My thanks to the committee for the invitation to judge at this well-run show. The venue is superb with ample ring size. The recently cut grass had been left in the rings, which did present some difficulty in assessing movement in this breed, as many exhibits wanted to jump over the clumps. Breeders need to watch tail length, which I felt was on the short side on most exhibits today.

Shetland Sheepdogs

Puppy (3 entries)

1st Stock Shemist Fallen Angel. Beautiful feminine tri bitch. Well proportioned head with well set ears and eye, and a correctly shaped skull. Good length of neck and well angled front and rear. Held her shape on the move and moved with balance and drive. BPIB

2nd Norris Ferngrove’s Skylark. Another beautifully feminine bitch, this time a blue merle. She was a little unsure on the table, especially as the wind picked up, but forgiven for a youngster at her first show. Lovely face with well placed ears and eye shape. Nice length of neck and good angulation front and rear. Good level topline. Once settled, moved well.

3rd Stock Shemist Summertime Blue’s

Special Yearling (1)

1st Norris Ferngrove’s Valentino JW. Nice masculine sable dog, with plentiful mane. Nice head, with well set ears and eyes. Good neck and well sprung ribs. Good angulation front and rear, and held his topline on the move.

Limit (3)

1st Gladding Startoonie Winter Rose. A lovely sable bitch, who oozed breed type. Feminine head with good ears and eyes, well proportioned skull creating the correct blunt wedge. Well angled front and rear, with well sprung ribs and depth of chest. Level topline, which she held on the move. Excelled on the move, with grace, balance and drive. BOB

2nd Rutterford Kelgrove Midsummer Blue at Stormhead. Masculine blue merle dog. Lovely head of good shape, with ears held erect and nice eye set. Good angulation front and rear. Slightly over abundant coat, which did detract from the overall image of balance, but underneath the construction was all correct. Moved well.

3rd Taylor Shelridge Toastmaster at Chelmermead

Open (2)

1st Stock Shemist Sea Dragon. Masculine blue merle dog. Nice head with good ear set and skull proportions. Nice eye set and a defined stop. Good neck, with good angulation front and rear. Moved with drive. RBOB

2nd Rutterford Kelgrove Midsummer Blue at Stormhead. As 2nd in Limit.
