PAIGNTON CHAMPIONSHIP SHOW 2024
STAFFORDSHIRE BULL TERRIERS
I would like to firstly take this opportunity to thank the officers and committee of Paignton Championship Dog Show for my invitation to judge at their show as it is always a pleasure to visit, and my two stewards who kept everything in order for me. The Stafford ring was particularly large and gave the exhibits the opportunity to move when asked, even though they disappeared into the distance! I am, as always, grateful to the exhibitors who entered for my opinion and their sporting attitude for my decisions making it a memorable day which was remarked upon by other breed exhibitors and people at the show just wondering what all the applause and cheering was for. There were a few bad or untidy mouths in the lower classes, but no breathing issues, tail carriages today were better than in the past and on the whole the bitch classes were more hotly contested than the dogs which makes me believe our breed is in good shape going forward. I have two criticisms in general, one is that a few exhibits were unfit and lacking in muscle tone and this is so easily remedied and some dogs were dirty and to be honest a bit smelly which is also easily remedied. There were no placings in the Terrier group or Puppy group today but the Special Beginner was Group 2 and the Veteran dog went Veteran Group 3 and I thank you all for representing our breed so well.
Class 803 SBD/B (7 Entries) Abs: 0
1st: 1292 BLAKE, Mr Antony Llanstaffs The One. Black brindle bitch. Nice strong but feminine head, correct teeth placement. Neat feet and good angulations when viewed from all angles. She is short coupled with good developing rear construction. Moved well.
2nd: 1295 BOWMAN, Mrs Joanna & BOWMAN, Mr Timothy Sikaistaff All Of Me At Kamiflo. Black brindle bitch with similar attributes to 1. She has a lovely expression enhanced by her dark eyes and rose ears. This was a “splitting hairs” decision as either of these two could swap places another day, I just preferred the more animated movement of my winner.
3rd: 1355 MILLS, Mr & Mrs J & T Stormbreakers Vengeance At Milarke Bull. Red dog with dark mask. Good pigmentation. Shown in good condition and moved OK.
Res: 1299 CAMPBELL, Mr Michael & CAMPBELL, Mrs Oona Foyllforsdal Mo Seis

2nd: 1369 ROBINSON, Mr H & ROBINSON, Mrs M A & ROBINSON-COX Hamason Sweet Little Mystery. Brindle and white pied. Strong head with dark eyes. Slightly taller and longer cast than my winner but a very nice pup. Moved well with drive from his rear which is developing nicely and with confidence at one with his handler.
3rd: 1321 EVANS, Mr Geraint Dafydd Hammystaff I See Fire. Red and with white the youngest in this class at just 6 months old. Good strong head with dark eyes and correct dentition. Good width to front and plenty of bone. Moved OK and will develop nicely with some more ringcraft.

1st: 1331 JACKSON, Mr & Mrs Wayne & Karon Jackabyte Redemption (ai). Black brindle puppy of obvious quality. He has a beautiful strong head with dark wicked eyes, correct dentition housed in a strong muzzle with good ear placement. Good front and muscular rear with a nice tuck up and everything as it should be for his age. But, boy did he play his handler up with his spirited display and it was difficult to assess his movement but what I saw was very promising.
Class 806 JD (9 Entries) Abs: 0
1st: 1336 JOHNSON, Mrs K & Mr M Tillcarr Fire Soldier Jw. Black brindle with such a clean head, dark eyes and neat ears. Strong muzzle housing big white teeth. Good width across his chest, depth of brisket and lovely tuck up. Shown with a gleaming coat. He is short coupled and has a strong rear that enabled him to move with drive, holding his topline with the correct tail carriage. A lovely standard young dog who will trouble the best when he gains more maturity.
2nd: 1357 MOORCROFT, Mrs Natalie Ellchansha Charm The Devil At Moorstar Black brindle standard dog of such quality who pushed my winner hard. There was so much to like about this youngster and another day I’m sure the decision will reverse. He has a classic head, dark eyes and neat ear set. Dentition good. As written above, in body, he has all the attributes of my winner and moved well. I just preferred the fitness on the rear quarters of my winner.
3rd: 1309 DAVIES, Mr N Hasburystaff Top Gun. Black brindle with white socks and chest. This young dog is such a showman and although top size there is such a lot to like. He has good width across his chest, depth of brisket and strong hind quarters. Shown in gleaming condition. Unfortunately he did not move as true as the two in front of him today.

He has good pigmentation and a rich red tight fitting jacket housing a muscular, fit construction. Good wide front, depth of brisket and well sprung ribs. Strong back end. Another fit exhibit but I just preferred the movement of No. 1.

1st: 1367 REYNOLDS, Mr Garry & REYNOLDS, Mrs Susan Niatona Wreck It Ralph. Red and white dog who was on fire today. This dog’s white markings on his chest can detract and present an optical illusion but on going over him you realise that everything is as it should be. He has a classic Stafford head, powerful muzzle with good underjaw and correct dentition, with neat ear carriage. Straight broad front and depth of brisket, well sprung rib all leading to strong, muscular hindquarters giving him a lovely shape when viewed from behind. He was presented in fit, hard condition with tight fitting jacket and moved well, with purpose and drive. Today his handler got the most from him, and in the final line up this dog was on his toes not taking his eyes off of me and when the “magic mousey” was dropped in front of him he showed gameness that clinched the DCC & BOB. Well done.
2nd: 1327 HART, Mrs A & HALIFAX, Mr S Jackstaff Made A Boy For Albermarbull. White dog with red eye patch. This dog is top size and although young held his own in this strong Limit class. Beautiful clean head and lovely dark eyes which give such an appealing expression. Another in great condition with good straight front, powerful backend and his movement was foot perfect. He moved so well, holding a bang level topline with correct tail set. When called back in for the challenge his movement was the deciding factor. RDCC well done.
3rd: 1385 WILSON, Mrs K, Miss J & Mr S Northstaff Nightmare JW. Black brindle of smaller stature with neat ears and dark eyes. Good front, tight feet and short coupled. Moved well if a little carefully. I would prefer more animation but nonetheless deserved his place in this strongly contested class.

She moved OK and did really well as I believe this was her first time in the showring.
