EASTBOURNE & DISTRICT CANINE SOCIETY PREMIER OPEN SHOW 25.6.23

Wendy Holehan-Green Critique

I was delighted to accept the invitation from Eastbourne & District Canine Society to judge the Irish Setter, Flat Coated Retriever and Irish Red & White Setter classes at their recent premier open show. I would like to thank my stewards on the day for keeping everything organised in the ring and, of course, the exhibitors for allowing me pleasure of going over their dogs.

Retriever (Flat Coated)

P (1). 1 Bowen, Clandrift Bring Me Sunshine. Nicely moulded head with well-placed eyes, ears well set on. Good length of neck, well laid shoulders, well ribbed body. Correct bend of stifle with well let down hocks. Very happy boy with a tail that said so. Best Puppy.

Y (1). 1 Durrant, Glenturret Gypsy Tart. Feminine head with kind expression. Well balanced, good reach of neck into well placed shoulders. Correct front and rear angulation. Moved around the ring confidently. RBoB.

PG (1). 1 Wilson, Hameldowntor Pedro Ximenez. Balanced boy, typical head with a kind expression. Good reach of neck into correct shoulders. Level topline with correct tail set which he wagged from start to finish.

O (3). 1 Wilson, Hameldowntor Music of the Night (Imp). Typical feminine head with a melting expression. Dark eye with well set on ears. Good length of neck on to well angulated shoulders. Good bone. Good topline with correct tail carriage. Good angulation front and rear. Pleasure to see move around the ring. BoB, very pleased to see her Group 1. 2 Bowen, Candiliz Funk Monkey at Clandrift. A balanced, pretty bitch of adequate bone. Nicely moulded head, kind expression, ears well set on. Good reach of neck, good angulation front and rear with level topline. Straight and well set on tail. 3 Durrant, Glenturret Lucky Charm.

Irish Red and White Setter

PG (2, 1A). 1 Hawkins, Rubethan Florentine of Aislingwood. Typical head with gentle expression. Needs time to mature, moved round the ring with ease. BoB.

Irish Setter

Y (2). 1 Maple, Pollnac New Miracle. Very feminine lady took my attention on entering the ring. Good dark eyes, lovely arched neck. Well laid-back shoulders. Good topline which she kept on the move. Good rear angulation. RBoB. 2 Parsons, Quensha Thinking Out Loud At Bransett. Handsome boy, straight front, good topline, correct tail set. Moved round the ring with ease.

PG (3, 1A). 1 Parsons, Forfarian Flutter Yer Lashes. Well made, feminine girl. Dark eye, low ear set. Moderate neck leading into well laid-back shoulders. Correct topline, good angulation, with correct tail set. Happy on the move. 2 Pullen, Ixia Fennec Fox. Beautiful head, dark eye. Moderate long neck, well placed shoulders, sloping topline. Carried his tail proud. Would benefit from some ringcraft classes.

O (3, 1A). Williamson, Bluesprings Picture This JW. Very handsome boy with elegant head. Nice dark eye, low set ears. Slightly arched neck, well laid-back shoulders. Good spring of rib, correct topline. Carried his tail well as he moved with ease around the ring. BoB. 2 Richardson, Bluesprings Now I’m Here at Forestfire. Stronger head than I prefer with good shoulder placement. Well sprung ribs, gentle sloping topline. Didn’t move his best on the day.
