Three Counties Agricultural Society

Breed: Basset Fauve De Bretagne
Basset Fauve De Bretagne - Three counties Championship show 6th June 2024 Thank you to the committee for inviting me to judge at their show, my stewards were brilliant and made sure that everything was ship shape and running well. The breed standard for this charming breed opens with, under general appearance, “short-legged, rough-coated hound of moderate length” and this is what I was looking for alongside sound temperament and correct movement. I did find some too leggy and square for my preference, that moved well in profile but there was some questionable front and rear movements. Pretty much all of my entry had lovely heads, with good dark eye and correct ear sets and lengths. The dogs were all obviously dogs and the bitches were feminine. Thank you to the exhibitors for entering under me, and thank you to those who accepted my decisions with grace, there are a couple who could do with remembering that we all have lovely days and we also all have days that perhaps we do not agree with the judges decision. At the end of the day, I judge to please myself and no one else, with the aim to put up the dogs that I feel, in my humble opinion, best meet the breed standard. I was therefore, subsequently, delighted to see that my BOB was later shortlisted in a strong adult group under Mr Mark Ord and also shortlisted in a lovely puppy group by Mr John Purnell.
