Eastern Counties Rottweiler Club
Sunday 4th August 2024
It was an honour to receive the invitation to judge at the club’s 33rd Championship show, from the Late Keith Robinson, I immediately accepted, thank you Keith and to all the committee for the appointment.
A late decision was made by the club to have just the one ring with bitches following dogs, this I felt was the right decision and I enjoyed sitting ringside whilst my co-judge Chris Thomas enjoyed judging his males.
I had some lovely bitches entered under me. There is quite a variation across the breed, as in my last appointment I still found many round eyes and steep stops, personally I feel this loses the calm expression that the breed is known for, also poor top lines and over angulated croups spoil outlines in stance and on the move. In the challenge, some bitches didn’t perform as well as they had in their classes, but I was still very pleased with my line up, for the RCC I had a few bitches in mind which isn’t a bad thing to have to juggle with.
Baby Puppy Bitch (4, 1abs)
All babies were handled so well, nothing forced which made their new experience a pleasurable one.
1st Sutcliffe’s BEREYDA NEW MOON – A very balanced pup, head type is very pleasing, dark almond shaped eye, good ear carriage, correct stop, she has a super front, depth of brisket meets elbow, a little long in body at present, croup is good as is tail set and carriage, rear angles are super, she is very sound for her age. Correct markings rich in colour. With my co-judge we both agreed that she was awarded Best Baby Puppy In Show
2nd Hopgood’s SAINTLYTHANS CLEOPATRA – Litter sister to 3rd place and a little bit more together, both were giving away nearly a month to the 1st place baby which is lot in this class. Good head with broad skull, dark almond shaped eye, loved her strength in muzzle. Nice upper arm, would like a little more lay of shoulder, liked her length of body, lovely rear angles which she used well.
3rd Hopgood’s SAINTLYTHANS HAPI
Minor Puppy Bitch (7, 2 abs)
1st Williams, Jones & Monk’s WESTFALEN OLEARIA BEST TEAM WITH KIARATAZ – This youngster was very much together for her age. Her head gives a pleasing expression, with a correct 2:3 ratio, correct stop, good eye, medium sized ear carried well, nice depth and width to muzzle with a black nose. Her forequarters are balanced, width of chest is developing well, depth of brisket is good, liked her body length and spring of rib for her age. Lovely croup, good tail, rear angles are balanced with correct length of first and second thigh giving a moderate bend to stifle, well let down hocks. Stands on good feet, lovely dark makings throughout. Movement was sound and steady using her angles together, this is what won her the class and also Best Puppy Bitch, sadly she lost out to the male for BPIS from the referee’s decision.
2nd Steel’s UPEND FIZZICAL – A very raw youngster, whose litter sisters in the class were the same. Pleasing head with nice quizzical expression, proportions are good, muzzle has strength, ears are carried well, dark rounder eye and slightly steep stop. Balanced forequarters, chest still needing to develop as expected. She has a lovely croup, rear angles are good and she used these well on the move. Once settled she presented a nice profile. Finished off with compact feet.
3rd Thompson & James’ UPEND FLOOZY
Puppy Bitch (5, 2 abs)
1st Trueman’s JAEGEROT MISS FABULOUS – Lots to like about this well boned young bitch. Head is strong yet feminine, with correct proportions, good skull, correct ear carried well, dark almond shaped eye, cheek developing. Medium length of neck, front is balanced, chest still developing and also needing to drop which is seen when moving towards. Lovely top line and ribs developing well, good angle to pastern. Very pleasing rear angles which work well to drive her on the move where she presents a lovely side gait.
2nd Clark’s DORTMUND MAGGIE MAY – She has a lovely head type, good skull, medium sized ear set and carried well, dark almond shaped eye, strength in muzzle, nice fill to cheek. Medium length of neck, carrying a few rolls over her shoulder where she would benefit from a better lay of shoulder as it’s a tad high. Body is developing well, with a good spring of rib, already her croup is showing a good width and with strength, pleasing rear angles with well let down hocks that show strength for her age. Movement was sound and steady. Finished off with good feet.
