Crystal Palace Canine Association Open Show 23 November 2023

Pointers

Firstly, many thanks to the committee for a smoothly run show. There was a great atmosphere, in spite of the freezing conditions! I was honoured to be invited to judge, and the entry of Pointers was fabulous. I am grateful to the exhibitors for presenting their lovely dogs who were all in super condition, and it was a pleasure to work with my ring stewards.

Puppy (3, 1a)

1st Hazeltine & Razzell’s Corotine Queen Bea.

Barely 6 months old Liver & White B. Super, raw puppy, exactly as they should be at this age. Graceful neck leading to a level topline through to a good tail. Feminine head with sufficient work for one so young. Nice tight feet. Very happy on the move, but showed enough to be awarded Best Puppy

2nd Wynne-Evans’ Droveborough Frost Queen

11 months Black & White B. Nicely balanced girl. Good depth of brisket, and plenty to come. Good lay of shoulder, level topline and neat tail. Tidy feet. A little distracted on the move today.

Junior (4, 1a)

1st Brooksmith’s Millpoint Golden Pippin

13 months Orange &White B. I have watched this girl develop over the last few months, and she is maturing nicely, and I shall watch her in the future. She does not disappoint with a pretty, well-proportioned head, with lovely dark eye. She has a nicely arched neck with clean shoulders and level topline, held well on the move. She is a series of graceful curves and shows pleasing movement. Happy to award her BOB.

2nd Hazeltine & Razzell’s Corotine Prince Charming

6 months Lemon & White D. Litter brother to best puppy, another raw example with plenty of promise. Slightly more developed in the head with good stop and sufficient work for his age. Clean neck and shoulders and well-set tail. Pleased with his overall balance, and look forward to watching him mature.

Post Graduate (9, 4a)

1st Welch, Drake & Hazeltine’s Clamerkin Jubilee Surprise at Hookwood

17 months Black & White B. Feminine head with kind, dark eyes, aristocratic appearance and thin leathers. Clean outline with pleasing angles, lovely reach of neck and good spring of rib. Nicely balanced girl, who showed herself off on the move, covering plenty of ground with a lashing tail. Pushed hard for top honours. Pleased to award RBOB.

2nd Roberts’ Kananaskis Band of Gold

21 months Lemon & White D. Gave his handler a hard time today, however, he is a handsome dog, with plenty more to come. Maturing nicely. Strong, masculine head leading to a well developed neck and well laid back shoulders. Plenty of heart room, good spring of rib, and correct, oval bone. Brisket well let down for age. Sloping pasterns and tidy feet. Moved well and tail lashed happily, although his joy overflowed at times!

Open (7, 1a)

1st Perren’s Evaluna Chasing Rainbows with Hookwood JW

2yo Black & White B. Clear winner of this class, a true little showgirl! A nicely balanced girl, who shows graceful curves on the stack. Clean neck and shoulders, fabulous tailset. Well-muscled, and well let down hocks, allowing her to power around the ring.

2nd Brooksmith’s Nightgold Pipkin

4yo Liver & White B. Lovely girl, nothing overdone, a series of graceful curves. Heavily marked, rich liver coat. Fabulous front, good oval bone with sloping pasterns. Well muscled with good turn of stifle. Moved well and covered the ground nicely
