Feb 5th 2023 - The Midland Border Terrier Club Open Show

My thanks go to the committee of Midland Border Terrier Club for their invitation to judge the February Open show. I had some lovely dogs to judge & would like to thank the exhibitors for their entries. I thoroughly enjoyed my day.

1st – Brewster & Green Stowthorney Best of You. 8mth Grizzle with a good head, having depth to muzzle & moderate width of skull. Well set ears. Head is well set on a neck of moderate length. Narrow through with a level topline & well set tail. Good width of second thigh & short rear pasterns. Good coat texture, thick pelt & easily spanned. Moved well.

2nd – Heathcote Fevstone Polar Ajax at Saxheath. 6mth really good Blue & Tan coat. Decent head well set on neck. Good angulation all trough, well set & carried tail. Thick pelt & easily spanned. Moved well.

3rd – Kestle Hufftonwuff's Jimmy Choo

1st – Pickerin Alcumlow Painter Man On Hobhill. Very nice 10mth Grizzle with a lovely head. Very good depth & strength of muzzle, nice dark eye of good shape & well set neat ears. Well angulated fore & aft with a level topline held on the move. Narrow all through, chest not too deep. Thick pelt & easily spanned. Coat of good texture. Good bone & tight feet. Racy hind-quarters. Moved out well. BPD & RBPIS.

2nd – Armstrong Normbar Beretta. Another nice Grizzle with a good masculine head. 10mth old who is well angulated all through. Level topline & well carried tail. Narrow all through with a harsh coat. Thick pelt & spannable. Moved OK.

3rd - Southam Southash Smurfski Cervelo Blue.

1st – Horner Stineval Lambert JW. 17mth Grizzle with a super masculine head. Great strength of muzzle, correct bite, good eye shape, width of skull & well set neat ears. Balanced angulation all through. Stands on straight legs & neat tight feet. Level topline & well set tail. Correct depth of chest, narrow all through with ribs that reach well back. Easily spanned with a super coat of harsh texture & thick loose pelt. Racy hindquarters. Moved out well here to take the class & later in the challenge Best Dog & ultimately Reserve Best in Show.

2nd – Swallow Howthwaite Godfrey To Otterbuck. Another nice dog. 14mth Grizzle with a good head. Nice reach of neck leads into well placed shoulders. Good legs & feet. Racy hindquarters. Level topline held on the move. Good coat, easily spanned with a thick pelt. A little proud of his tail but he moved well.

1st – Sutton Pipruda Dark Rum at Beckholm JW. 18mth Grizzle with a decent head. Well angulated all through with a good harsh coat. Spannable with a thick loose pelt. Short rear pasterns & a carrot tail. Moved well.

2nd – Davies Glenorchy Rooney 2yr old Blue. Decent head. Stacked he shows good angulation, reach of neck, level topline & nice carrot tail well set. Good coat texture, thick loose pelt & easily spanned. Movement was hard to assess & he had to pay the price.

1st – Barber Alcumlow Aramis. 2yr old Blue with a good head with correct width of skull & good bite. Good reach of neck into level topline with well set & carried tail. Well angulated, stands on straight legs with neat feet. Short rear pasterns. Good coat, thick loose pelt & spannable. Moved well.

2nd – Hall Mysulan Easy Street. 2yr old Grizzle with a decent head well set on neck. Good angulation. Good coat texture with a thick loose pelt & spannable. Moved well.

1st – Brewster & Green Duke of York Fiery Lucifer To Stowthorney. Almost 14mth Blue dog with a good head having strength of muzzle, correct eye shape & neat well set ears. Nice reach of neck into level topline with well set & carried tail. Narrow all through with a harsh textured coat. Easily spanned with a thick loose pelt. Moved out well.

2nd -Price Oxcroft Loganberry. 4yr old Blue dog with a lovely head with strong muzzle & well set ears. Stands on straight legs with neat feet. Good coat with a thick loose pelt. Easily spanned. Level topline. Moved well when settled.

Strength of muzzle, correct bite, lovely eye shape, width of skull & well set neat ears. Good reach of neck leads to well placed shoulders. Well angulated all through with ribs reaching well back. Level topline held on the move, well set carrot tail. Standing on straight legs & neat feet. Shown in full coat of good texture, she has a thick loose pelt & is easily spanned. Moved out really well to take this class Best Bitch & ultimately Best In Show.

2nd – Wright Totherend Greta Garbo. 4yr old grizzle with a good head, well set on neck of correct length. Narrow all through with the correct depth of chest. Level topline & well set carrot tail. Good coat texture, thick loose pelt & easily spanned. Moved well.

2nd – Jones Otterholme Underground. 2 yr old with a decent head, correct width of skull & neat well set ears. Moderate reach of neck into well angulated fore quarters. Level topline with correct tailset. Ribs reach well back. Coat texture harsh with a thick loose pelt. Easily spanned. Moved OK.

2nd - Bradley Brewbrads Tricky Trickster. 7 yr old Blue dog. Moderate angulation all through. Correct bite. Lacking coat today, loose pelt & easily spanned. Moved well.

1st - Oakman Howthwaite Gertrude. 14mth Grizzle bitch with a decent head . Neck of moderate length. Level topline & correct tailset. Shown in good coat with a thick loose pelt & she was easily spanned. Moved OK.

2nd - Chaplin Queen Charlotte. 5yr old Grizzle who was carrying a lot of excess weight. Decent head. Level topline & carrot tail. Moved OK.

1st – Pateman This pair of Grizzles matched each other well. Both had good heads, good fronts & correct toplines. They moved out well together.

2nd – Roslin- Williams. This pair of Blues had good toplines but didn’t move as well together as the winners.