3rd Sweet’s ZAJA VOM CHENIRY KUMIR AT BOSSRAT TAF Imp Germany
Junior Bitch (4)
1st Lambert’s SEITTOR VOODOO SPELL JW – Medium bitch with bone and substance to compliment. Strong feminine head, dark almond shape eye, good fill, correct stop, broad clean skull, strong broad muzzle, ears are carried correct and close to cheek. Muscular neck on to a pleasing well balanced front, good width to chest, she stands straight in front onto good feet. Ribs are well sprung, super top line and under carriage, slightly sloping croup which is of good width. Well put together hindquarters with broad upper thigh, well bent stifle, strength continues in second thigh onto strong hocks. She moved well holding her shape at all times which was lovely to see.
2nd Eyre’s CHANTAVORY JE VOUS AMIE – Stronger bitch than first. Head is in keep with her size, dark eye, correct ears that are carried well, strength in muzzle, stop is a little too steep. Correct length of neck onto an adequate front, she stands a little down on feet. Body is developed well with a nice spring of rib, and of good depth. Strong broad croup which leads to hindquarters, her upper thigh is muscular and broad, a nice bend to stifle and strong second thigh, hocks are equally strong. Coat in lovely condition just a slight wave. Moved sound in all directions.
3rd Miler’s JHAVA A TOUCH OF MAGIC
Yearling Bitch (4)
1st Cartwright’s STEIGEN SILKY NUTMEG GANASH – A lovely substantial extremely showy bitch. Strong feminine head with a dark almond shaped eye, strength in muzzle, medium sized ear which are carried close to cheek. Cheeks hare well boned and with good muscle development. Neck is strong and flows well onto a nice lay of shoulder, upper arm is a little steep. Deep, roomy chest with well sprung ribs, loin and croup are strong and broad, rear angles are well angulated with nice muscle development, strength is shown in hocks, drives through effectively on the move, she uses all she has on the move. Stands on lovely compact feet.
2nd Borne’s STARROSSA DANCE WITH ME AT TREVEARL – Overall a very honest bitch, plainer in head than I would like, dry skull, nice ear size which are set well, slightly small but almond shaped dark eye, slight stop, muscular neck, onto a balanced front, with good width and depth of chest, her body is well developed with a good spring of rib, strong top line which she retains at all times. Her hindquarters are well muscled with broad upper thigh. Stands on compact feet and strong hocks. A really pleasing bitch who moved out well in all directions, using her balanced angles together helped her to retain her shape throughout.
3rd Hislop’s OLEARIA QUEEN OF CLUBS
Novice Bitch (4)
1st Thomas’ ABACAB’S DREAMING AT VEDONIS – This bitch is one I really liked, she caught my eye straight away in the class, and pushed hard in the challenge for RCC. Well made with good bone, very substantial with great construction. Head is good with a dark slightly round eye and strong muzzle. Strong muscular neck leads onto a lovely lay of shoulder, return of upper arm is good, stands straight in front, with a nice angle to pastern. Well sprung ribs, good depth and width of chest, loin is broad and strong as is her lovely slightly sloping croup, hindquarters are put together so well, upper thigh is broad, a correct bend to stifle with second thigh showing adequate strength, leading to strength in hock. She would benefit from more muscle development on her upper thigh as she lacked this, which could be seen as she moved a little close behind. She presents a lovely side gait where her angles helped her to cover the ground with ease. She is definitely one that I will watch out for as she matures.
2nd Dobson’s CHANTAVORY COCO CHANEL – A more compact bitch to 1st place, and with the most gorgeous of heads, one if not the best heads on the day for me, ratios are correct, broad skull, moderate arch to forehead, medium ear set well and carried close to cheek, where they are well boned, and with good fill, dark almond shaped eye, strong deep muzzle, well defined stop, just enough wrinkle when attentive. Matching front and rear angles that could be a little more angled but are balanced and therefore work well together, good length of body, chest is broad and deep, with good ribbing. Strength in loin. Slightly rooty tail, hindquarters are conditioned well. She moves well, but doesn’t always present herself as good as she can in stance. Lovely dark tan markings throughout.
