

This elegant brindle girl with white trim, was a little unsettled on the table and when stacked, but goodness me – she can move! All girl, with enough bone for strength, but not so much as to be coarse. Excellent length of neck with a broad base. Front and rear angulation in balance. Pasterns well sprung and well let down hocks. Underline and topline complementary to one another. Put it all together, with sensitive handling and you have a powerhouse. Once she is comfortable within herself, this girl should trouble the best.

2nd: FINCHS Starceylon Queen Of Dorne And Zenobia JW

I have long admired this black with white trim. She has a classic whippet silhouette with all the curves and sweeping lines that I think represent true breed type. Added to her fine skin and coat, muscle condition, her soundness and beautiful, effortless, daisy clipping front extension and you have a quality whippet. To coin a phrase, she was really unlucky to meet the winner today. Two really top drawer whippet girls on form!

3rd: WORRALLS Collooney Because I Can Khabaray

Class 908 LB (16 Entries) Abs: 4

1st: JOHNSTON, JOHNSTON & WILSONS Danluke Don't I Know It JW

This pale brindle girl with white trim, was carrying a little more weight than I like, but her quality couldn’t be overlooked. Fair length of neck running smoothly into her shoulders. Curvy topline with underline to match. Superb depth of chest and well ribbed back. Strong loin with correct arch. Broad across the thighs, well let down hocks and nice feet. Moved out well in front and was totally sound.

2nd: COULTERS Collooney At Last

This feminine black with white trim has much to like. Attractive, well balanced head with strong underjaw and fine ears. She has a long, strong neck, let into well laid shoulders. Good return of upper arm. Straight front. Slightly sprung pasterns. Good tuck up. Broad, well-muscled thighs. Well let down hocks and excellent feet. Moved totally sound and true and with reachy front action when seen in profile.

3rd: FRYS Jothryn Rebelled In Joy

Class 909 OB (11 Entries) Abs: 1

What a lovely Open Bitch class this was. Best class of the day! It always seems a shame that we cannot give out more than one CC, when you have such quality like this in a class.

1st & Res CC: BLUTECHER & BLUTECHERS Norw Swed Swiss DK Ch Showline Sweet Tiger Lily C.

This red brindle with white trim reminded me of a female version of the Reserve Dog CC winner. To quote from his critique - Those definitive descriptions from the Breed Standard - Balanced, muscular, elegant, graceful were entirely applicable to her too. Well balanced head with attractive expression. Super length of neck running smoothly into her laid back shoulders. A topline and underline completely in harmony. Straight front. Broad, well angulated thighs and she used all of her conformation to produce a long low front action and drive and soundness behind. Lovely!

2nd: JOHNSTON, JOHNSTON & WILSONS Danluke Drag On A Dime JW

This red brindle with white trim girl was of a more compact shape than the winner, but no less quality. Well balanced angulation front and rear with good depth of chest and spring of rib. Super underline with excellent tuck up. Correct strong loin with slight arch. Pasterns and feet were spot on and, like the winner, she had well let down hocks. She used all her good conformation when moving, and was sound behind and with good extension in front.

At this stage I was ‘nit-picking’, and any one of these placed girls could be at the front on another day.

3rd: HOWGATE & HULLS Palmik Truth About Love JW

Class 910 VB (7 Entries) Abs: 1

1st & BVIB: JOHNSTON, JOHNSTON & WILSONS Ch Cyangrange My Cuppa Tea Of Danluke JW

This lovely 7 year old brindle with white trim girl was the dam of 1st in Limit bitch and 2nd in Open bitch, and some of the qualities that she passed on to her daughters shone here in the veteran class, which she stole with ease from some lovely veterans. Good layback of shoulder leading into her strong topline. Straight front with excellent spring to her pasterns and correct feet. Curvy underline. Broad thighs and correct rear angulation. Put down in beautiful condition. Moved with sound, flowing enthusiasm. I’m certain that she could give her daughters a run for their money!

2nd: WHITAKER-CROSBYS Cobyco Could Be The Last At Mulcair JW Sh.CM VW

Dark brindle with white trim. This 8 year old was on a slightly taller frame than the winner. She had a lovely well balanced head with strong underjaw. Super skin and coat. Moved soundly and with good extension. All of those placed here were a credit to their owners.
