IRISH SETTER

Judge: Wendy King

Thank you to the committee for both the invitation and a super day. Thank you to the exhibitors for bringing such a quality entry, it was an absolute pleasure.

Puppy

1 CLONAGEERA IT’S A NEW DAWN AT HEATHCLARE (B) BPIB G4 Prangle C

Overall well balanced for age, strong bone and nicely muscled already. Head balanced with well raised brows offering inquisitive, gently happy expression with well defined occiput and stop, muzzle deep enough but still feminine . Set on a strong slightly arched neck not too long, taking to deep chest and well sprung ribs. Good tail set, angulation excellent throughout, altogether allowing energetic drive on the move, youthful exhuberance not detracting from balanced co ordination. Held corners well on the ground, decent racy movement. Quality puppy hopefully maintaining femininity in maturity.

Junior

1 ZAKHAN’S ROUGH DIAMOND BY KONAKAKELA (D) Harris P

Racy, well balanced, strong bone and muscle throughout. Ears well set back on balanced head set on elegant neck leading to strong front with good angulation. Good spring of rib leading to well bent stifle and strong hind quarters with angulation to balance well with front. Decent enough drive on the move, shame he held back slightly preventing better flow of movement.

2 POLLNAC NEW MIRACLE ( B) Maple L

Feminine head, balanced on unexaggerated neck to front with angulation generally not as strong as 1 in the stack, though showing simple, unexaggerated elegant lines to hind quarters. Good bend of stifle, Racy and flowing on the move. Overall a lovely elegant bitch in the making.

A close call between 1 and 2, a quality pair, 1 just took it for me today.

Novice

1 POLLNAC NEW MIRACLE (B). Maple L

Graduate

1 COVARNEY TIME AFTER TIME FOR MARZANNE (B) Hadfield M

Inquisitive young lady with brows emphasising pretty feminine head detail. Good angulation and strong front with deep chest and ribs to muscular loin. Good bend of stifle holding hind quarters slightly less angulated and not so strong as front. Racy on the move covering ground with steady flowing drive.

2 COVARNEY IT TAKES TIME WITH STOURFORD JW (D) Needs A & W

Well muscled, with deep chest strong well angulated front to well sprung ribs. Hindquarters not quite so strong as the fore and seemed slightly out of balance in the stack. Did not detract from covering the ground with smooth and steady, driving movement. A well matched pair 1 just pipped it today for me.

Post Graduate

1 CLONAGEERA TOUCH OF GOLD (B)BOB Rutherford-Judge & Prangle P and CJ

Overall a very well balanced, racy young man, front and rear angulation and strength of muscle well matched and unexaggerated, lovely deep chest, firm topline held by well sprung rib and muscled loin, good tail set. Bend of stifle supporting those strong hindquarters well. Head detail strong, excellent detail from muzzle through to brows delivering soft and intelligent eyes. Occiput and stop well defined, well presented atop muscled arched neck flowing well into shoulders and topline. Super flowing drive covering ground, enjoyed watching him move.

2 GROUSEHILL DREAM BOY (D) Purves B

Strong hind quarters and decent bend of stifle, good spring of ribs. Angulation on the fore not as strong as hind. Neck going to topline a tad heavy for the head which had good detail and elegance in comparison with the rest of him. More elegant than 1, moved well.

Open Dog

1 STARATLANTA GET A WIGGLE ON TO MARZANNE ((D) Hadfield M

Overall proportionate and racy, nothing exaggerated. Fair detail in head, angulation balanced front and hind, reasonably muscled throughout body. Covered ground well.

2 COVARNEY PACO RABANNE AT STOURFORD (D) Needs A & W

Nicely proportionate, with good muscle throughout. Head detail and muzzle good, expressive eyes and brows. Balanced front and hindquarters making for super driving across straight ground, unfortunately knocked off balanced flow by tail, not holding turns as well as might as a result.

Open Bitch

1 MAJESTYKA INDIAN SUMMER AT CLONAGEERA JW (B) RBIS Rutherford P

Lovely, well balanced, lady. Chest deep to angulation fore and hind excellent with no exaggeration to distract the eye. Plenty of head detail with characterful brows over soft affectionate eyes: long ears set well back. All presented atop strong neck flowing to top line and tail set. Good bend of stifleholding well angulated, well muscled hindquarters. On the move steady, driven and racy, clearly knows what she’s doing and thoroughly enjoyed it- neck naturally extending looking occasionally at her owner, tail wagging profusely but not upsetting her flow.

2 COVARNEY ESTEE AVEC MARZANNE JW (B) Hadfield M

Another example of a nicely matured bitch. No quite as well balanced as 1, today the head not quite so well presented upsetting the flow to topline in the stack. Head detail very pretty though, and drove well on the move. Hard to call between these 2 but 1’s natural balance and joy won it for me.

Open Dog/Bitch

1 BRIDGELLA’S FIRST EDITION WITH KONAKAKELA JW SH.CEX. OSW (D). BOB. Harris & Hoeksema P & G

Well presented example of the breed. Head held naturally high with defined occiput, muzzle square and deep. Eyes soft and friendly under good stop, with ears set back low. Long muscular neck to balancing well with head and well muscled, strong body with level topline. Hind legs for me slightly lacking in same muscle as front, but stifles well bent. I would say elegant on the move today as opposed to strongly driving, but definitely self assured and steady. Thank you for bringing him, loved going over him.

Open Dog/Bitch

1 JW HERNWOOD ACHILLES AT ETTRICK SH CH (D). BOB Group 1 Harker AJ

Prime example of the breed, at the top of his game. And he knows it. Symmetrical in conformation, strong build throughout carrying himself in proud dignified manner. Deep head with defined stop, dark intelligent eyes, clearly knows his job well. Superbly presented head with low set ears laid well back to strong neck carrying through to straight topline with deep ribs. Well boned, strong straight pasterns supporting well driven movement, free flowing with beautiful steadiness. Maintained his cool all day. Not surprised to see his show credentials. Thank you for bringing him along, enjoyed going over him and watching him move.