3rd Brereton’s Imp KIKI VOM ANAGASTUM
Graduate Bitch (3)
1st Sweet’s EUROPE TERAN AT BOSSROT ROTTWEILERS (Imp Ukr) – A stocky compact well-made bitch who I really liked she is so well conditioned throughout and was one that I really considered in the challenge. She has a very appealing head, with ears that are set well and carried flat to cheek. Broad muzzle is of good correct length, almond shaped medium brown eye. Muscular round strong neck leads onto lovely forequarters where lay of shoulder is long and sloping, upper arm is a good length and gives a good return allowing elbows to be well let down. Broad chest of good depth, strong in body, firm in loin, croup is broad and strong, rear angles are so correct, broad upper thigh with muscle definition, well bent stifle, second thigh which has the correct muscle and strength. Hocks are well let down and she uses them well. She moves well where her shape is maintained at all times. Sadly, she doesn’t always show what she has and unfortunately this let her down a little in the challenge when she needed to step it up. Definitely with more training this bitch should achieve, and I will continue to watch out for her progress.
2nd Gibbard & Watt’s JEZEVE HOT TOTTIE – A younger bitch still maturing and this could be seen in the class. Head is good with a very pleasing expression, good ear which is set well, well defined stop, and good eye. A correct length of neck onto well placed shoulder which has a good return of upper arm. Chest is still developing and has a decent depth, just needs that little bit more maturing, body length to height is good, her body is coming on nicely. Hindquarters are good, where her upper thigh is broad with a pleasing well bent stifle, she just requires muscle development which will come in time. She stands on compact feet with a nice angle to pastern. Movement is very efficient and sound. I will look forward to seeing her once she has firmed up, as this went against her on the day.
3rd Brereton’s Imp CASEY WIZARD MONTENEGRO ROTT
Post Graduate (2)
1st Sutcliffe’s BEREYDA ESNA – A strong substantial bitch, with super muscle tone throughout, although I felt she was very lean on the day. Lovely rich tan markings. Strong feminine head, with a smaller dark eye, good ear set and carriage, broad skull. Strong muscular neck that leads to a well laid broad shoulder, correct length of upper arm giving a good return, elbows are well let down. Stands straight in front, broad and deep chest. Due to being leaner she showed a little more tuck up. Rear angles are pleasing and work well, great muscle development on both inner and outer thigh, strength continues in second thigh.
2nd Monk’s OLEARIA QUEEN OF HEARTS – A bitch of good size and lovely bone throughout. Very pleasing confirmation in profile in stance. Head has good proportions, lovely ears that are carried well, medium brown eye. Muscular neck onto a nicely balanced front, broad chest with good depth, well sprung rib, strong top line broad croup which is moulded well with a good tail set and carriage. Rear angles are pleasing with a nice bend to stifle.
Mid Limit Bitch (5, 1 abs) – This was a lovely class to judge, all had many qualities.
1st Bond’s ROCKWELL KORRA AT KANESBROOK – What a substantial bitch with excellent bone and substance throughout. Everything about her showed strength. As a whole her proportions are pleasing. Head is strong with a correct ear that is carried well and lays close to cheek, broad skull, well defined stop, lovely dark eye, good fill. Lovely broad and deep muzzle with large black nose. Muscular neck leads to pleasing front, broad chest, good depth of brisket, elbows are well let down, she stands straight in front onto compact feet with a nice angle to pastern. Body is so strong and broad, top line is firm and held at all times, ribs are well sprung, loin is solid. Her rear angles show excellent muscle tone, I personally would like a little more length to first thigh. Bend to stifle is good, hocks are so strong. She showed so well and never gave up which is what pipped the others when in the challenge where I was pleased to award her the RCC.
2nd Plimmer’s VICTOREM MY FUNNY VALENTINE – I really like this bitch she has caught my eye before. She is well put together which makes it a pleasure to go over. She pushed 1st place hard where the decision was very close. Her head is lovely, with a dark eye, good fill, cheek is developed and with strong muzzle. Depth of brisket is good, forequarters are put together well, with a good width, elbows are well let down, she stands straight in front at all times onto compact feet. Top line is firm, ribs are well sprung, good under carriage. Hindquarters are well developed and conditioned well, broad first thigh with a good bend to stifle, second thigh shows strength. She moves so well maintaining her shape at all times and displaying efficient movement.
3rd Lambert’s SEITTOR CAST A SPELL JW
Limit (8, 3 abs)
1st Carmichael & Jarvie’s STAIRVALE GISELE – A flashy eye-catching bitch with lots to like. Her head is lovely, she gives such an attentive look, good skull, cheeks are well developed, dark eye, nice depth to muzzle which is strong, would prefer a darker nose, ears are carried well and enhance her overall expression. She has a lovely lay of shoulder with a good return of upper arm, elbows are well let down, nice angle to pastern, good feet. Chest is broad and deep, back is firm. Croup is broad but would benefit from being shorter with less slope. Hindquarters are strong, with a good bend to stifle. Muscle definition is evident both on inner and outer thigh, she would benefit for her first thigh to be a tad shorter. Stands on strong hocks. Movement is sound her angles work well together where in profile they can be seen to cover the ground. Presented in superb condition.
2nd Sutcliffe’s BEREYDA SPEECHLESS – Nice bitch of good size and substance who is very similar in construction to 1st place. Head is strong yet feminine, nice skull with good ear set and carriage, I would prefer the ear to be a bit bigger, cheeks are well defined with good fill, eyes are dark. Good stop, broad strong muzzle. Body is mature, with well sprung rib, good depth of chest which is broad. She stands straight in front onto lovely compact feet with a nice angle to pastern. Strength in loin onto a good croup. Hindquarters are strong with a good bend to stifle and hocks well let down, would prefer a shorter first thigh. Movement in profile is good where she holds a firm topline at all times.
3rd Willis-Impey’s ABACAB’S DUCHESS
Open (3, 1 abs)
1st Jones & Monk’s WESTFALEN LOVE BY DESIGN WITH OLEARIA – A medium bitch who impressed me, she is very well balanced throughout, which can be seen when relaxed, in stance or on the move. Good head and expression, muzzle to skull ratios are correct, nice stop, good ear set, I liked her underfill and cheek development, complimented with an almond shaped eye. Good length of neck leads onto a correct lay of shoulder, upper arm is also correct. Chest is well developed broad and with good depth, ribs are well sprung, good underline, super firm top line, strength in loin blending to a broad croup that has the correct slight slope. Tail set is good as is the carriage. Rear angles are put together well, upper thigh broad and with pleasing muscle development, stifle is well bent with muscular second thigh continuing to strong well let down hocks. Her movement is positive in all directions, she moves at the same steady gait where she covers the ground with ease. Presented in lovely condition. She never stopped showing in the challenge, where I had no hesitation to award her the CC. Later she was then awarded BIS which was a joint decision with my co-judge.
2nd Hoole & Bateson’s UPMONT GYPSY ROMA – Larger bitch than 1st with lovely bone. She has pleasing head, with good skull, correct ears carried well, strong broad muzzle and finished with a dark eye. Length of neck is good which is strong, adequate front, stands straight in front with compact feet. Body is firm, with a good depth and firm top line. Developed rear angles and hocks display good strength. Tail set slightly low but carried well. Dark tan markings throughout. Her rear angles are used so well where she drives through well, showing soundness at all times. Called her in for consideration for the RCC.
Veteran Bitch (3, 2 abs)
1st Moss’ BLUSHING BACARDY AT CHANTAVORY – Well what can be said about this amazing bitch. At 10 years of age, she still has superb substance and no sign of slowing down. Head proportions are great, she has a medium sized ear carried well, slightly round dark eye. Neck is muscular and leads onto a super front, her chest is broad and deep. Stands on super feet. Top line is still firm, rib cage well sprung, strength is there to be seen in her hindquarters where thighs are firm as are hocks. There is no sign of this girl sinking. Movement is exuberant but sound in all directions. Presented in lovely condition. Awarded BVB and with my co-judge we were both happy to award her BVIS.
